Favourite old children’s shows

Sorry for shamelessly using AIBU for traffic!

I’m pregnant and feeling nostalgic for the children’s tv shows of my childhood! My absolute favourite was Old Bear Stories (from the Jane Hissey books), and I’ve just seen it’s all on YouTube so I can’t wait to show them to my baby!

What were your favourites, and do you think they beat out the Pepper Pigs of today?

The Tomorrow People! Loved it.
Also remember Watch with mother - Andy Pandy, the Woodentops, tales of the Riverbank, and Playschool (the round, square and arched windows) Yeap I’m that old.
Does anyone else remember a lovely version of Carrie’s War, probably early 70s?

LunaMay · 23/05/2020 19:42

The Snorks
The Smurfs
Gummi Bears
Care Bears
Pound Puppies
Sooty
Raggy Dolls
Muppet Babies
Danger mouse
Roger Ramjet
Super Ted
Trap Door
Gargoyles
She Ra
The world of David the Gnome - Think this was a favorite when i was really young

Round the twist
Secret Valley - Not sure if that was only in Australia?

As a teen i still loved all the Nickelodeon stuff, Catdog, Rocko, Hey Arnold, Real Monsters, Angry Beavers, Wild Thornberrys. I just got a heap of them on DVD.

Spartakus And The Sun Beneath The Sea - I remember watching this before school every morning. I had forgotten what it was called over time but the theme song would regularly pop into my head even 30 years later but not enough to remind me of the title.. i think it may have been a similar thread that i was reminded.

LunaMay · 23/05/2020 19:44

@bloodyhellsbellsx @Snaketime it's ok i remember my cousin having a crush on adult Simba back in the day.

1Morewineplease · 23/05/2020 19:47

Aah @Beekeeper1 , Richard Baker, such a comforting newsreader.
However, I’m sorry to say that Egbert Nosh passed me by. I’ll google.

@MereDintofPandiculation , I don’t remember Rag, Tag and Bobtail but I knew of it, maybe I did see it but I did remember Tinger and Tucker and wonder whether that was of the same era?

Really lovely thread OP. Thank you.

ThornyR0se · 23/05/2020 20:10

A weird one called The Changes that used to frighten me.

One called Sky about an alien boy.

Beekeeper1 · 23/05/2020 20:16

@tempestterra, the ghostly drummer boy, was that 'Earthfasts' by any chance, based on William Mayne's childrens novel of the same name?

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 23/05/2020 20:21

Codename Icarus.

There was also a dubbed tv show, set in a Victorian style era. Two countries were divided by a river. One side was an industrialised dystopia, the other a rural idyll. The dystopia (in monochrome shades) had a super weapon... does anybody have any idea what show I’m talking about?

QueenArseClangers · 23/05/2020 20:22

Vicky the Viking

Let’s Pretend

The always amazing Rainbow (we watch these now still Grin)

Anyone remember the children’s British film foundation dramas? One in particular called ‘Terry on the Fence’ scarred and scared me as a child.

The Children of Green Knowe

Book Tower

Brave Star

Henry’s Cat (still genius)
