My neighbours awkward parking

Thelonewolf · 17/02/2020 18:46

New neighbours moved in second half of last year.
I don’t know if they’re being CF or entitled millennials.
They have 2 cars and a drive, I also have 2 cars and a drive. However they don’t use their drive and park on the street which they’re perfectly entitled to do, I don’t own the street in front of my house however they park in such away that I am unable to park in front of my house without blocking my drive and then I can’t get the other car out. We also pay for residents parking permits so I would at least like to be able to park in front of my house lols.
I’ve mentioned it to them but it’s fallen on deaf ears. Jokingly asked if I could use their drive seeing as they don’t use it.
I’ve got 2 small children and have to park opposite as that’s the only space left on the street. The road is very busy at rush hour and cars fly down the street as it’s used as a cut through.
First world problems eh 🤪

Well sell one car and problem solved surely?

SerendipitySunshine · 17/02/2020 20:36

So why not leave one car on your drive all the time (and sorn it,) if you want to keep it, and block your own drive with the other one, and only use that one?

Thelonewolf · 17/02/2020 20:38

It’s apparently illegal to block my own drive 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was being sarcastic

No you were being rude and judgemental.

Just because you have 2 cars doesnt mean you need to constantly swap between them. What a ridiculous problem that you have created for yourself.

StoorieHoose · 17/02/2020 20:43

Why do you be really selfish and as soon as the space in front of your house is free part one or your cars in that space and just keep using the one car which you can park on your drive ?

category12 · 17/02/2020 20:45

So sell a car. You don't need two. They'll be costing you in insurance and road tax.

Plus it's bloody annoying of you to have more cars than you need and then complain you can't park them.

thegreekgoddessofcheese · 17/02/2020 20:48

If there's only one of you then I don't understand why you'd need to swap your cars over. Do you have a weekend and midweek vehicle?! Why can't you park the one you don't use on the other side of the road, and the one you do use on your drive?

And why haven't you posted a diagram yet? Grin

MsJaneAusten · 17/02/2020 20:49

Bloody hell. This is such an easy problem to solve: sell one car.

Thelonewolf · 17/02/2020 20:49

@DontTouchTheMoustache - Woah, I genuinely meant it in jest.
I apologise if you read it differently.

This thread reminds me of a neighbor I had at one point who had her workmen put her skip in front of my house instead of hers and then complained that my guests were parking in front of her house instead of mine. And couldn't seem to understand that they weren't parking in front of mine because her skip was there. In addition we both had drives large enough to accommodate 3 cars and there is absolutely no shortage of street parking. Some people (you, OP) will complain about the silliest things.

TheTrollFairy · 17/02/2020 20:49

So you are a 1 adult house and you have 2 cars and you aren’t sure how to sort the problem Hmm

RedRed9 · 17/02/2020 20:50
  1. Sell the unused car.

  2. Diagram!

Whynosnowyet · 17/02/2020 20:51

My neighbour pays for a permit and parks outside her ndn as parking outside her own window isn't allowed. Blocks her light...Shock
She also owns a fucking carpark at the side of her house..
That she keeps locked and empty....
Confused

cultkid · 17/02/2020 20:52

My neighbours do this to me every single day and I feel your pain
I've asked them multiple times nicely and they haven't addressed it

It is selfish

Wilmalovescake · 17/02/2020 20:54

Just when I think this place couldn’t get any more batshit.

One person, two cars.

Ridiculous.

SciFiScream · 17/02/2020 20:54

I realise you are driving both cars to keep them working (stop the battery dying and the brakes sticking) but it's not sustainable to keep 2. Are you able to sell one?

Just talk to your neighbours about it. They maybe haven't realised.

JassyRadlett · 17/02/2020 20:56

Most councils have explicit exemption from parking control if the dropped kerb you’re parking over is your own driveway.

Vanhi · 17/02/2020 20:56

I’m a one adult household, both cars are mine

I'm sorry about your mother, but really you can solve this problem by selling one of the cars.

SonjaMorgan · 17/02/2020 20:57

@Thelonewolf sorry to hear about your mum.

TomeOfSomething · 17/02/2020 20:58

why do you have 2 cars?

IamaBluebird · 17/02/2020 21:01

@Thelonewolf, I'm sorry to hear about your mum. Hope you manage to sort the cars out soon.

BigFatLiar · 17/02/2020 21:03

Wait till they drive off and move one of your car's to the spot in front of your house.

lollybee1 · 17/02/2020 21:04

You're the one that sounds entitled. It is really odd to me that people think they have some kind priority to park directly outside their house.

Thelonewolf · 17/02/2020 21:05

Unfortunately I’m not in a position to be able to sell one of them. I would if could.
It’s difficult mentioning it to my neighbours as they’re well within their rights to park on the street.
They don’t have to use their drive.

Why can't you sell one?
