Got sent this by my boss.
Would you be offended?

Fairly accurate.

Hyrana · 29/04/2020 11:41

Oh RapunzelinQuarantine you have got me there. If I can't sleep I tend to drift away to Mr Obama. He is my favourite. Michelle died a sad, dignified death, I love her as well in RL but sorry Michelle, you are gone. Grin

fuckinghellthisshit · 29/04/2020 12:07

this thread sums up everything in life atm
confusing, weird, pointless and defying explanation.

pigsDOfly · 29/04/2020 12:13

@ShouldWeChangeTheBulb How is the joke 'bringing race into it'?

Every president up until Obama was white and Obama is black, how exactly would you want him to be shown?

The whole point of the meme is the clown at the end.

MrsJoshNavidi · 29/04/2020 12:19

I think it's most offensive to the people who have only ever voted in elderly white men as president until recently.

It's kind of saying "same old, same old" for years and years, then finally someone who broke the mould. Then back to the same old mould, albeit in clown form.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 29/04/2020 12:26

I'm offended at the lack of women

DollysDrawers · 29/04/2020 12:28

Offended by what?

Can't vote as you haven't said which is which.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/04/2020 12:31

It's awful. Nearly all white men. It needs more diversity.

InsideNo · 29/04/2020 12:41

This guy is offended.

You are probbly joking but just in case ..
But up until Obama they were all white men!
The whole point is the clown at the end!

Mummoomoocow · 29/04/2020 13:06

Entirely probable that not being a person of colour means I see this image differently to those who are.

It makes me feel uncomfortable for a cheap laugh that race is significant enough to poke fun at. Also that America had the opportunity to have one person of colour as POTUS and then elected a complete bellend straight after, as though they'd rather a fucking clown than someone else with BAME origin (although I'm fully aware of the election process but it appears as so in this image)

amy85 · 29/04/2020 13:20

It isn't poking fun at race at all....it's poking fun at Trump being a clown

midnightstar66 · 29/04/2020 13:24

But the only person it's poking fun at is trump. The others are just being represented with their correct skin tones on the only way you can with emoji.

midnightstar66 · 29/04/2020 13:26

Also that America had the opportunity to have one person of colour as POTUS and then elected a complete bellend straight after, as though they'd rather a fucking clown than someone else with BAME origin (although I'm fully aware of the election process but it appears as so in this image)

But Obama didn't run against him - he didn't stand in that election so that makes zero sense, and is a real stretch of an interpretation

AryaStarkWolf · 29/04/2020 13:26

@Mummoomoocow How is it poking fun at race though? It's poking fun at Trump..everyone else in the picture is a normal person and Trump is a clown? Surely if they'd made Obama a "white" emoji that would be more offensive?

Mummoomoocow · 29/04/2020 13:30

I understand the views being said and I don't feel offended by the image, I'm just trying to explain why it makes me feel uncomfortable. Again I'm viewing this through the eyes of white skin and it makes me feel weird, best way I can explain is what I said above. I'm aware it's not an accurate description of who becomes president and how, just trying to describe what I see

Mummoomoocow · 29/04/2020 13:35

I suppose another view is that race isn't necessary in the image to depict the presidents that aren't trump. Could have used this emoji 😧 for example, you know, to reflect how we all feel about the tool

RebelWhoWashesFor19Seconds · 29/04/2020 13:52

It's pretty accurate.

TerrorWig · 29/04/2020 14:13

@Mummoomoocow it’s not a representation of ‘us all’ it’s a representation of the presidents of the USA, all of which were white men until Obama and now they have a clown.

No women in there either. It’s not sexist to not have a female emoji, they haven’t had a female president.

TerrorWig · 29/04/2020 14:20

JFK and Clinton didn’t have grey mustachios either (that’s an autocorrect but in keeping it! Grin) - no one is getting offended about that? They were also considered good looking?

In fact, quite a few presidents were young(ish) and handsome. So to get up in arms that the exact same emoji has been used just with different skin tones is ridiculous.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2020 14:40

as though they'd rather a fucking clown than someone else with BAME origin

It's not saying that at all. Barack Obama served two terms as president, so not allowed to do any more under US law.

If you're looking at it like that, it's more offensive to women as the choice was Hillary Clinton vs Donald Trump, so people were saying they'd rather a fucking clown was president than a woman, and I'm quite sure that plenty of people did use that as a deciding factor.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2020 14:42

And it would be nice if the OP was to come back and let us all know exactly why we should find the cartoon offensive.

Willow2017 · 29/04/2020 15:07

It makes me feel uncomfortable for a cheap laugh that race is significant enough to poke fun at.
Its not poking fun at race at all, all the emojis are the same face except Trump.

I suppose another view is that race isn't necessary in the image to depict the presidents that aren't trump. Could have used this emoji 😧 for example, you know, to reflect how we all feel about the tool

That wouldnt make any sense as its about the POTUS not 'us'.
Why is actually pointing out the obvious not allowed? All the previous POTUS were white men except Obama. Thats a fact not discriminatory. The people in USA elected a clown, nothing to do with his colour nor Obamas. If someone who was BAME and still a fecking tool was elected would that have made it any different?

Spidey66 · 29/04/2020 15:11

I thought it was funny!

Mummoomoocow · 29/04/2020 15:14

I can't be explaining myself properly because a few people have replied thinking I'm offended. It just doesn't sit well with me and I can't articulate properly why, what I've explained is as best a way as I can. It's just a feeling. Pointing out someone's race or sex for that matter just doesn't seem necessary in the telling of the joke
