Found a phone in my garden - isolated property - shit scared

Name changed for this - Sorry if this seem trivial, I know people are dealing with far bigger things at the moment.

I found a phone lying on the ground, about 5 yards from my house.

We live in an isolated property about a mile away from the first road. We have not have any visitors , maintenance people for many weeks (obviously). Delivery drivers, yes, but they would not have any reason to go to this part of the garden/couldn't access it during daytime without us seeing something.
At first I assumed it belonged to one of us, but no! Confused
Phoned the police, have a ref./case number, etc. but they're busy and will get back to us when they can.
The police said to take the phone indoors and wait for their call/visit.

I am worried that the next visit is going to be from whomever the phone belongs to.
The phone is dead as a dodo but I assume it still can be found?

What should do?

ZOMBIE thread from 2020 FFS

BobbyBiscuits · 02/04/2024 09:24

It makes me think someone wanted to get rid of it on purpose. Like could it have been thrown from a moving car?
I guess you told the police, if it was some master criminals phone then could you just hand it into the police station.
Do you have a community forum or FB page? You could put a message on there in case a local or a worker lost it?
I certainly wouldn't worry though. Take it as a local mystery I guess.

Maybe chucked by a burglar? A few years ago a purse of mine, that had been stolen during a burglary, turned up months later, having been found in someone’s garden half a mile away. It still contained my driving licence (which I hadn’t bothered to replace!) so the finders knew where to return it and very kindly did so.

a fox is the first thing that comes to mind. doubt it's anything sinister after all it's a cell phone not a gun.
i'd dry it (in a bag of rice) and possibly plug it in. interesting not frightening.

A fox dropped his iPhone?

@TomNook are you ok? You haven't posted for 4 years ( unless name changed?) and then resurrect an old thread?

I read the zombie warning, but someone was talking about this thread on another chat, so I found it

Admin need to just delete these when idiots like this pop up. Look how many people from OT have had to confirm it's 4 years old because some plonker thought "finding it" was more important than everyone else, hundreds of users, getting a notification 🙄

ZOMBIE THREAD

Why do zombie threads piss you off so much?

cariadlet · 03/04/2024 01:05

Zombie threads are annoying because posters reply to the OP without having checked the date so their comments are usually completely irrelevant, especially if they're offering advice about something that happened years ago.

People who posted on the thread will find it popping up in their "threads you're on" tab. If they're like me and posted fairly early in the thread and didn't read all the initial posts, then they'll waste time scrolling through all the replies to find out why the thread has reappeared.

Very occasionally, the op will resurrect a zombie thread themselves to update everyone. That's completely different. I welcome that kind of zombie thread, especially if the op had been going through a difficult time and has managed to sort things out and is now in a better situation.

PS I do get the irony in explaining why zombie threads are annoying and thereby keeping a zombie thread active!

So why didn't you just copy the link and post it on that thread?

This. So what? I have to say, I read it and thought 'ohhhh yes, I remember that! I hope there's an update',
