I've seen some beautiful examples of things some commenters think are 'non-essential' and therefore people shouldn't be leaving their houses for... trawling through each thread to find them is so tiresome, will some kind MNers please share what they've seen that made them laugh?

I'll start... Newspaper, Bread, Milk

Not looking to name and shame anybody, I just want some insight into the state of things right now.

I'm just waiting for somebody to start listing off 'essential' medications. Maybe that will stop selfish people flocking off to the pharmacies to buy Germoloids finally! (That was a joke please don't kill me Grin)

Laundry detergent. Perfectly acceptable to wsit 10 days.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 07/04/2020 15:11

In ssme thread a babys toothbrush

Thighmageddon · 07/04/2020 15:15

One that I saw was pet food.

My dog would start eating us if she wasn't fed Grin

FudgeBrownie2019 · 07/04/2020 15:18

Fruit, veg, tinned tomatoes. Any specific foods for picky eaters/coeliacs; they should get over it and eat what they're given (not my opinion).

jackparlabane · 07/04/2020 15:21

Baby clothes. Apparently they don't grow that fast and ones about to be born can just be rolled in pillowcases or something.

Shoes for.workers on their feet all day or kids outgrowing theirs.

Pipandmum · 07/04/2020 15:22

So there are threads of people giving their opinion on what it's ok to buy? How odd. I'm buying the same stuff I always buy with my weekly shop. Why not?

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 07/04/2020 15:22

This is half my shopping list gone already 😂

ShadowLightning · 07/04/2020 15:24

Shampoo.

Absolutely anything(!) treat related (chocolate, wine, crisps, fizzy drinks (despite some people diabetic of course)).

ZaraW · 07/04/2020 15:24

If you have the internet a newspaper isn't an essential. I read all newspapers and magazines through Press Reader.

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 07/04/2020 15:24

@pipandmum not devoted threads but somehow every thread manages to have somebody tell people what they bought and then a sea of people ask how they dare when none of it was essential Hmm

OP posts:
abitoflight · 07/04/2020 15:24

2 cucumbers cited as unnecessary

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 07/04/2020 15:25

@zaraw that's a fair point but in this example the culprit buying the newspaper was an 80 year old. I mean the nerve of some people 😂

Any beverage that isn't water
Easter eggs
Birthday presents for children (let alone adults)

ZaraW · 07/04/2020 15:27

SuckingDownDarjeeling fair enough. How dare they lol....My parents who have no internet love their newspapers so is an essential for some people.

Spam88 · 07/04/2020 15:28

I forgot about the kids shoes thread 😂

AliasGrape · 07/04/2020 15:30

Hot cross buns

Cucumber

itsbetterthanabox · 07/04/2020 15:31

Tbf I agree newspapers are not essential and mean you go out to a shop daily.
If no Internet then there's TV news.

hammeringinmyhead · 07/04/2020 15:31

Toilet roll! We can use facecloths or rags.

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 07/04/2020 15:35

@hammeringinmyhead no!! If we're not allowed to buy laundry detergent then that ain't happening!! 😂

OP posts:
cologne4711 · 07/04/2020 15:35

Easter eggs
Wine
Any other alcohol or chocolate, especially gin
Milk - apparently you can use cheese instead

Boots thinks anything that isn't medicine isn't essential.

Pets at home obviously have a definition of essentials too but I am not a pet owner so I don't know what you are allowed to buy and what not to buy

Newspapers even though they are still being sold and not everyone has the internet.

Oh yes hot cross buns and cucumber! I nearly bought some hot cross buns yesterday, just didn't have enough room in my rucksack for them. Saved from myself!

Gingerkittykat · 07/04/2020 15:36

You're a selfish fucker for going to B and M, let's remember it sells cheaper food than supermarkets as well as some medicines, toiletries and pet food cheaper than the supermarkets.

Plants or any garden equipment.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 07/04/2020 15:37

I went to Pets at Home a while ago and wanted to buy flea tablets. I was told they're only selling petfood and litter.

QuestionMarkNow · 07/04/2020 15:37

Apparently, the PM in New Zeland has made the tooth fairy and Easter Bunny eseential workers there....

Im wondering if that now makes easter eggs essential items lol!

caz114 · 07/04/2020 15:37

I had to buy a new telly when the other passed on. I suppose I could have made do with my computer. sky go, amazon prime etc.

It was essential to me tho!

Thighmageddon · 07/04/2020 15:38

Milk - apparently you can use cheese instead

How?

Are you supposed to melt it and then liquidise it?

How the fuck can cheese in your cup of tea be a replacement for milk?
