Hot tubs

AIBU to think that all of my friends might think we’re swingers if we purchase a Lay Z Spa hot tub for the Summer? I’ve suddenly become obsessed with finding one online and can’t think of anything better than jumping into a giant bubbly lilo thing at the end of each day (my search is somewhat fruitless so far, as the whole of the UK seems to have sold out!).
However, will we be ‘judged’ by our friends and neighbours for our rash decision?

Never mind the sex, what's more important is how will you pronounce the "Z"?

speakout · 28/04/2020 17:46

Why would you choose to bathe in chlorine?

MsTSwift · 28/04/2020 17:46

A family member runs his own very successful company sorting out boilers and water supply safety for large companies to ensure water is safe and fresh and no legionnaires disease etc I follow his instruction on our hot tub as he actually knows what he’s talking about.

MsTSwift · 28/04/2020 17:49

I don’t see it as a way to get clean I shower before I get in and afterwards - do you wash in the swimming pool?! Just enjoy sitting in very hot bubbles in my garden mine is large 6 person one - lovely ! Massages my neck. Take my book. Lush.

Why would you choose to bathe in chlorine?

Because I enjoy it.

Northernwarrior · 28/04/2020 17:50

I can’t stand Lazy spa’s they just look like birthing pools.

vickimum · 28/04/2020 17:52

Unfortunately I’m not Maureen. Lucky Maureen though. They’ve sold out everywhere!

These of you who have one, how do you power them? We've been looking at a lay-z-spa and have seen some reviews suggesting they don't always work with extension cables — anyone had this issue?

Murinae · 28/04/2020 17:56

We power ours through our daughters bedroom window with an extension cable and it works fine.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/04/2020 17:57

We had an outdoor socket fitted. I’m not sure why they wouldn’t work with extension cables though - a three-pin socket isn’t a three-pin socket.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/04/2020 17:57

is a three-pin socket. Bloody autocorrect.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 28/04/2020 17:57

We have a proper one. I'm not a huge fan but DH likes it. One neighbour did make a comment once that he could hear it. i can hear him hosting 2am BBQs all summer too so idc Our other mutual neighbours have just bought a layzspa, so I bet they are now realising what loud really means. Ours is positively silent in comparison.

Arnoldthecat · 28/04/2020 17:57

I dont find them very comfortable to sit in. They make me feel hot and sickly. Neighbours have one which is a Laz Y variety. The brand has brought hot tub ownership to the masses. I'm sure they are quite handy as they are easily packed away unlike a fixed installation model. I must admit as soon as they got it,i just thought "swingers". Thankfully i wasnt invited as i wouldnt want to shag his wife.

MsTSwift · 28/04/2020 17:58

Ours is proper hard standing one we remodelled part of garden round it so you can walk from house to it without going on grass. Electrician came and did outdoor plug for it and outdoor lighting. Dh is one of those “if we do it we do it properly” types so vetoed inflatable spa on grass...

ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/04/2020 18:02

Somewhere there’s a very posh lady saying, “Actually, I think you’ll find that in this country, we call it a Lay Zed Spa.”

Potionqueen · 28/04/2020 18:03

We had 2 solid spas, one in the U.K. one in our home in Spain. We have given away the U.K. one to our dd and sil. They love it, especially in lockdown.
People saying you can get chlamydia from hot tubs - please educate yourselves. You probably still think you can get STDs from toilet seats!

KingOfDogShite · 28/04/2020 18:08

My neighbours have one and I have never smelled it in my garden. I can hear it occasionally but it isn’t intrusive at all. I’ve considered getting one but I like my baths really fucking hot and I don’t think I’d be able to get a hot tub hot enough to please me.

speakout · 28/04/2020 18:10

Love it!!

Imboredinthehouse · 28/04/2020 18:17

It’s not analogous to a bath it’s more like your own swimming pool as treated with chemicals
Would you not use a friends private swimming pool?

But you can swim in a pool.
I personally don’t get the attraction of sitting about in warm, chemical treated water with others. I don’t particularly care if other people do it. I just don’t want to have to listen to them.

Drivingdownthe101 · 28/04/2020 18:20

There are many things I don’t see the attraction of but have to hear/see other people do them. That’s life unfortunately.

NoProblem123 · 28/04/2020 18:22

I wouldn’t get an inflatable one at any time other than lockdown as they’re quite noisy for your neighbours to have to listen to.
No neighbours then go ahead!

I saved for a proper spa and love it although it’s a lot more expensive on electric than what the manufacturer says.
I keep it tip-top with chemicals and only my immediate family use it, mostly though it’s just me and a large wine or 2.

Never heard the connection to swingers before and tbh I still don’t care, haters gonna hate, tubbers gonna tub, cheers Grin

Thighmageddon · 28/04/2020 18:22

Totally missing the joke there potionqueen

MsTSwift · 28/04/2020 18:23

For me it’s dogs. But others love them so what can you do?

2bazookas · 28/04/2020 18:23

Gawd, when I was a child we all had to share the same bath water and I hated it. So hot tubs have zero appeal.

Arnoldthecat · 28/04/2020 18:27

Do you get a puncture repair kit with the LaZee in case you have an accident ?
