I'm having one of those periods where people just seem rubbish. Inconsiderate drivers, dog walkers leaving poo all over the pavement, friends being hurt and let down by others...it's all really getting to me lately.

I'd really love to hear about things that have made you smile lately, especially acts of kindness and thoughtfulness. Help drag me back out of this misanthropy!

@Windyatthebeach your ddogs are all beautiful!

@MatildaTheCat oh that’s lovely, and your phrasing made me giggle!

I’ve just had a lovely decorator start work on my house and he helped me move a load of furniture so my DH could sleep after getting back from a work trip. And a friend I’ve never met in person (partner of a dear friend of mine) got in touch to arrange to come and visit me.

ShinyMe · 11/03/2020 18:15

I managed to get a whole custard slice in my mouth in one go earlier.

QuinoaWest · 11/03/2020 18:18

Everyone's posts on this thread are the perfect antidote to most of the news gloom around at the moment.
Thank you. Flowers

@MatildaTheCat,

So touching. Those glimpses must be very precious.
Does your Dad sometimes respond to past favourite music at all, I wonder?

@Windyatthebeach,

Oh my God, your dogs were cute enough dozing.
Even more so with their eyes open.

QuinoaWest · 11/03/2020 18:32

A quick one:

Lying amongst the usual junk mail flyers & a couple of bills on my doormat earlier: a proper handwritten, newsy, 'catch-up' letter.

Simple pleasures, but just the sight of a bright yellow envelope, with my favourite Aunt's distinctive writing, as well as knowing she'd put aside time in her nuts-busy week to sit down & bother in the first place, really cheered me up.

HerRoyalNotness · 11/03/2020 18:36

I’m starting work soon after 4yrs reaching and my lovely friends from uk and Canada have sent me a card and surprise gifts congratulating me. Women supporting women, it’s a grand thing to see.

chockaholic72 · 11/03/2020 18:41

And Shinyme wins the thread Grin. But all the others are lovely too...

YeOldeTrout · 11/03/2020 18:43

The video on Twitter of the bull getting a neck rub made me smile. Will try to link...

My 17 week old foster baby full on laughed for the first time today, they were born drug addicted and have had a tough start in life so it was a joy to hear a proper belly laugh.

Slothkin · 11/03/2020 19:56

@QuinoaWest oh my you’ve just reminded me! When packing away my books I came across a hand-written letter from my Grandma when I was a teenager I’d kept in a book she sent me before I started Uni. She passed away a couple of years ago and seeing her handwriting unexpectedly was so lovely.

mamasiz · 11/03/2020 19:57

I bought some shampoo from Lush today that’s I’ve not used since I was a student back in 2005. Just smelling brought back so many happy memories and it really made me smile! I’m currently making my favourite dinner and then I’m heading to the shower!

HindsightIs2020 · 11/03/2020 19:58

Someone gave up their seat for me on the Tube.

It was my first time out wearing my "please offer me a seat" badge, and I'd heard some horror stories of nobody caring but I'm pleased my experience was the opposite.

Wolfgirrl · 11/03/2020 20:01

I found an old holiday postcard I wrote to my class at school when i was little. It told them all about how i was sick on the plane, the taxi journey to the hotel was 'discusting' and how we couldn't find a shop when we got there. Never knew I was such an ungrateful little sod! Confused it did make me laugh though.

PenguinsOnParade · 11/03/2020 20:35

This is probably so minor to other people but was a huge thing for me today. I've been having panic attacks whenever I leave the house, to the point I've shut myself away for most of the last two weeks and have only been able to go out when DH was with me (and even then I've been struggling.)

Today I managed to walk, alone, to the supermarket and back (around a 10 min walk each way) and decided to reward myself with a small French stick, a pack of pâté and a bottle of wine. I completely demolished the bread and most of the pâté earlier and enjoying the wine now while catching up with The Walking Dead.

MinistryOfTragic · 11/03/2020 20:43

My latest MRI scan came back yesterday and confirmed I'm still in remission. I'm happy for all your happiness too. ❤️

MinistryOfTragic · 11/03/2020 20:45

@bloodywhitecat that's too awesome for words. 😍

EmmaJR1 · 11/03/2020 21:22

My almost 3 yo DS has started mimicking me and today I heard him in the car saying, "Mummy? Yes darling? Mummy, Yes Darling? Mummy? Yes Darling" like a little song.

Then he threw a dinosaur at his sisters head and when I asked him why he threw the dinosaur he bluntly told me it was a postasuchus NOT a dinosaur. 🤷🏻‍♀️

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 11/03/2020 21:36

@MinistryOfTragic that’s brilliant, well done. That’s cheered me up in itself. Flowers

bloodywhitecat · 12/03/2020 08:28

@MinistryOfTragic thank you, likewise your news made me smile!

NotSorry · 12/03/2020 11:09

I had major emergency surgery 10 days ago - got home Tuesday night to lots of get well soon cards, flowers, a tidy house, a care package from some friends and lots more - I feel very looked after

Slothkin · 12/03/2020 11:51

Bloody well done @PenguinsOnParade! I award myself a gold star for similar (yes, actual stickers I put on my calendar) so please have one from me! 🌟

feemcgee · 12/03/2020 11:54

My 11 year old DS came home from being out with friends - he was really excited because they'd spotted a very fat pigeon! Made me laugh as he's usually trying to be really cool, but the fact that things like this delight him reminds me that he's still my wee boy!

haverhill · 12/03/2020 11:59

A friend's husband is having chemotherapy and she is run off her feet and stressed to the max. A group of us from uni have all started a gossipy, rude and hilarious WhatsApp group which we use to keep her laughing and positive.

haverhill · 12/03/2020 12:01

Aaah, feemcgee, my 12 year old is like that too! Yesterday he did a happy little dance about something when he thought no-one could see. Grin

Windyatthebeach · 12/03/2020 13:11

Collected ddogs ashes from the vet last night.
She is finally back home.
Did smile among the tears honestly!

cheesegrate · 12/03/2020 13:38

Aww this thread is just what I needed! The more I hear on the news the more my anxiety has been skyrocketing, and this has just calmed me right down and made me laugh, so thank you.
