Got sent this by my boss.
Would you be offended?

That beard really suits Barack Obama. Lucky Michelle 😉

Dieu · 29/04/2020 08:35

Absolutely no offence taken here!

CoraPirbright · 29/04/2020 08:36

Why on earth would that be offensive? In fact it makes a useful point about the lack of women and the fact that only one was different from the usual older white guy.

Like Obama’s beard! He’s a good looking man. God I miss him - intelligence, dignity and grace that it utterly lacking in the White House now.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2020 08:39

It's an illustration how little diversity there has been in US presidents, before Obama, all being white, male and probably also from similar socioeconomic backgrounds.

Not offensive, but sobering. Plus the humour at the end poking fun at Donald Trump is a nice touch. He gets worse every day.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2020 08:41

Or maybe it's offensive to the presidents who didn't suffer from hair loss. Or poking fun at those who did .

MorrisZapp · 29/04/2020 08:41

Omg is beard Obama real? You know, they used to say that Russia was a mystery wrapped in an enigma but it's America that baffles outsiders the most. The country that produced and elected Obama also produced and elected you know who. How can this be?

Just when you think it's peaked, the insanity ramps up higher. Perhaps this is a short lived thing. Perhaps they'll elect a boring but educated and capable geezer/geezeress next time round. God I miss boring politicians. We didn't know when we were lucky.

MorrisZapp · 29/04/2020 08:44

Does anyone else remember where they were the first time they saw Obama with his sleeves rolled up? I do. Bloooooooody hell.......

Mlou32 · 29/04/2020 08:50

Only if you're a simpering snowflake...

georgialondon · 29/04/2020 09:09

Only if you support trump. In which case you have so many things you should be worrying about that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

ShouldWeChangeTheBulb · 29/04/2020 09:15

I wouldn’t send that meme, especially to a colleague. I am not offended by it or in any way a snowflake but I think you have to be very careful about jokes where race is involved because you may be miss-interpreted. There a a plethora of ways to take the piss out of trump. You really don’t have to bring race into it.

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 29/04/2020 09:20

Only if you’re the terminally offended by EVERYTHING brigade! Hmm

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2020 09:21

So we now have to pretend that Barack Obama isn't black, or that he wasn't president of the USA or the only one who wasn't white, or what then?

It's not bringing race into it, it's cartoon representations of the presidents. 43 white men, one black man and the clown that is Donald Trump.

JudgeRindersMinder · 29/04/2020 09:23

If you need to ask if something is offensive the answer is no

ThanosSavedMe · 29/04/2020 09:23

Obama suits a beard!

midnightstar66 · 29/04/2020 09:24

Well if your Donald or a clown then yes. If not - no. Also I guess it depends on the context this was sent. We have a workplace what's app where all kinds will be sent. Would never be sent on the work intranet though. I'd still not be offended had it been but I'd expect that to be for work purposes only so if I was determined to be offended I suppose I could cite that as the reason

Bouledeneige · 29/04/2020 09:26

It's not offensive. Obama is aware he's black. Trump isn't a clown he's worse.

Aweebawbee · 29/04/2020 10:21

I would be a little offended if I were Clinton. He has a splendid head of hair.

ALovelyBitOfSquirrel · 29/04/2020 10:24

Not at all offensive. Why do you ask?

Umnoway · 29/04/2020 10:28

Not sure what you’re offended by, it seems quite accurate tbh.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 29/04/2020 10:33

I'm offended.

There should be a clown right about in the G W Bush position as well ...

Blackandgreenteas · 29/04/2020 10:34

Obama was black? Now you tell me!

Aweebawbee · 29/04/2020 10:49

I'm looking for ways to be offended here and I suppose you could argue that Obama's defining characteristic is not his skin colour, but his intelligence, eloquence etc. But that would spoil the joke. Or is there some underlying suggestion that things started to go wrong when the pattern was broken? Ridiculous, of course, it was not all perfect before the current situation and there were plenty of great, idiotic or downright evil presidents before this one.

Baconisgoodformeee · 29/04/2020 10:50

Is everyone else on the lists defining characteristic their skin colour also then?

Aweebawbee · 29/04/2020 10:55

They actually lack any defining characteristics because they are all white.

Aweebawbee · 29/04/2020 10:58

I suppose the absence of a characteristic is, in itself, a characteristic.
