(LIGHT HEARTED)

Just that really.

I think my favourite was fairly recently - CV related and one of the first responses to was “You dh is literally trying to kill you” (along the lines of not wearing a mask in the shops).

@Chicchicchicchiclana

I too loved the mad as a box of frogs thread. I think the op was amillionyears?
Yes it was amillionyears. I think she namechanged or left MN. Either that or she had achieved a truly spectacular wind-up and retired in the knowledge that nothing else could ever come close.

As a more general point, I do enjoy the bizarre invented scenarios on non-driver and door answering threads (which are always pretty barmy in general). A poster will say Is don’t drive, but I live in London two minutes away from the Tube and several bus routes, so would never use a car; plus parking it would be impossible’. Someone will inevitably respond ‘Well that’s all very well in London, but how would you manage if you lived in a remote Scottish village that only gets three buses a year?’ Well presumably no one is going to force a Londoner to move there at gunpoint, so they either just won’t move there, or, if they do suddenly feel the urge to live in a mountain hut, they might take the fact that they don’t drive into consideration and change their mind about learning, now that it will actually be useful.

The other one is the endless list of very urgent calls at the door you could miss if you don’t answer. ‘Someone could be in terrible danger! They could be telling you your house is on fire! It could be the police to warn you a serial killer with an irrational hatred of women who look just like you has escaped!!!’ Do none of these people in severe danger ever try next door when they don’t get an answer? Do the people warning you of fire shrug their shoulders and walk off when you don’t answer, rather than banging harder on the door and yelling ‘Fire!! FIIIIIRE!!!!!’? Do police never think to shout ‘It’s the police!’ through the letterbox? And one question no one ever seems to be able to answer - what do these people desperate for help or rushing to warn you of impending doom do if you’re not answering because you’re out?

There have always been lots of people spoiling for fights on AIBU but it is absolutely ridiculous lately. Someone landed on a light-hearted thread about how to hold cutlery to declare that half of the posters were JUDGEY ABLEIST CUNTS.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/07/2020 15:38

@isabellerossignol there are few similar posters...

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/07/2020 15:38

There are certainly lots of people on here who earn a great deal more than I do.

There are certainly lots of people on here who CLAIM they earn a great deal more than you do. 😉

Norabird · 01/07/2020 15:45

The ones (and there have been several over the years) where people post about a sick/injured person unsure if they should go to A&E and multiple people tell them they would be wasting the Dr's time if they did that, only for it to transpire the person had a serious illness/broken bone. Like they can diagnose over MN how serious something is! Even Drs need X-ray machines...

There was one a few years ago where a poster was soaking through a pad every hour with incredibly heavy vaginal bleeding. It turned out that she had a major haemorrhage and the advice of MNers to seek medical attention literally saved her life as she would have bled to death overnight otherwise. She posted an update to this effect and to thank the people who had taken the time to post, and there were still posts from people who had only read page 1 telling her to stop fussing...
Soubriquet · 01/07/2020 15:54

You get it the other way with hospital threads

“My newborn has been asleep for 8 hours and won’t wake even when I give them a little shake. They do feel a bit warm too. Should I take them to A&E or are they just tired? I don’t want to bother them if I don’t have to”

“Ffs. Don’t take them to the hospital call 999!”

“Oh, but they are only sleeping. Surely an ambulance isn’t needed for a sleeping baby”

True. We never really know whether anyone is telling the truth about anything do we? I'm perhaps naive and tend to assume people are truthful. But there are lots of people asking about schools that I couldn't even contemplate the fees for, so I've always assumed that they are much higher earners than me,
BelindaBl1nked · 01/07/2020 15:59

My personal favourite was recently. I advised on a dog thread that getting a dog from a rescue abroad could be fraught with issues and to really read up about it as it maybe was a good idea for a first dog

I was called a racist by someone 😂

Nonononon · 01/07/2020 16:00

All MN users should read this thread so they think twice before being such plebs.

I've read loads that makes me go Hmm but can't think of them off the top of my head. The one that sticks to mind was one of my own years back when I asked "should I give infant dd some water (in a bottle) to help with suspected constipation?" My mum had suggested it but I was going wild with anxiety and wanted second opinions.
I was told I was cruel for starving a hungry baby. Wtf.. I wasn't starving her, she wasn't hungry she was constipated and I wanted to know if it'd work/be ok, I still think about it years later.. 🤣

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/07/2020 16:03

@BelindaBl1nked do you have issues with foreign dogs? Bloody dogs coming in here stealing cuddles from British dogs? Eh? Shame on you😁

Only joking of course. You are right. My parents adopted from abroad (not in the UK) and it is more difficult mainly because support is not near.

JaneJeffer · 01/07/2020 16:10

I replied to someone asking if they should be expected to put a wash on if they had flu by saying if they were able to post here they should be able to put some clothes in the machine and switch it on. Another poster asked if I thought Frida Kahlo should have got out of bed to do her washing Confused

IceniSky · 01/07/2020 16:10

There was a food one and a poster was saying how bad peas or sweetcorn were for you, akin to junk food.

IAintentDead · 01/07/2020 16:33

The one where she was feeling strange sensations in her stomach, 300 posts in, she has confirmed that she is at least 5 months pregnant.
Someone still comes on, the OP and pronounces that it is 'definitely wind as she has it often'.

Pleasebeaflesbite · 01/07/2020 16:34

There’s a real time thread re teenage pocket money which is very entertaining. Complete outrage at the giving of 20 quid a week pocket money

ReplacementPlasticUterus · 01/07/2020 16:35

I've just been on a thread where a poster likes to take photos of beautiful front doors and is asking if it's weird to do so.

Someone replied "I think your project is a bit shit."

I mean, if it's not your cup of tea, fine, but to go to the trouble of not actually answering the question asked AND be spectacularly rude instead just baffles me.

Tbf I am bit Shock at it too, but I left my original country at 19 so... I have different standards, I guess

@SchrodingersImmigrant the more I’m reading the more I’m Shock

darkcaramel · 01/07/2020 16:43

this one by Pauline somebody. Still makes me laugh.

Soubriquet · 01/07/2020 16:48

Wow...she really ramped it up to 13 didn’t she?

BubblyBarbara · 01/07/2020 16:52

The one where the lady had been having sex for a while but decided just seconds before her partner had climaxed that she wanted to cease. He climaxed before disengaging but after one person suggested this was "the r word" the whole thread went barmy and I think she was actually goaded into leaving him over it. I felt it made a mockery and was very OTT.

WhereILiveIsWhereIStay · 01/07/2020 16:53

Not OTT but a brilliant example of the many MN dementors.

A few years back someone posted about being nostalgic for their carefree Uni days and gave examples of what fun she had and asked people what made them feel nostalgic for Uni?

Literally the first answer was someone saying they weren't at all nostalgic as they'd been at Leeds Uni when the Yorkshire Ripper was on the loose and it was a terrifying time.

Bet they're fun at parties.

Bluebird3456 · 01/07/2020 16:53

Oh the vegan vs meat eater ones always end up crazy. There was one that started off pretty normal (albeit goady) but then ended with someone calling all the meat eaters 'bloodmouths'.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 01/07/2020 16:57

I remember the Yorkshire ripper one😂

@Pleasebeaflesbite the whole thread is Shock 😂
