Trump used manipulation and race-baiting four years ago. He’s at it again. We are weary and worried but we shall persist.

I've just seen the news.
Pancreatic cancer is a proper bastard.

boatyardblues · 19/09/2020 00:51

Thank you all for still soldiering on and bearing witness. I had an extended Trump break for my own well-being. DH is on a short break from US election coverage because it was getting him down too.

TheClaws · 19/09/2020 02:19

This sounds fun - and quite literally 'radical indoctrination'.

Aaron Rupar @atrupar 15min

"We will stop the radical indoctrination of our students, and restore patriotic education to our schools. We will teach our children to love our country" -- maybe he could call it the Trump Youth?

Apparently, still speaking at his superspreader rally, Trump is as yet unaware of Ruth Bader Ginsberg's passing, although the crowd are screaming it at him. Such taunts are normal though so he's ignoring it.

TheClaws · 19/09/2020 02:23

I'm heartened to hear of some Republicans stating they will not vote for a RBG's replacement before the election.

Vale to Ruth Bader Ginsberg. What a remarkable person.

HoldMyLobster · 19/09/2020 03:19

And suddenly the election is no longer about Trump.

That mailer I got from Susan Collins today suddenly seems so outdated too.

McConnell is a fucking two-faced hypocritical cunt.

That is all.

Roussette · 19/09/2020 06:09

I've just woken to this news. A titan of a woman passed away.

Roussette · 19/09/2020 06:10

That is a youtube trailer of an excellent Netflix documentary about Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

Roussette · 19/09/2020 06:11

boatyardblues We all need breaks from this shitshow... and the next couple of months are going to be very rocky that's for sure.

Roussette · 19/09/2020 06:14

Can they really ram something through in such a short time?

46 days....

I came here to share the news of Trump's Nobel prize.
The IgNobel Prize.

"MEDICAL EDUCATION PRIZE [BRAZIL, UK, INDIA, MEXICO, BELARUS, USA, TURKEY, RUSSIA, TURKMENISTAN]
Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil, Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom, Narendra Modi of India, Andrés Manuel López Obrador of Mexico, Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, Donald Trump of the USA, Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey, Vladimir Putin of Russia, and Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow of Turkmenistan, for using the Covid-19 viral pandemic to teach the world that politicians can have a more immediate effect on life and death than scientists and doctors can.
REFERENCE: Numerous news reports.
NOTE: This is the second Ig Nobel Prize awarded to Alexander Lukashenko. In the year 2013, the Ig Nobel Peace Prize was awarded jointly to Alexander Lukashenko, for making it illegal to applaud in public, AND to the Belarus State Police, for arresting a one-armed man for applauding."

www.improbable.com/ig-about/winners/

But very sad for RBG. Sad RIP

And for the consequences for the USA.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 19/09/2020 08:57

Don't know if this is true but DH said he read that Senators Susan Collins, Chuck Grassley, Lisa Murkowski and Mitt Romney have all committed to not voting on a new SCOTUS Justice until after 20 January 2021

That leaves 49 Republican Senators, or less,
so no majority for that disingenuous, disgusting dirtbag Moscow Mitch.

RBG was a giant compared to those tiny, weak men.

Never a truer word said

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/09/2020 10:13

I hope that Susan Collins will not have a vote on the matter, because her word is not worth the air it is breathed on. She has been consistent in lying about her voting intentions for some time time now.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 19/09/2020 10:44

Susan Collins is potentially toast in November. I agree Asking SC's "word" is usually a "concerned" lie.

Hello all, long time no post!

Just popped by to say how sad I am to hear about the death of Ruth Bader Ginsberg. She was an absolute giant, despite her tiny frame.

I second watching the “RBG” documentary on Netflix, it’s fascinating.

To steal a couple of facts from Twitter:

In 1956 she was one of just 9 women admitted to Harvard Law School, from an intake of 500.

That same year the Dean of the school invited the female students to dinner and asked them why they were taking places away from men

She transferred to Columbia Law School (after her husband got a job in the area) and graduated #1 in her class. Despite this she could not get a job and was turned down for the role of a Supreme Court clerk despite being the most qualified person to apply.

She graduated #1 despite having a small child and a sick husband. Apparently she worked 20 hour days studying and caring for her child/husband.

@AcrossthePond55

Oh no no no no!!!! Ruth Bader Ginsburg has died.

Rest in Peace, Good Lady. We'll carry on the fight.

This.

Raising a glass here to an amazing woman.

Howdy CaveMum. Brew

Erm, so I guess CaveBoy is not only walking and talking but you're thinking about schools now... Shock

Roussette · 19/09/2020 11:21

@CaveMum
Great to see you!

I dread to think how old CaveBaby is now, he's probably at Uni by now, given the endless nightmare of Trump which seems like forever!

lionheart · 19/09/2020 12:38

Hello CaveMum. Hope CaveBaby is good and fine. Smile

For those wondering if the Repugs will be able to force through a SCOTUS nominee, this explains why the answer is most likely yes.
