My neighbours awkward parking

Thelonewolf · 17/02/2020 18:46

New neighbours moved in second half of last year.
I don’t know if they’re being CF or entitled millennials.
They have 2 cars and a drive, I also have 2 cars and a drive. However they don’t use their drive and park on the street which they’re perfectly entitled to do, I don’t own the street in front of my house however they park in such away that I am unable to park in front of my house without blocking my drive and then I can’t get the other car out. We also pay for residents parking permits so I would at least like to be able to park in front of my house lols.
I’ve mentioned it to them but it’s fallen on deaf ears. Jokingly asked if I could use their drive seeing as they don’t use it.
I’ve got 2 small children and have to park opposite as that’s the only space left on the street. The road is very busy at rush hour and cars fly down the street as it’s used as a cut through.
First world problems eh 🤪

Sorry, you don't own the road, even if you do have permitted parking. Anyone with a permit can park wherever they like on the street. Even if they're not using their own driveway.

yes, it's annoying. Yes, it frequently causes problems for people trying to find space. But they're well within their rights to do it.

category12 · 17/02/2020 20:06

If you have two cars, presumably there are two driving adults in the household. Why would you be leaving small children in the house (oh noes!) alone to move the cars? Surely one of you could move cars, and one supervise said small children.

Lifesabeach86 · 17/02/2020 20:09

Can't have a parking thread OP without a diagram! Grin

JKScot4 · 17/02/2020 20:09

Is one of the cars your DPs? or are both yours?

Sirzy · 17/02/2020 20:10

Assuming they have permits for both then there is nothing you can do. It annoys me when people don’t use the drive when they have one but it’s no compulsory to do so

WiddlinDiddlin · 17/02/2020 20:11

I'd just like to point out, you can't park over a dropped kerb. No matter whether it's yours or whoevers, once a kerb is dropped you cannot park over it or obstruct it.

LiveFatsDieYoGnu · 17/02/2020 20:13

YABU for the millennial bullshit if nothing else.

Cohle · 17/02/2020 20:17

"Entitled millennials"? Hmm

You don't own the road in front of your house, even if you pay for a permit. You're the one being entitled.

Bunnyfuller · 17/02/2020 20:22

No diagram and a not very juicy parking thread.

Very disappointing

Thelonewolf · 17/02/2020 20:24

I’m a one adult household, both cars are mine 😬

SonjaMorgan · 17/02/2020 20:26

I park on the street and not on our drive. There isn't enough spaces for everyone as nextdoor has 3 cars. It regularly causes drama as nextdoor can't parallel park and has to park up the street and then get her husband to park it later. Maybe I am entitled and unneighbourly but it means there is space for family and friends when visiting and it also means delivery people (mainly the food shop) can use our drive and don't have to walk down the street.

category12 · 17/02/2020 20:27

Well get rid of one - why do you need two?!

Thelonewolf · 17/02/2020 20:28

@LiveFatsDieYoGnu @cohle - I was being sarcastic 😂

OP posts:
Nanna50 · 17/02/2020 20:29

I’m a one adult household, both cars are mine 😬

Well just use the one on the road instead of swapping over.

But yes, it would be nice if they used their drive, less inconvenience for you, unless their drive is tricky to get on and off.

StoorieHoose · 17/02/2020 20:30

Entitled millennials but you have 2 cars? Ok boomer. There is only one person being entitled here

JKScot4 · 17/02/2020 20:31

Why do you need 2 cars and be swapping them? I don’t think it’s your neighbours who are entitled.

Thelonewolf · 17/02/2020 20:32

@SonjaMorgan - that makes sense

OP posts:
adaline · 17/02/2020 20:33

Why does it really matter if you block your own drive?

It's illegal to park across a dropped kerb, even if it's yours.

Sirzy · 17/02/2020 20:34

Why do you need two cars?

SerendipitySunshine · 17/02/2020 20:34

Why do you need to swap between two cars?

DowntownAbby · 17/02/2020 20:34

YANBU.

But you'll get torn to shreds on here OP.

Thelonewolf · 17/02/2020 20:34

@category12, @stooriehoose and @jscot4 - I have 2 cars because one of them belonged to my mum who died last year

OP posts:
FixTheBone · 17/02/2020 20:35

I voted YANBU.

Then I read you have two cars, just for you.

YABVVVVVVVU

StoorieHoose · 17/02/2020 20:36

Sell one of the cars and use the money to make the whole front of your house one big drive.

Chewbecca · 17/02/2020 20:36

Why are you swapping the cars?

YABU because they are equally as entitled as you to park outside your house.
