To ask for help choosing a Shark

I’ve decided to treat myself to a new, bagless vacuum cleaner and have narrowed it down to 2 Sharks. I can’t decide between them and would be interested to hear from anyone who has them.

I have a one bed flat which is carpeted apart from kitchen and bathroom which have vinyl flooring. I have two short haired, but constantly casting, cats. It would be handy to be able to use the vacuum to do the close stairs - using an extension cable for power - but not essential.

The two I’m looking at are the Shark Lift-Away Upright with True Pet NV601UKT

Or the Shark Duo Clean Corded Stick Vacuum with Flexology HV390UK which offers a Pet Upgrade for £15 although I can’t work out what that actually is.

I have the cordless one of your 2nd one and also have 2 constantly casting cats! Its excellent. Would highly recommend. It comes with plenty of good tools and when it seperates to handheld its nice and light so would be perfect for stairs. Its really easy to empty etc.

i have the shark liftaway anti hair wrap pet and its not lived up to the hype at all. It has poor suction compared to previous dysons. Loses suction further unless im emptying it after pretty much every room. Maybe ive just been unlucky as some people rave about theirs and it got good which reviews, but honestly, for the money, i think its shit

We have the nv601 model (1st one you linked to) , we have 2 kids and 2 cats, it is by far the best vacuum we've ever had. We had Dyson pet ones previously and thought they picked up well, ha - the Shark is so much better. Shark is lighter and a little smaller so easy to handle and fit in our storage area better as well. Love the lift away and the ease of getting the short wand out to suck up stubborn cat litter and vacuum the hair off the curtains. Definitely recommend Smile

I've just ordered the NZ801UK direct from shark and bought the anti wrap pet power brush as an extra tool. The shark is to replace both a Miele cat and dog model and a cordless dyson which doesn't have enough charge.

@heartsonacake

Sorry to jump on the thread but I am also looking for a Shark and am stuck between the NV601 (like the OP) and the NV801 - does anyone know which one is better and why?

The NV801 is more expensive but I gather it’s older?

I saw reviews for the NV801 but only place I’ve seen it for sale is on EBay. Out of stock everywhere else, including the Shark website. I think they’ve stopped making it. The NV700UK is probably the closest as it’s got the duo clean and the lift away.

Another vote for Miele

Ahh okay thanks OP Smile

I have a Shark liftaway, although not for pets, as I don't have any. Although I do love it (it has headlights!), it's not brilliant on hard floors. Oh, plus it overbalances all the time, which is really annoying. However, am really happy with it - prior to it I was using an old Kirby (proper old-school) which was really effective, but not very adaptable. This performs better than the Kirby, and easily adapts to different floors. And I really like the liftaway bit - very good for stairs.

I have this one, it's the single best thing I've ever bought. Cordless is a massive bonus but does whack the price up somewhat.

Seeingadistance · 17/08/2020 14:43

I’ve gone for the first one I linked to - the Lift Away with True Pet. Very excited now! Grin

Lots of love here for Miele, but I was really looking for an upright and they don’t do those. They do score very highly on the Which reviews so I can see why they’re popular.

Thanks for all your comments, and apologies again to those who were looking for shark sharks!

I have the anti hair wrap, cordless stick one and it's the best thing I've bought in ages. You can pay by instalments on the website, no credit check or APR.

I thought this post was going to be about sponsoring an endangered species Grin

I'm afraid my first thought was, "Mummy Shark, surely? [doo doo doo doo doo]" Grin

Ahh okay thanks OP Smile
If it helps, Which have tested both and gave NV601UK 77% and a Best Buy sticker and the NV801 76%. Not much in it.

I have the shark duo, it just isnt powerful enough for a proper clean. It is great for doing the staurs and cleaning up spillages but I still yse my old dyson for a full clean.
We are getting a dog soon and I have been looking at the corded shark lift away a poster above linked to.

Foobydoo · 17/08/2020 15:08

Sorry I just saw you are looking at corded models, my duo is cordless hence the lack in power.
All the corded ones seem to have good reviews.

crumpet · 17/08/2020 15:12

I have a shark duo lift away and it has been excellent so far. Heavy though.

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 17/08/2020 19:51

@PamDemic

I bought a shark and it was so crap I then bought a Miele. I'd really advise you against buying a shark (ignore all the love for them on here - they are so so rubbish ).
Grin so only your negative experience counts? Peak MN this like.
LadyCatStark · 17/08/2020 19:54

I read the title as help me choose a Stark and I was going to say Arya no question.

I can recommend a Shark though but I don’t know what model we have 🙈

I bought a cordless Shark 2 weeks ago and LOVE it. Never been excited about hoovering before but it’s so good. Enjoy yours!

IsolaPribby · 17/08/2020 20:02

I have a Lift Away, and it cleans well, but it's very heavy and the lift away thing is bloody annoying. It doesn't have wheels and you have to carry it around else it drags. I wouldn't recommend it.

Miele have brought out the Triflex which is their first upright cordless earlier this year I think. I've had my Miele 10 years and it's still works just as well as when we first had it but it can be a bit cumbersome. I had a look at the Triflex as I want a vacuum for quick cleans, especially downstairs and loved all the features but the price tag for the one I wanted made me rethink it (for now).
