Trump used manipulation and race-baiting four years ago. He’s at it again. We are weary and worried but we shall persist.

wow there's a lot to read and very interesting, I hope they make an 'easy to take in at a glance' picture/diagram version for peeps who dont have time to read it all!

Heffalooomia · 27/09/2020 23:30

his businesses are vehicles for wasting (or spaffing as jorris would say) money, which he has blagged from other people

lionheart · 28/09/2020 01:40

Oh.

lionheart · 28/09/2020 01:41

The analysis should be interesting.

lionheart · 28/09/2020 01:47

Oz--> Wizard again.

'Together with related financial documents and legal filings, the records offer the most detailed look yet inside the president’s business empire. They reveal the hollowness, but also the wizardry, behind the self-made-billionaire image — honed through his star turn on “The Apprentice” — that helped propel him to the White House and that still undergirds the loyalty of many in his base.'

AcrossthePond55 · 28/09/2020 01:48

He is on tape in Sept 2016 saying that 'not paying any taxes makes me a smart guy'. So the NYT story is no surprise.

And his cult will agree with him 100%. They only wish they could get away with paying no taxes, too.

I think this tweet from Miles Taylor is spot on ..... Biden is going to have a field day at the debate.

Is it just me, or does the federal government now look like a Trump business? Struggling for direction under the impulses of an unhinged CEO, deeply in debt, high manager turnover rate, low morale, countless lawsuits over questionable practices, and sinking brand reputation.

BruceAndNosh · 28/09/2020 07:31

Draft dodger, tax dodger.
I'm surprised the Trump Organisation doesn't sponsor the LA Dodgers baseball team

BruceAndNosh · 28/09/2020 07:35

Trump's outfit for debate

Biden's campaign team is on the ball. Selling stickers " I paid more in taxes than Donald Trump "

thehill.com/homenews/campaign/518523-biden-campaign-sells-i-paid-more-income-taxes-than-trump-stickers

I am absolutely gobsmacked by this. I've probably said this more than once over the years but this to me is appalling and abhorrent and treats american citizens with such disdain

BruceAndNosh · 28/09/2020 08:10

And his cult will agree with him 100%. They only wish they could get away with paying no taxes, too
But there is a difference between a blue collar worker wanting a lower tax bill and "billionaire" paying zero tax.
There was a big furore in the UK a few years ago about well paid celebrities getting paid via personal companies to avoid tax. Your average person doesn't think this is fair

TheNorthWestPawsage · 28/09/2020 08:27

Currently I'm thinking "Well, that's exactly what we all knew they'd reveal".

The Trumpster cult won't change their minds over this but I wonder if this will discourage some potential Republican-leaning undecideds from voting at all as they will feel it's now a "Sophie's choice" for them. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.

I think the Dodgers would be insulted. Grin

I'd love to hear his answer to: how is he so rich and successful but pays so little in tax? Is he in fact not rich, or is he a crook?

I doubt the tax return report will make any impact at all with his base – except that him whining that he's being picked on will energise them against the meanies being mean to their boy. They already say, "I wish the media would stop being so nasty about him."

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 28/09/2020 10:39

I'm just hoping the NYT report has the same effect on the electorate as the Comey letter about Hillary's emails did at the last election. Also, is anyone here in the least bit surprised or disbelieving about this?

Roussette · 28/09/2020 10:53

My DD is incensed about this.

I didn't know that showing your tax returns came about because of Nixon in 1970 when he had paid only $792 on $200K
Everyone was outraged apparently

Anyway 10x that as its with 50 years inflation, magnitudes higher income for Trump and he still paid EVEN LESS

He earned $427M from Apprentice. His massive loans become due in 2021/22. He's in deep doo doos.

My DD has linked some stuff to me from the NYT article that is absolutely outrageous.
I am Shock

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 28/09/2020 11:10

Meanwhile, Brad Parscale does seem to have been having some sort of breakdown, possibly brought on by the repeated attacks by Trump is my guess:

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/sep/28/former-trump-campaign-manager-brad-parscale-hospitalised-after-threats-to-harm-himself

Heffalooomia · 28/09/2020 11:19

Or is Brad parscale laying the groundwork for his defence because he knows the shit is about to hit the fan and he will be exposed? 🤔

Roussette · 28/09/2020 11:25

And my DD said... she pays more in Tax and NI in one month than Trumpy paid in a year, which is why she is incensed lol, I've never known her so fired up about him

I hope ordinary Americans are too

I read about Brad Parscale. How awful. To be reduced to feeling so desperate because of what's gone on, getting sacked as Campaign Manager etc. Poor bloke.

pinkbalconyrailing · 28/09/2020 11:58

$ 70.000 tax deductions
for his hair!

Heffalooomia · 28/09/2020 12:21

I'm reading that if the IRS investigation goes against him he could owe the American government $100 million, what delicious feast this new story is 😍

Roussette · 28/09/2020 12:35

$ 70.000 tax deductions for his hair!

He was done!
