Found a phone in my garden - isolated property - shit scared

Name changed for this - Sorry if this seem trivial, I know people are dealing with far bigger things at the moment.

I found a phone lying on the ground, about 5 yards from my house.

We live in an isolated property about a mile away from the first road. We have not have any visitors , maintenance people for many weeks (obviously). Delivery drivers, yes, but they would not have any reason to go to this part of the garden/couldn't access it during daytime without us seeing something.
At first I assumed it belonged to one of us, but no! Confused
Phoned the police, have a ref./case number, etc. but they're busy and will get back to us when they can.
The police said to take the phone indoors and wait for their call/visit.

I am worried that the next visit is going to be from whomever the phone belongs to.
The phone is dead as a dodo but I assume it still can be found?

What should do?

Serin where does it say they won't be updating the OP? Confused

Floofboopsnootandbork · 24/04/2020 23:07

Your 2 updates dont quite match OP??

Firstly you say that they wont be updating you and then suddenly they will?

Perhaps you’ve misread, both of OPs updates say pretty much the same regarding updating.

The first says They took the phone and said they will let us know what they find, I wouldn't have thought they would disclose any info, but we'll see.
And the second, They're going to let us know what they find on the phone, now that is a surprise because I would't have thought that they would share much info with us, but we'll see.

Buy a Ring Camera Light, it works like the doorbell but it records motion, we live rurally and it just gives me peace of mind.

AdobeWanKenobi · 24/04/2020 23:13

This isn’t as spooky as Birdie Friend

I've never found works of fiction to be in any way spooky so I'd have to disagree with that

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 24/04/2020 23:13

I get why the op is scared. I don't live remotely but because I'm shielding I have to sleep separately from my dp. In the middle of the night the dog started growling and starting at the front door. So op ignore the people making rude comments. I understand why you feel the way you are about this. It is scary. Dogs know for sure if something is off.

Is it SE rose gold , with a somewhat exploded battery by any chance?

We have just had the weirdest encounter with our phone and now I won’t be surprised if someone chucked it in someone’s garden

Random I know but if this is it I can explain !

DroppedBoxxedRuth · 24/04/2020 23:22

I get it too OP, I'd be very worried also.

Nillynally · 24/04/2020 23:24

Shameless place marking

Basically our phone was stolen from courier which was meant to take it to Apple for repair !! And we have had it replaced with a stolen phone.. which is back to us. And the dilemma is now we have handed back the stolen phone but trying fo prove the courier stole ours and I’m still unsure why they would ! Weird

Legoandloldolls · 24/04/2020 23:24

Hmm, police still my friends phone after about ten months. Let's hope your dealing with the MET or it will be like the lost ARC in a warehouse for decades

GabsAlot · 24/04/2020 23:25

I dont know what avalanche is on

but i thik the people that dropped the phone is the dh that goes round making bird noises with his kids and hides in bushes

theschoolonthehill · 24/04/2020 23:29

Lock up well. If it is an expensive phone and has any personal info on it, they may return to look for it. Though I suppose it isn’t expensive to them as they will just steal another one.

ScarredBunny · 24/04/2020 23:29

TheMotherof All awful

NameChange1000 Exactly,. No one can have been where I found the phone without nefarious purpose.

Chillicheese Grintwo whole miles - because it's nice. But today I am reminded that no one hears you scream.Hmm It's fine, I can drive. Kids are young adults back from Uni for the duration of The Plague. They can drive too!

Bloody hell - don't move to London! Probably an animal? postman/delivery driver dropped it? Apart from worrying that someone has lost their phone and wanting to return it what's the issue?

CoronaIsShit · 24/04/2020 23:31

You were right to be worried considering where you live and how close to your house the phone was OP. I would have tried to put the sim into another phone to see if I could find anything out about it before phoning the police but I’m a nosey bugger!

I’d be extra careful with security for the next few days if I were you, especially tonight, if you think it was dropped last night. Whomever it was might be waiting until it looks like you’ve gone to bed tonight to retrieve it. In fact I’d be staying up keeping a lookout tonight just in case!

Banana1984 · 24/04/2020 23:36

Could be someone has stolen the phone and chucked it there.
Most likely someone was nosing about or walking through the garden and dropped it or chucked it it may have not even been theirs. I know u said you live in an isolated spot but unless you are living in true isolation ie the outer hebrides lol there are always people walking about here and there even if you don't personally see them.

ChockyBicky · 24/04/2020 23:38

As others have suggested it could be a fox I remember sitting in the garden and a fox brazenly strolled up and took off with one of my shoes.

ChockyBicky · 24/04/2020 23:39

I wasn't wearing the shoe at the time I'll just add.

Qgardens · 24/04/2020 23:42

Trust that dog tonight. I'd be scared too.

Inkpaperstars · 24/04/2020 23:42

I can understand the issue. I live in London and stuff ends by our entrance all the time from passers by, deliveries going to other flats. But if you live in a place where there are no passers by and the only deliveries are for you it is more likely to worry you that someone may have been there for nefarious purposes. Hopefully not, I still think there is most likely an innocent explanation, but when you live in an isolated place these things can spook you.

LilacTree1 · 24/04/2020 23:44

Chocky “ I wasn't wearing the shoe at the time I'll just add.”

😂😂😂

EatingIsMyHobby · 24/04/2020 23:44

I'd be a bit freaked out by it too, OP.
