THE CLAP. Let's settle this. If you work for the NHS, what do you think of it?

YABU = I'd rather it stopped now.

YANBU = I still like it.

Yes it's yet another Clap thread, sorry. But all the other threads seem to be populated mostly by people (me included) second-guessing what NHS workers actually want.

Non-NHS workers: if you can, please sit on your hands for this thread. No sneaky voting just because you have strong views on the matter. Wink

It was lovely at the start but is getting rather hackneyed now. Also, the legions of idiots who flocked to my county from far and wide over the Bank Holiday weekend bringing their germs and litter with them clearly don't give a shit about anything or anyone but themselves and clapping for 60 seconds on a Thursday night does not atone for that.

Not NHS but social care (well to be fair I'm not frontline anymore so care adjacent but I speak to dozens if care staff every day from morning to night)

They hate it , firstly it feels twee and smug and seems to rarely translate into anything real. One poor carer actually had it thrown pack in his face after doing back to back shifts from God knows when from a family member who wanted him to do something specific for her mum( any other carer could have done it , there was zero reason why he needed to do it several carers had a good relationship with the resident ) and told him she claps on a Thursday for carers and NHS so it was the least he could do.

Honestly the clappers have equated themselves in my mind with virtue signallers who dont actually have any real empathy for what is involved in NHS or care.

First time was nice , from then....no

I'm a nurse in an oncology hospital. The first time I heard the clapping it was moving and I really appreciated it (may have got just a little tearful). But I thought it was just going to be a one off thing - I really don't see the need for it to carry on every week and I think it's actually led to that first clap losing a lot of its emotional resonance.

I thought it was great to begin with but I think it has now become a little stale. The turn out in my neighbourhood each Thursday has decreased dramatically leaving only 4 households now doing it.... I am one of the 4 but I am going to stop now as I have recently lost my job working for the NHS as they refused to Furlough me (was on a flexible hours contract) I had to "voluntarily" resign in order to claim Universal Credit so that I can feed my son and I. 😒

Met my friend last night and we were both saying that we hope that in the event of another lockdown (local or national) the bloody clapping 👏 doesn't start again!!

Anyone who's in an area where there's a local lockdown please tell me it's not all started again!!
