Good news.

THEY’RE BACK —The CDC’s hospital covid dashboards are back online, albeit with caveat that data was last updated on Tuesday.

From CNN
Florida
Out of ICU beds: As of yesterday, more than 50 hospitals have reached intensive care unit capacity and show zero beds available, according to according to data released by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). In Miami, hospitals have reached 95% capacity, Mayor Francis Suarez, told reporters Thursday

And yet Trump insists it;s all under control

TheNorthWestPawsage · 16/07/2020 18:36

I may have been mistaken re the CDC COVID dashboards being reliably back on line.

It may be the WH's manipulated figures that are now being uploaded.

Is it coincidence that the Worldometer site at www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ shows for the USA two days ago

Total cases 3,545,077
New cases +65,594
Total deaths 139,143
New deaths +935
Active cases 1,805,739

Yesterday
Total cases 3,616,827
New cases +71,750
Total deaths 140,144
New deaths +1,001
Active cases 1,830,721

Today
Total cases 3,648,961
New cases +32,134
Total deaths 140,524
New deaths +380
Active cases 1,860,676

It isn't a weekend when the figures often go down because they aren't reported until Monday...

HoldMyLobster · 16/07/2020 18:54

It's currently 11am on the west coast, they probably haven't reported all figures yet.

Sleipnirthewonderhorse · 16/07/2020 19:06

That's a rather impressive and of course totally believable drop in new cases and deaths there.
The numbers on the John Hopkins covid tracker look somewhat different, but im not entirely sure I'm comparing the same day's figures.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/07/2020 19:33

The JHU figures are for 7/16/2020, which is today. We'll see whether the Worldometer figure for "yesterday" is different tomorrow from the "now" figure today.

Lweji · 16/07/2020 19:58

Don't pay attention to today's numbers. They are only partial, always, as not all states have reported yet, and even so, some seem to report during the day according to counties.

Click on the USA link on the country table to see what I mean.

His (Trump's) historic Covid response speaks for itself

edition.cnn.com/2020/07/16/politics/donald-trump-coronavirus-leadership/index.html

'(CNN)President Donald Trump isn't leading America much as its pandemic worsens. But that's not stopping Walmart along with Kroger, Kohl's, and city and state leaders and officials from making the tough decisions that the President has shirked.

Given Trump's approach, if the country is to exit the building disaster without many more thousands dead, it will fall to governors, mayors, college presidents and school principals, teachers and grocery store managers to execute plans balancing public health with the need for life to go on.'

This is how yesterday's numbers turned out. A record. So, so far not too hidden.

McNanny says science should not stand in the way of the decision to open schools, while saying that scence supports it.

Aparently, the US is an outlier in not reopening schools. It's also an outlier in case numbers. And and out and out liar.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 17/07/2020 10:29

Thanks, Lweji. I was going to have a look at about midday when I was certain it would all be up if it was going to be up!

Lweji · 17/07/2020 11:51

Worldometer records numbers collected by counties and states, rather than one single value from a central database from the US.
Updates can be sent by the public, based on reported figures.

Not sure how reporting to Washington rather than the CDC will affect these numbers. Presumably, local authorities and state governments get data as well.

I can see the next thing being threats made against anyone seen wearing a mask. It has all gone beyond silly to scary.

AcrossthePond55 · 17/07/2020 19:17

@AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

I can see the next thing being threats made against anyone seen wearing a mask. It has all gone beyond silly to scary.
That's already happening. There have been people spat on and sworn at. People have been walked up to and coughed on. It's disgusting. I don't know if anyone has actually been assaulted yet for simply wearing a mask but it wouldn't surprise me.

The Repugs are seeing mask wearing/not wearing solely as a political statement, not a safety measure. If you wear a mask you must be a leftist commie radical who hates America therefore you deserve abuse. If you refuse to wear one you're showing support for the messiah, Scrotus, and 'proving' that you're a real Conservative. Oh, and it also shows your Faith in God. Guess they never heard the 'modern parable' about the rowboat and the helicopter. It's really approaching a Jim Jones/Jonestown level of blind obedience now. I mean, Scrotus already tried to get them to 'drink the bleach KoolAid'.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-53429800

'The governor of Georgia is suing Atlanta authorities to prevent the US city from enforcing its requirement to wear masks in public, along with other coronavirus-related restrictions.

Governor Brian Kemp said Atlanta's Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms lacked the authority to implement the rule.

Mr Kemp signed an executive order earlier this week voiding mask mandates across the state.

But Ms Bottoms said this would not stop Atlanta from enforcing its ordinance.'

lionheart · 17/07/2020 19:27

The mask thing is bonkers.

lionheart · 17/07/2020 19:29

Gun control on the ticket.

www.salon.com/2020/07/16/exclusive-poll-shows-gun-safety-messages-swing-voters-to-democrats-as-worries-rise-amid-pandemic/

'A massive survey of 13 battleground states found that gun safety-themed messages were among the most impactful in swinging voters to presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden amid the coronavirus pandemic.'
