I've seen some beautiful examples of things some commenters think are 'non-essential' and therefore people shouldn't be leaving their houses for... trawling through each thread to find them is so tiresome, will some kind MNers please share what they've seen that made them laugh?

I'll start... Newspaper, Bread, Milk

Not looking to name and shame anybody, I just want some insight into the state of things right now.

I'm just waiting for somebody to start listing off 'essential' medications. Maybe that will stop selfish people flocking off to the pharmacies to buy Germoloids finally! (That was a joke please don't kill me Grin)

I did a big shop of essentials. Paid and realised I forgot coke. Went back to get it and because of the queue went to a new cashier and then felt I had to explain that I hadn't just come our for coke honestly I'd brought meat and milk and vegetables too!!

I did a click and collect order at KMart just for Easter chocolate. Much faster and safer than getting it from the supermarket as KMart was open and nearly empty. I am in Aus though and yes, our PM has also declared the Easter Bunny an essential worker so we don't have to justify buying Easter chocolate.

The batshit crazy MNers taking great pleasure in shaming other women for their shopping make me despair though, what happened to "if you can't say something nice say nothing at all?

The checkout lady at Spar told DP that vegetable oil wasn't essential.

I think she's having her own existential crisis at that till tbh.

I wish oh how I wish Caroline Aherne were still with us to do her Checkout Girl sketch, with her going through a Covid era shopping basket and commenting on every item.

Someone was told on a thread the other day that laundry detergent isn't essential.

Slightly different but I got called selfish on MN today for having an Asda delivery slot, instead of going in to do a shop. I'm a single mum of 2 and my daughter is asthmatic. Not a good enough reason to have a slot apparently, I should be putting my kids at risk for some elusive stranger Hmm

Shampoo

^This because allegedly we'll all be washing our hair in washing up liquid soon Hmm I spend a fortune on my hair and would rather go without washing it all than using that muck

Though of course, we've reached the peak with milk, there's no way there's any more ridiculousness than that

I'm howling at the thought of a garibaldi eating cat though Grin
