Hotel threatening to sue us for bad review

Unashamedly posting in AIBU for traffic. We stayed in a truly dreadful place over the August BH weekend. I wrote to the owner afterwards expressing our displeasure and with a long list of complaints including unsecure blind pulls, a trampoline with no safety net, water features with no warning, general filth and 1980s decor (I expect more at £300/night). Additionally one of the curtain poles fell down on my head. He wrote back ignoring most of my points but stating that he was disappointed that I hadn’t said thank you to them for fixing the curtain pole so quickly Shock. I submitted a review on reevoo and Tripadvisor, neither of which have been published yet......but he has emailed threatening to sue us if we don’t take our review down (I’m assuming he has been sent a preview). We have photographs of everything except the awful smell.
I’m assuming it’s safe to just ignore and block? I’m not taking my review down.

On reading other bits and bobs, it seems that he's actually a financial adviser/planner too. Seems he's got his finger in too many pies...

Complying with the demands in the letter is not a problem for you OP. Because all the demands flow from number 1. Number 1 only applies to defamatory comments.
Your comments are true and fair comment. Therefore they are not therefore defamatory.

Mr M/ janiesmutts (assuming you are one and the same) will not risk suing you. It's worth his while threatening you in the hope that you swoon into your embroidered handkerchief at the perceived horror of his demands and threats and then delete this thread and the review etc. But there's really no reason for you to do so.

We ought to immortalise TM and the awfulness of PM's nasty (and in themselves defamatory) replies to negative reviews by nominating this for Classics.

You've had your arse handed to you on a plate. Just take on board what people are saying.
Perhaps concentrate on, you know, improving the hotel and its offerings rather than on pursuing unhappy guests in a thoroughly nasty manner.

I have never enjoyed a post so much!

Does he take responsibility for anything when replying to the reviews. I've gone through the restaurant and I'm up to 2011 on the other. I've also gone through 3 other sites with reviews and so far I see him apologizing but not apologizing and then turning everything around on the reviewer. Much like my teenage daughter does.

OP’s comments are defamatory - it just that truth is a defence to a defamation claim

I would be curious if the organisation that he is a chartered member of has a code of conduct, and if his Possibly bullying, threatening behaviour is in line with it.

Oooh with all those fake letters after his name I hope that there is a regulatory body he can be reported to. Can’t stand bullies.

I believe if one were to google the name of the person concerned and FOS (Financial Ombudsman Service) you would find a long list of complaints made. To the latter about the former.
