Clapping for the NHS

This makes me cringe. The U.K. shrugged its shoulders and voted for a government which they knew decimated the NHS a few months ago.

And now people are standing on their doorsteps clapping. I think it's beyond insulting. I know we didn't all vote conservative but how patronising when NHS staff are putting their lives at risk.

Clapping in Spain is not a one off single event as mentioned by a PP.
They clap every night at 8pm and quite often break into people playing musical instruments or playing music.

The Tories ignored Exercise Cygnus and their own National Risk Register that the risk of a pandemic was high. Conservative MOs cheered when they defeated a motion that staff such as NHS workers should get a higher than 1% pay rise. They didn’t adequately prepare in January when it was becoming clearer that Covid19 was going to be serious with Hancock on record as saying in Parliament that we were adequately prepared. Johnson missing the COBRA meetings. The government ignored the opportunity to bulk buy PPE with the EU. It’s been a litany of failure.

I'm a nurse in a conservative constituency. It's ridiculous, the fireworks just piss me off more. It has turned into a who makes the most noise cares the most contest between either the local delinquents or the keep up with the Jones's types.

It certainly seems a bit 1984. Didn't the two minute hate serve a similar purpose, to redirect attention away from the government and to reduce individual thought?

I don't clap. My parents and sisters clap, but then they are hypocrites who still visit each others homes.
