Posting for traffic. Can I get your podcast recommendations. I’ve been listening to true crime podcasts like Someone knows something, Serial and s.town. But need something a bit more lighthearted

Lighthearted but still murdery - Sinisterhood / My Favourite Murder

Just bloody lovely - dispatch from a friend

Pure, clever, touching, marshmallow fluff - Mystery Show

stayingontherail · 25/02/2020 19:47

Also here to say shagged married annoyed - very funny and a bit gross (if you like toilet humour, you’ll like this Grin)

TinyTimsCrutch · 25/02/2020 19:51

Redhanded is my absolute favourite.
If you want something silly, private parts is good.
The high low is a favourite too however they are on mat leave for another month or so.
The guardian do a quick 30 minute one each day which is really interesting too. Cant remember the name sorry I'm sure google could help though.
I've listened to some of the other suggestions too which are good as well

I have 12 hours a week at work where I listen to podcasts so get through a lot!

Shoxfordian · 25/02/2020 20:06

Dear Prudence is an advice column with some really interesting problems. Sometimes very funny

Another recommendation for My Favourite Murder

Generation Why is good if you like murders too

Destinysdaughter · 25/02/2020 20:07

Chart music. Is bloody hilarious!

Abelino · 25/02/2020 20:09

I listen to far too many podcasts, these are my favourites:

Judge John Hodgman - lighthearted domestic disputes

Beef & Dairy Network Podcast - comedy series about the beef & dairy community (you have to listen to this one from the start, the story grows; it's very silly)

My Mate Bought A Toaster - a different comedian each week goes through their Amazon purchase history

Scam Goddess - true crime, but about scams only. The host is hilarious, and each episode she tells a different comedian-type person about a famous scam (the heiress and the McDonald's monopoly ones are fantastic).

Stuff You Should Know - My overall favourite podcast. Over a thousand episodes, the hosts just explain a different subject each episode and they cover everything; science, crime, culture, history. You can just scroll until you find something that interests you.

And if you have favourite TV series', there'll probably be a podcast about it. There are official ones for things like Better Call Saul and The Good Place, and fan-made ones for things like Frasier.

Puppylucky · 25/02/2020 20:11

Adam Buxton is great - funny and interesting with good guests

TawnyPippit · 25/02/2020 20:12

The Missing Cryptoqueen (from BBC sounds) is excellent - strongly recommend. I’ve just finished Fake Heiress also from BBC Sounds which was ok but not as good. Love Fortunately with Fi and Jane.

Audiobooks from the library. Mine uses BorrowBox. You download the app. Then sign in with your library card number and PIN number. Then download the books. It's easy. And much better than RB which is what I used before. I love an audio book.

I'd also recommend unfortunately with fi glover and Jane Garvey. Always a good listen and giggle.

Tailenders

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 25/02/2020 20:24

Kermode & Mayo's film review, which is excellent, even if you never watch films (I never watch films) Most of the back catalogue is available online, so you'd have MONTHS of listening to two best friends take the piss out of each other whilst pretending to talk about films.

I'm really into cricket, so will listen to anything related to it, but Tailenders is my favourite. Really, really silly, and the first few episodes are all over the place, but now I save up each new episode as a super special treat because I know I will laugh until I cry at some ridiculous comment one of them will come out with.

Not sure if it's still available, but Colin Murray did a series called 'At Home with...' which was really interesting.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 25/02/2020 20:25

@JulietTango Go well!

TinyTimsCrutch · 25/02/2020 20:37

Greenpolkadot · 25/02/2020 20:50

I sound really dim here but what exactly is a podcast. How do I listen to it and where do I find them

PineappleDanish · 25/02/2020 21:00

Podcast used be called audioblogs and that sums it up better. It's a spoken word show, or blog, on any subject under the sun. You download them to your phone, or listen online. Free.

Stop and start them whenever you like, perfect for walks or listening to on the car radio if you have bluetooth.

My phone has a "podcasts" icon which takes you to a page where you can browse and download.
