To ask for help choosing a Shark

I’ve decided to treat myself to a new, bagless vacuum cleaner and have narrowed it down to 2 Sharks. I can’t decide between them and would be interested to hear from anyone who has them.

I have a one bed flat which is carpeted apart from kitchen and bathroom which have vinyl flooring. I have two short haired, but constantly casting, cats. It would be handy to be able to use the vacuum to do the close stairs - using an extension cable for power - but not essential.

The two I’m looking at are the Shark Lift-Away Upright with True Pet NV601UKT

Or the Shark Duo Clean Corded Stick Vacuum with Flexology HV390UK which offers a Pet Upgrade for £15 although I can’t work out what that actually is.

We got this one:
Shark Anti Hair Wrap Cordless Stick Vacuum Cleaner with Flexology, Pet Model [Twin Battery] IZ251UKT

It's freaking amazing.

Sadly, I can’t afford a cordless model.

My DM has a cordless stick Dyson which she loves and it is easy to use. I’m not sure if it’s the cordless aspect or the stick aspect which makes the difference if you see what I mean.

Is it easy to use the flexi under the furniture aspect?

Following I’m looking at Sharks too

Feelingconfused2020 · 17/08/2020 00:27

Yabu I thought I was going to be looking at pictures of sharks and choosing the one that was most deadly (too much time spent with a nine year old who lives natural history I think)

steff13 · 17/08/2020 00:31

I have this one. It's the best vacuum I've ever owned.

Bought one then dumped it a month later. It was supposed to deal with pet hair.
It didn’t.
Now use a Miele.

I have had this one for about 2 years now and it is still the best vacuum cleaner I have ever used! We have a mixture of hard and carpeted floorings as well as 2 cats and a dog and it keeps the place looking spotless. The lift away is great for the stairs and it's the 1st time I can honestly say I use all the attachments!

Sorry to disappoint. Nothing to offer on the shark shark front either. When mine was that age he was into weather systems and I was regularly asked to rank cyclones, hurricanes and tornadoes in order of ... something.

This is not as fun as I'd hoped. I thought you were adopting a shark from some charity. Was looking forward to comparing Snappy, Bitey and Jaws Grin

IfIHadAHeart · 17/08/2020 01:43

Another vote for Miele, sorry!

VeryLittleOwl · 17/08/2020 07:48

We have this one (bought when it was on offer at £199): sharkclean.co.uk/product/shark-anti-hair-wrap-corded-stick-vacuum-cleaner-pet-model-hz400ukt/ and the amount of hair it got off the carpet compared with the Miele Cat & Dog was quite stunning. The anti-hair wrap technology works as well, had it since Christmas and it's still clean despite one long-haired human and two dogs in the house.

HidingFromDD · 17/08/2020 08:01

I've got the anti-hair wrap stick corded one, although certainly didn't pay £299 for it (think I got it for £199). I really like it, very flexible so easy to get around and under stuff, and it's easy to take the 'pod' off to use as a handheld. Anti-hair wrap works up to a point. With 3 long haired women in the house, we shed a lot of hair so I do need to clear it periodically but it's no where near as bad as other vacuums. Previous one was a miele cat and dog, awkward to use and couldnt cope with the hair

refriedbeanstalk · 17/08/2020 08:10

Mine is more like the second but I think you'll be happy with either. Second one fits under my sofa without doing lift away fwiw.

Be surprised if you need an extension for the stairs, the cord is insanely long.

I bought corded as didn't want to rely on a battery so I could do whole house at once.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 17/08/2020 08:12

We've got the first one on your list and it's brilliant. The amount of cat hair it picks up is amazing. The lift away function is great for stairs. I used to have to balance a heavy Dyson on the stairs in front of me and it was really awkward (my sister's friend's mum fell backwards down stairs while vacuuming them and died so I don't like doing them anyway and the heavy Dyson just made that worse).

I can't think of a single downside to it.

heartsonacake · 17/08/2020 08:14

Sorry to jump on the thread but I am also looking for a Shark and am stuck between the NV601 (like the OP) and the NV801 - does anyone know which one is better and why?

The NV801 is more expensive but I gather it’s older?

cheezy · 17/08/2020 08:14

Watching. Am torn between a shark and a Miele but the shark is winning for its hair wrap. My long hair is a bugger for my Henry.

thisstooshallpass · 17/08/2020 08:15

The lift away is bulky and awkward. The lift away bit doesn't stay stood up, when vacuuming the stairs I need two hands on the wand, so the lift away drum just flails about and bangs against my legs. So annoying.

Wish I'd bought a cordless.

Jubaju · 17/08/2020 08:21

Cleaning the cylinder is gross, I feel I’m constantly emptying and cleaning the bloody shark. #regrets

THATbasicrebelBITCH · 17/08/2020 08:24

I have a lift away. Its great. It makes me feel like a ghost buster. 👻

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 17/08/2020 08:29

I have a lift away too and it has made the stairs a breeeeze! It’s disgusting the amount of hair and general filth it picks up!

KarlKennedysDurianFruit · 17/08/2020 08:33

If you can wait a little while wait until the black Friday/cyber Monday sales, I got out cordless shark (with pet head) last year for the price of a corded one. It makes it so much easier without a wire. The anti hair wrap had also been amazing, I shes more than the cat

luanmapo · 17/08/2020 08:38

I’ve got the first you put a link to and find it absolutely fantastic.
We have 4 children and 2 wired hair dogs which shed fur like nobodies business.
This hoover is the absolute business for clearing away everything.
I do wash the filters every month though to keep it consistent with what it picks up.
The only negative is the lead. But that’s my issue not the Hoover!!
I want a cordless one now too as find it a pain with the lead.
I used to have a Dyson cordless and that packed up after 2 years, totally rubbish and would never get another Dyson ever again.
Shark all the way.
That price is damn fantastic too!!! I paid full price a while ago.

PrayingandHoping · 17/08/2020 09:01

I have the cordless stick with pet attachment. It's excellent and outperforms the Miele I had before it by a mile! What it got out the carpets the Miele has been missing was shocking!

CircleofWillis · 17/08/2020 09:14

Here's another disappointed person. I was going to suggest choosing the shark with the most interesting egg sack.

(I also thought you might be a thigh)

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 17/08/2020 09:20

The first one 100%. We had the first one and it was brilliant (although as a pp has said it is quite heavy). The puppy chewed it beyond repair though so we got the second one you've posted. I HATE it! I can't do much without it filling up or getting blocked somewhere. And whenever I lift it to go up a step or over a baby gate it drops "crumbs" everywhere!
