Yes it's yet another Clap thread, sorry. But all the other threads seem to be populated mostly by people (me included) second-guessing what NHS workers actually want.

Non-NHS workers: if you can, please sit on your hands for this thread. No sneaky voting just because you have strong views on the matter.

It needs to stop now

They need decent pay for the amount of responsibility they have.
They need decent resources to do their jobs properly.
They don’t need a clap.

When it happened the first time, it was lovely, and I cried. It was so rare and special to feel genuinely appreciated.

Now... I get home knackered after a stressful day at the hospital and all I want to do is decompress. But I feel I can’t not go outside as everyone knows we are both NHS.

I always stay in, close the windows and put music on my headphones. So doesn't bother me either way.

Both me and DH are NHS. He loves it. I loathe it. A one off would have been an ok gesture but it’s not only cringe worthy, it’s divisive. I also hate free food etc for staff. A local restaurant has a big free food for NHS, police etc - better to support those in poverty and food banks in my opinion. Me and DH are well paid in public sector terms (although nearly 50 years experience and umpteen qualifications between us), enjoy multiple holidays a year ( not now obs) and have zero worries about unemployment, sick pay etc. We don’t need free pizza and our DC didn’t need free Easter eggs!

I don't love or hate it. I do still get a nice feeling that lots of people are united doing the same thing. Its possible to feel this and want a pay rise to!

DH is NHS. 32 years! He doesn't like the clapping at all. Never has.

It was lovely the first couple of weeks, quite emotional really. Now, given the crowds at beaches and obvious rule flouting, it actually feels patronising and conciliatory.

Nice initially but now just one more job to my week when I'm knackered. Kids like it so still join in though. I think it gives routine to those not working but I have that lucky or not depending on your point of view

I’m a nurse on what is now a Covid ward. I think it’s nice but I’d rather it stopped now due to the constant whinging about it on here and all the weird threads from people who seem jealous of the appreciation NHS workers are currently receiving.

I don’t see it’s for me it’s for those really on the front line

First one was emotional as it felt as though there was a real sense of community and being together

For many its a time they can connect with people as some are so isolated at the moment

I care neither way but think it’s had it’s time

There is a growing resentment towards nhs staff on here I don’t every hear it reflected in rl thankfully

Lovely sentiment the first time but it needs to stop. I want people to back the nhs, vote for party's who are not dismantling it, use it wisely and that the staff get the support and ppe they should have

My neighbours who clap the most are the ones who mostly break the rules. To me it’s pointless.

The first one was lovely. It should have stopped there.

First time was nice but it's run it's course. Some of my neighbours almost seem to have a competition to see who can make the most noise, bloody symbols! Also pisses me off that neighbours that are constantly breaking lock down are the ones out cheering the loudest. I find it cringey and want it to stop.

First time, nice. Now it's patronising and irritating.

But then I'm not frontline, I haven't been redeployed. Ironically that doesn't mean I'm sitting on my arse, I'm working just hard but not doing a job I enjoy

DP is NHS, he thinks it's bollocks.

I'm nhs, and same as a lot of posters, found it moving initially but a bit meaningless now.

Stop now. We are so grateful for all key workers , but I feel they know this ! I was grateful long before all this.

Me and DH work for the NHS and thought it was lovely at first.
I'm now sick of it, I'm sick of my hypocritical neighbours texting me asking where I was when they were clapping for us, I'm sick of the same neighbours flouting the rules by inviting all their very large extended family to BBQ and play in the paddling pool, I'm sick of the headache it gives me because they let their child peep the car horn for the full minute and I'm sick of the one-upmanship of it on social media the next day.
FFS if you really want to support the NHS stay at home and behave, instead of gonig to A&E with minor illnesses use common sense and consult a pharmacist and when your elderly relatives are admitted to hospital and require care services on discharge crack on when you're asked to visit carehomes etc.

Sorry I know that's a bit of a rant and more than likely not applicable for a huge amount of people on here but in general that's what's preventing the NHS running well, well that and chronic underfunding.
