I've seen some beautiful examples of things some commenters think are 'non-essential' and therefore people shouldn't be leaving their houses for... trawling through each thread to find them is so tiresome, will some kind MNers please share what they've seen that made them laugh?

I'll start... Newspaper, Bread, Milk

Not looking to name and shame anybody, I just want some insight into the state of things right now.

I'm just waiting for somebody to start listing off 'essential' medications. Maybe that will stop selfish people flocking off to the pharmacies to buy Germoloids finally! (That was a joke please don't kill me Grin)

Fun.Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 07/04/2020 18:07

I've bought loads of plants and two bunches of dads

Fuck em

LaurieFairyCake · 07/04/2020 18:07

DAFFS not Dads

Though I am horny Grin

Stickybeaksid · 07/04/2020 18:13

The Irish government have declared the Easter bunny an essential worker so we are all good.

SuckingDownDarjeeling · 07/04/2020 18:23

I went to Pets at Home a while ago and wanted to buy flea tablets. I was told they're only selling petfood and litter.

We'll know who to blame if covid19 is followed by BubonicPlague20

Arrowfanatic · 07/04/2020 18:28

@LaurieFairyCake a bunch of dads GrinGrin I just choked on my (essential) wine

Thighmageddon · 07/04/2020 18:30

We can't get the flea and warming treatments from our vets that we pay for on a yearly plan. They're deemed nonessential.

Thighmageddon · 07/04/2020 18:30

Worming not warming ffs.

Monsterjam · 07/04/2020 18:33

I got moaned at by someone in coop for buying icecream .... as if that’s non-essential

cologne4711 · 07/04/2020 18:34

How the fuck can cheese in your cup of tea be a replacement for milk

I don't know but there was a thread somewhere where someone said they were using cheese instead of milk!

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2020 18:37

I don't understand the logic re flea, tick and worm treatments either, why they can't be sent in the mail or the OTC ones bought.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/04/2020 18:43

Our vets is posting ours!

We're on the yearly plan

Thighmageddon · 07/04/2020 18:44

Neither do I, we've not had an email saying we don't have to pay our dd for a couple of months either which has pissed me off somewhat.

I'll send them the bill if I have to get fumigators in if the dog has fleas Grin

It is not whether the type of food you are buying is essential or not.
It is whether the actual trip to buy food or treats is essential or not.

If you are buying food that will make meals for a number of days because your supplies are running low, then add wine, chocolate or anything else you want to that shop that is an essential shop.

If you are going out to buy just a newspaper and a bar of chocolate then don't that is not an essential shop you will survive without it.

midnightstar66 · 07/04/2020 19:32

I feel even more judged buying essential items than non... feel really furtive standing in the toilet roll, flour or pasta aisle as if I'm personally responsible for denying the rest of the UK these items 😆

user1353245678533567 · 07/04/2020 19:34

Honey.

julybaby32 · 07/04/2020 19:34

Can someone check my list for me before I venture out on Friday later afternoon (the quietest time where I shop.)
Some carbohydrate (ideally bread)
some protein - enough for a portion of protein each day
a vegetable
another vegetable
maybe a third vegetable unless veg 1 and 2 are both big cauliflowers.
some milk (because the cows are going to have to be milked anyway)
some kind of wholemeal something (especially if some of the protein is eggs).
tea
Is this OK?
Too inessential?

SleepingStandingUp · 07/04/2020 19:46

Ooh today I brought Easter eggs, beer and a sticker book. I wonder if I was getting evils from a mnetter

Disclaimer : hunting down baby gaviscon in their pharmacy as no where had it andy 4 month old twins need it. I also brought baby milk and cheese and tea bags

berryhead2013 · 07/04/2020 19:50

ErrolTheDragon · 07/04/2020 19:51

Depending on the veg, you'll get scurvy.Grin

Jellycatismyspiritanimal · 07/04/2020 19:56

Minimise your shopping journeys, not what you buy when you are there.

^this! Ffs we need to keep the economy (somewhat) going as well!

SignOnTheWindow · 07/04/2020 20:06

@NZlife wow, the cheeky, nosy fucker! Congratulations on your pregnancy, btw - I hope you are coping. The hormones must be making everything feel super hard at the moment.

myfav · 07/04/2020 20:42

Easter eggs. You mustn't put those in your trolley even if you're passing them to get to your essentials.

luckylavender · 07/04/2020 20:50

@ZaraW - we have the internet but my husband wouldn't be without his daily Times
