Ah, Sinclair TV.

I wondered when we'd be hearing more of them – after their big buy-up of local stations in order to broadcast centrally prepared pro-Trump scripts.

www.vox.com/2018/4/3/17180020/sinclair-broadcast-group-conservative-trump-david-smith-local-news-tv-affiliate

Guess now that answers my question.

lionheart · 25/07/2020 21:53

They have backed down:

Sinclair Broadcast Group

We hear your feedback regarding a segment on this week's "America This Week." At no juncture are we aligning with or endorsing the viewpoints of Dr. Mikovitz or Mr. Klayman or endorsing the "Plandemic" documentary. Full stop.

PerkingFaintly · 25/07/2020 22:05

Backed down in the sense of actually not propagating the conspiracy theories?

Or backed down in the sense of "Some people say . I don't know. Maybe it's not true. But some people say."

lionheart · 25/07/2020 22:09

They say they won't broadcast it...

PerkingFaintly · 25/07/2020 22:23

Wow. I'm actually impressed that they still draw a line at broadcasting known lies. Given where we're at with the liar in chief.

Though I imagine Sinclair's biggest sticking point is that Fauci could sue the nutcases right back for libel (the conspiracy theorists announced they were planning to sue Fauci), and Fauci would win big-time.

lionheart · 25/07/2020 22:36

Yes, the lawsuits.

Classy as usual.

Reagan Foundation to Trump, RNC: Quit raising money off Ronald Reagan’s legacy
www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/07/25/reagan-foundation-trump-rnc-quit-raising-money-off-ronald-reagans-legacy/

The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute, which runs the 40th president’s library near Los Angeles, has demanded that President Trump and the Republican National Committee (RNC) quit raising campaign money by using Ronald Reagan’s name and likeness.
“It was simply handled with a phone call mid-last week to the RNC, and they agreed to stop,” Reagan Foundation chief marketing officer Melissa Giller said in an email Saturday.
What came to the foundation’s attention — and compelled officials there to complain — was a fundraising email that went out July 19 with “Donald J. Trump” identified as the sender and a subject line that read: “Ronald Reagan and Yours Truly.”
The solicitation offered, for a donation of $45 or more, a “limited edition” commemorative set featuring two gold-colored coins, one each with an image of Reagan and Trump. The coins were mounted with a 1987 photograph of Reagan and Trump shaking hands in a White House receiving line — the type of fleeting contact that presidents have with thousands of people a year.

“Friend,” the fundraising email purportedly from Trump said, “I just saw our new Trump-Reagan Commemorative Coin Sets and WOW, these coins are beautiful - I took one look and immediately knew that I wanted YOU to have a set. These aren’t any ordinary coins. They symbolize an important time in our Nation. This year, in addition to being re-elected as YOUR President, it also marks the 40th anniversary of our Nation’s 40th President, Ronald Reagan. Unfortunately, we already sold out of the first batch we had in stock. But I liked these coins so much that I asked my team to rush order another batch for my TOP SUPPORTERS ONLY.”
It cautioned: “I’ve authorized a very limited production of these iconic coins, which is why I’m ONLY offering them to our top supporters, like YOU. This offer is NOT available to the general public, so please, do NOT share this email with anyone.”
Proceeds from the coin sales went to the Trump Make America Great Again Committee, a joint fundraising operation that benefits both the Trump campaign and the RNC.
The joint committee website, where the coins were for sale, noted: “The President only authorized the production of 5,000 sets of these iconic coins, which is why we’re ONLY offering them to our TOP supporters.”

Re the ridiculous Fauci conspiracy show, sometimes the point is not to air the show.....sometimes the point is just to say "We were going to air a show about XXX but now we're not". That's enough to get the wheels on the crazy-train turning amongst the Scrotus cult members. They'll be saying "See, the 'Dark State' MADE them not air it. They were afraid the truth would get out!!!!".

Roussette · 26/07/2020 07:43

Reagan would be turning in his grave.

At least that conspiracy programme has been pulled. Although Sinclair are saying they will postpone and rework' the segment.

Fauci has nerves of steel hanging on in there.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 26/07/2020 16:19

Yep - the next 100 days are going to be interesting with regards to how much Trump can keep up pretending guess he cares and if he manages to claim ownership of any positives to come.

FiveThirtyEight founder Nate Silver said on ABC's "This Week" that while President Trump's reelection bid is "clearly in trouble" due to his dismal coronavirus approval ratings and polling in swing states, he does not believe the president's "fate is sealed."

Why it matters: There are 100 days until the election and the warning signs are flashing bright red for Trump. Eight in 10 Americans said in an AP-NORC poll released Sunday that the country is heading in the wrong direction — more than at any other point during Trump's presidency.

The big picture: That same poll found that just 32% support Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, including only 68% of Republicans. But as Silver points out, a major breakthrough in the vaccine race or a sudden economic recovery could change the situation.

What he's saying: "We found historically that when there are lots of major news events and economic disruptions, an election becomes harder to predict," Silver said.

"So while he's clearly in trouble, I do not buy that Trump's fate is sealed. A lot could change in the next 100 days — things could get worse, still, for the president.
"But a turnaround in the COVID situation by the fall could make the election more competitive."

IIRC Biden said he would pick his VP on (around?) August 1st. and that it would be a woman. So, who do people want/favour (given they may eventually get to be President...)?

Oh yes, the bridge. I hope they rename it.

lionheart · 26/07/2020 22:24

I believe the hurricance has taken down some of Trump's border wall and other parts are already falling down.

But the WH looks as if it has several layers of fencing now.

AcrossthePond55 · 26/07/2020 22:36

Pretty amazing that ANY POTUS would feel he needs to barricade himself inside the WH for fear of US Citizens. LBJ never did, even at the heights of the Viet Nam protests, Nixon didn't during the Watergate protests. Even after OK City and 9/11 neither Clinton nor Bush barricaded himself in. In fact, no POTUS has ever felt the need to barricade himself inside the WH with the single exception of 'Your Favourite President" ™. That just shows you what a coward he is.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 26/07/2020 23:00

As Pelosi said, the Presidency is not a building, it’s an office someone holds. Biden doesn't need to be "in" the WH. Trump can be like Miss Havisham and rot away in there whilst Biden is inaugurated elsewhere.

Mrsmorton · 27/07/2020 08:01

I'm over invested in this for a number of reasons. My (quite right wing) US associates are absolutely divided on this. None of them want him to win. Half think he will
Because Biden is too old/frail etc, half of them are absolutely convinced Trump can't win.

It gives me a real feeling of unease for some reason.

TheNorthWestPawsage · 27/07/2020 08:19

Family Zoom yesterday with one of DH's DBs who lives in Arizona. They are very optimistic about Mark Kelly (Ex-astronaut and husband of Gabby Giffords) winning senate seat from Repugs. Also hopeful that Biden will take AZ as well. This is good news for other states with strong Dem challengers I think. But as we know - polls can be very wrong so your unease is understood Mrsmorton
