Hot tubs

AIBU to think that all of my friends might think we’re swingers if we purchase a Lay Z Spa hot tub for the Summer? I’ve suddenly become obsessed with finding one online and can’t think of anything better than jumping into a giant bubbly lilo thing at the end of each day (my search is somewhat fruitless so far, as the whole of the UK seems to have sold out!).
However, will we be ‘judged’ by our friends and neighbours for our rash decision?

Love it in winter. We rolled in snow then jumped in that was fun. In on Christmas morning too. Plus teens forced to talk to you as they have to put phones down 😃. Been a godsend during the lockdown

Bonkerz · 27/04/2020 22:03

Had one for 3 years now. Goes up in April till October. Kids love it. Great for anxiety and two of mine have autism and adhd so helps a lot. It's also great for my aching bones and muscles. Single mum. Not a swinger.

transformandriseup · 27/04/2020 22:06

We have one and I love it. It's not lukewarm, it's 40 degrees.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 27/04/2020 23:18

Thank you for the replies on running costs and maintenance, its really interesting to know ,

Apirateslifeforme · 27/04/2020 23:34

Weve got the St Moritz which I think its about the 3rd biggest one.
The heating costs us a few quid a week, as weve got solar panels that most of the electric must come from- and it means the telly is off whilst were in it!

Chlorine isnt too bad (B&M has it for £8 at the moment) plus the chlorine sticks
Filter needs changing each day, and bedtwau does a Hoover sort of thing that helps get leaves and little bits of debris out that might fall in.

Not really a big cost for upkeep IMO.

We love ours I like the fact it's no faff, we would struggle with the delivery of a proper tub. I like that when the colder weather comes I can just empty, dry out and throw in the box and in the shed.

LEELULUMPKIN · 28/04/2020 13:08

Your name isn't Maureen is it OP? I have received an incorrect delivery today and from the look on the packaging it's from a hot tub supplies company.

If you did order one, I might have it!

WhyCantIThinkOfAGoodOne · 28/04/2020 13:13

If you want to catch chlamydia from a luke-warm outdoors sex pond that annoys the fuck out of your neighbours, crack on.

Oh my that escalated fast! How on earth will she get infected with chlamydia unless her or her DH already have it?

I think hot tubs look ugly as hell but I don't think I'd care if my neighbors bought one (as long as they didn't invite me round for a swinger's party!).

pilates · 28/04/2020 13:19

My neighbours have one which is close to our bedroom window which can be annoying. The problem is they don’t realise how loud they are when they are in it!

Murinae · 28/04/2020 13:28

We have the lazyspa Helsinki. Had it just over a year and have left it up all winter. We love it especially now in lockdown. We do have a large not overlooked garden though so no neighbours to annoy. We had to get the lazyspa as we have access issues and can’t get a solid on I to the garden unless it’s somehow lifted over the house. I like the soft base and sides.

username108 · 28/04/2020 13:30

fucking disgusting things. why the fuck would you want to share bath water with someone, with shit particles in? Tacky as fuck

Newkitchen123 · 28/04/2020 13:59

We've got one. Didn't half notice a spike in our electric bill but it is nice
We're not swingers!

LEELULUMPKIN · 28/04/2020 13:59

I've just had a very dodgy porn star looking bloke knocking on my door, I am guessing he came for his package!

I didn't answer (never do when I am home alone) I will get DH to take it round when he gets in from work and check out if they have pampass grass in the garden.

pairofchairs · 28/04/2020 14:43

@username108 has obviously never been in a public swimming pool. Because I'd rather be in my fucking pristine hot tub which is cleaned and balanced and tested to within an inch of its life than floating around with the great unwashed down the local leisure centre. At least I know who I'm sharing water with Grin

LaurieMarlow · 28/04/2020 15:01

Words like ‘tacky’ and ‘vulgar’ that people throw around are basically meaningless.

All they indicate are ‘I don’t approve and want to shame you out of it’.

Ignore the twats. Sounds like a great lockdown purchase. Enjoy.

PubsClubsMinistryOfSound · 28/04/2020 15:14

How much do people find the inflatable ones cost to heat?

Newkitchen123 · 28/04/2020 15:14

@username108 what an extensive vocabulary you have

fikel · 28/04/2020 15:23

Even a post about a hot tub turns nasty on Mumsnet

Belindabelle · 28/04/2020 15:26

We are seriously thinking about getting one. Looking at the Skargards woodburner type. Not cheap but no long haul holiday this year.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 28/04/2020 15:39

Ah, @username108. I see your extensive, witty, creative vocabulary extends to both your choice of username and your critique of hot tubs. Bravo.

Herecomestreble1 · 28/04/2020 16:08

Our neighbours have one, and the hot tub in of itself doesn't bother me, but they seem to forget how well sounds travel outside and speak quite loudly, meaning we hear everything they talk and giggle about well into the night.

CherryPavlova · 28/04/2020 16:08

username108 Have you never shared your bath with your husband or children? Do you not go in the sea?

I’d much rather our hot tub than a disgusting holiday park pool, with abundant flotsam and jetsam languishing amongst the heaving crowds.

MsTSwift · 28/04/2020 17:31

It’s not analogous to a bath it’s more like your own swimming pool as treated with chemicals. Damn sight cleaner than a public pool as only used by 4 of us after showering first. Would you not use a friends private swimming pool?

speakout · 28/04/2020 17:37

It's hot though- not hot enough to kill germs, but nicely warm enough to multiply.

Drivingdownthe101 · 28/04/2020 17:44

That’s why you put chlorine in it.

MsTSwift · 28/04/2020 17:44

Which is why it’s chlorinated 🙄
