the charmingly named Neck Gaitors? They have been my all-purpose solution to the Great Mask Dilemma of 2020. They're washable, lightweight, stylish, useful, versatile, you can wear them as a scarf and pull them up as needed, or as a hairband or even a bracelet if it's too constricting to keep it around your neck. They're cheap to order from Amazon by the half dozen--they have seriously helped me keep my sanity.

Thank you OP, I've just bought some of these to alternate with wearing the face masks I already have. Will be great to put in the car, different bags etc to make sure I've always got one to hand.

Considering that I'm dead against mandated masks, I almost like this idea. But I do totally agree with @anon5000 that Boris's main reason for throwing mandatory masks at us was to look as if he's got it under control; notice that he hasn't bothered to explain why he u-turned from "masks are useless". Performance politics. I've thought of buying a really long scarf which can be wrapped round my whole head (so now you know how to spot me), leaving just the eyes, because I'm sure the politicians are not too keen on us doing that: they want us identifiable on CCTV.

Why the vitriol about using something other than a mask, to COVER THE FACE? When we’ve all been told to wear a FACE COVERING?! I personally found it hard to breathe in my mask when I wore it the other day. So I’m searching out alternatives that are more breathable. And why the fuck shouldn’t I do so? It has nothing to do with ego! I don’t give a shit what I look like. I just want to be able to breathe.

When I forgot my mask the other day I used my Seasalt Handyband.

I've just ordered a couple of these. I think they've got a 2 for 20 offer atm. I'll probably keep one in my car in case I need to go into a shop to buy petrol. And need for our holiday as I'm sure kids will want to visit a couple of shops. Otherwise I'm just avoiding anywhere I need to wear a mask (except work obviously!)

I have a question. If face coverings don't protect the wearer from other people's virus laden droplets, how do they prevent ones own virus laden droplets from escaping through them and into the big wide world?

I think it's supposed to be like wearing a hanky over your face just in case you sneeze? Hey presto, caught virus!

I have a disgusting little cherub of a child who sneezes constantly on any handheld screen, so I'm wondering whether I should make it compulsory indoors too.

What, like be forced to stay indoors for ages, not be allowed to see friends and family for months, and watch their businesses that they've worked for years to build up die in front of them, and be denied treatment that they'd waited months for already, and see their kids lose months of education, and hear of friends committing suicide, and not be allowed to attend funerals of loved ones, and hear of friends dying due from diseases we have treatments from, and being made redundant, and, and, and.......

I don't know, I would find it harder to get it off without touching the front of it, and it would go right up over your eyes to get it on and off, which I don't fancy the thought of.
