AIBU to let them camp on an island overnight?

(Inspired by another thread)

We are on holiday in the Lake District. Lovely cottage. DH is working away. DC's have seen a lovely island and want to go camping there for a few nights. Light a campfire, cook for themselves. They'll get there by sailing boat. Youngest is 6 and oldest is 14.

Would you let them go?

With an adult yes.
Without of course not.

Oly4 · 01/08/2020 18:03

14 yes, six year old no way

VintageDressmaker · 01/08/2020 18:03

Agree with feral

fuckinghellapeacock · 01/08/2020 18:03

No, of course not. A 14yo cannot be held responsible for such young children, especially near water. Is this a joke thread based on swallows and Amazon's?

womanaf · 01/08/2020 18:03

You should ask your husband, see what he says.

No. The 6yo would probably freak in the middle of the night. Then you’ve got frightened kids in a boat in the dark trying to get back to you.

Swallows and Amazons?

AldiAisleofCrap · 01/08/2020 18:04

Are you Arthur Ransome?

Deadposhtory · 01/08/2020 18:04

No way, well not the youngest

MirandaWest · 01/08/2020 18:04

Swallows and Amazons?

Kittytheteapot · 01/08/2020 18:04

Depends whether they are duffers or not. Have you consulted your husband for his views?

PatchworkElmer · 01/08/2020 18:04

Haha, I used to love these books!

ineedaholidaynow · 01/08/2020 18:05

Are they duffers?

Feralkidsatthecampsite · 01/08/2020 18:05

Was there one called Titty?

Dellow · 01/08/2020 18:05

Not alone. Too much can go wrong & 6 is too young to have a 14 yr old responsible for them for such an extended time & with fire & water etc.

DappledThings · 01/08/2020 18:05

Better drowned than duffers. If not duffers won't drown

Albern · 01/08/2020 18:05

Don't forget the potted meat and fruit cake!!

Boredbumhead · 01/08/2020 18:05

Haha swallows and Amazons right?

Dragonsanddinosaurs · 01/08/2020 18:06

Sounds like the start of a Famous Five book!

Diverseduvet · 01/08/2020 18:06

No. You don't know who it belongs to are what the locals are like. You can't go round camping and lighting fires where you like unfortunately. There may also be hidden dangers that you won't know about until you get there. Nice fantasy.

PablosHoney · 01/08/2020 18:06

Sounds like good fun, with an adult. You couldn’t seriously sleep with a 6 year old on an island without you could you 😂😂 I’ve been called a lax parent for not minding if my ten year wanted to run down our road alone but this!! This can’t be real.

PablosHoney · 01/08/2020 18:06

They might be cannibals ☺️

DappledThings · 01/08/2020 18:06

Did anyone see the stage show a few years ago with music by Neil Hannon? It was wonderful.

elephantoverthehill · 01/08/2020 18:07

Better drowned than duffers.

Write to your husband.
