Hi everyone. I'm starting driving lessons in a few weeks and am wondering how long it took for you all to pass? My dad has very kindly offered to pay for the first 26 hours worth of lessons (2 hours, once a week) and then in will be funding them myself. So hoping not too long! :) Thank you

I reckon I had about 70 lessons before my instructor got desperate & thought he'd better put me in for the test. Miraculously I passed. I'm sure you'll do a more stylish job - good luck.

MoistMolly · 25/08/2020 19:35

I had 6 lessons

NancyJoan · 25/08/2020 19:35

About 40 hours, and I was 30. I did 2x 2 hour lessons per week, then passed.

Winterwoollies · 25/08/2020 19:36

I had five lessons and passed first time. This is not a boast particularly, I just took to it.

AgainstAllOdds1 · 25/08/2020 19:38

17 years old and 5 months, first lesson on my birthday. 1 x 1hr weekly lessons but also had use of parents car in between times which was invaluable.

FuzzyPuffling · 25/08/2020 19:40

14 in four months. Passed my test first time and then went back to geography lesson in school.

NeverForgetYourDreams · 25/08/2020 19:43

12

randomchap · 25/08/2020 19:45

24 hours of paid lessons, and about the same time practicing with mates.

Soozikinzii · 25/08/2020 19:47

I can recommend Covered on Demand for when you're up to practising with a relative . You're just covered on the days you drive - it's very easy to book the day you want can do it from your phone. I set this up for my son in the lockdown to keep his driving ticking over because he couldn't have lessons. It's great !

I thought I was doing well learning to drive in 10 hours, then my sister learnt to fly and she was landing and taking off after 8 hours of lessons...

YerAWizardHarry · 25/08/2020 20:49

Over 60hrs

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 25/08/2020 20:53

About 12, passed 3or 4 months after my 17th but I had been driving old land rovers on private land/roads since I was about 10 Grin

Pebblexox · 25/08/2020 20:58

I think it's dependent on your situation. I've had about 5 hours of driving lessons (over 8 years) and could probably pass my test if I chose to do it. However I drive in my own car regularly, with dh. That's why I haven't bothered doing my test because right now I don't need to be able to drive alone or on the motorway.

CorianderLord · 25/08/2020 20:59

I had one a week for 9 months, failed twice, stopped. Picked it up with 6 lessons with a new teacher a year later and passed.

So about 40?

Bagelsandbrie · 25/08/2020 21:01

About 60-70 hours and a weeks intensive course. Blush And then it took me 4 goes to pass. I was 32 when I learnt and I was so anxious. It took me a very long time to get the hang of it.

But... I’ve been driving 11 years now and touch wood (!) never had any issues at all. I drive very carefully. I still can’t parallel park though or reverse park... but who needs to? I just drive round until I find a space I can fit into.

Feminist10101 · 25/08/2020 21:02

Booked a block of 10 lessons. Test booked after 8. No other practice. Passed first time within 2 months of turning 17.

Feminist10101 · 25/08/2020 21:04

Crikey. I had 2 hours in a car park with my dad when I got my first car. I now can’t park forwards but can park in any space (reverse/parallel) as long as it’s a foot or so bigger than the car.

JaceLancs · 25/08/2020 21:11

It’s a long time ago - think it was about 15 but I did practice a lot with my DP at the time - think every day!
I did same with my DC we all passed first time quite quickly

badg3r · 25/08/2020 21:15

I had ten and drove a lot with DP, passed first time. This was abroad though, not sure that's allowed these days in the uk!!

StrawberrySquash · 25/08/2020 21:18

I think about 50 at 17.

StrawberrySquash · 25/08/2020 21:19

And also did practice with my dad in the family car.

MinnieJackson · 25/08/2020 21:21

Too many. Failed 3 times and couldn't afford to carry on. I'm pretty shit tbh Grin

Elle1234 · 25/08/2020 21:24

25-30 hours. Passed my test first time, was also driving my own car on L plates for about 3-4 months before taking my test which helped loads with my confidence x

littlealexhorne · 25/08/2020 23:49

@MeadowHay Thanks for reminding me that I needed to get my theory booked in!

solvendie · 25/08/2020 23:50

10 hours but I was seventeen years old and very trainable. Also 1992. If it was now - I dread to think!!
