Sorry, another Philip Schofield one...

I really couldn't care less about Philip Schofield's sexuality (or anyone else's) and good for him for finally being true to himself. But what makes me quite cross is all this talk of honesty and bravery, and the self-indulgent, tortured confessional in front of the nation when really it's of no importance to anyone who doesn't know him personally.

In the clip of his chat with Holly he asks repeatedly, "When is the right time?" In my opinion, the right time is before you get married to someone who believes you are straight. It's not brave, or honest, to make someone unwittingly provide you with the benefits of a heterosexual relationship, including children, so you can be viewed by the public as a "respectable family man". It's actually rather selfish.

I had a brief relationship with someone who I later discovered was gay. He didn't even have the balls to tell me directly, and it seriously screwed me up for a long time. I can't imagine what it must be like to find out your husband of 27 years is homosexual.

I'm not gay, so perhaps I am being unreasonable as I don't know what it is like to come out to friends and family (although I imagine it is easier now than it was thirty years ago) and I don't know whether PS really believed that he was in love with his wife when they got married. But I do think that leaving a duplicitous life which affects other people is not a kind or honourable thing to do and I feel very sorry for his wife and daughters who I think really have been brave.

This is incredibly disturbing if a link is proven:

Bloody hell Mum Shock

DandyDuchess · 15/02/2020 00:20

That twitter rabbit hole makes very chilling reading.

If Holly, Ruth and Eamon know even a quarter of what appears to be alleged, shame on the them for colluding in the coverup. Holly pointing out that it’s important to say he wasn’t forced to make the statement ... Angry

MadeForThis · 15/02/2020 00:36

Very worrying.

GlitterToast · 15/02/2020 01:25

I'm not really a fan of HW et al., but we shouldn't punish them for crimes they haven't committed. If the allegations surrounding PS are true, then it is PS that needs to be punished. Let's not blame the women.

SisterAgatha · 15/02/2020 05:25

Holly appears to have enabled him, woman or not. Ruth however, I would never blame. I believe that she attempted to blow the whistle on this when she made the complaint last year. She got it in the papers at least, which is some dated and documented proof that PS had been at the very least bullying his colleagues, and had fallen out professionally and personally with his previously close friend MM.

Just read blind gossip!

Expo · 15/02/2020 08:18

Yes blind gossip implies that the truth will all come out

Hairydilemma · 15/02/2020 08:22

Holly pointing out that it’s important to say he wasn’t forced to make the statement

DandyDuchess I’ve said this on another thread, but at the time that’s what I thought was oddest about the whole statement.

And obviously since, it seemed even odder as it looked quite quickly like it wasn’t the case at all.

Why proactively include something which could be refuted? Everything else that potentially be shown to be untrue (‘have you had relationships with men’ etc) was sidestepped. Seemed like a bit of a PR fail to include it, though presumably they had their reasons. Maybe just over-confident that the story would end with his announcement?

happinessischocolate · 15/02/2020 08:34

Who is Sleazy? James Franco

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/02/2020 08:35

I wonder if that's one of the reasons Fern Britton wasn't on good terms with him if she knew this was going on and why he insisted HW was his new partner on TM?

Henlie · 15/02/2020 09:22

I’ve just read Blind Gossip too......if what they are predicting is going to happen does happen then my money is on PS not returning to TM after half term week. I bet they issue some statement saying that PS has decided to take time off to spend with his family.......

lolawasashowgirl · 15/02/2020 09:32

I've noticed that he's removed his original message from Instagram. Have just read Blind Gossip too - doesn't pull any punches!

rainbowcase · 15/02/2020 09:35

I've noticed that he's removed his original message from Instagram.

His coming out statement?

If so then it was only posted on his story so would naturally disappear in 24 hours.

HeartburnHetty · 15/02/2020 09:36

Just waiting for a paps pic of Fern, Ruth and Amanda H having coffee together. The only 3 people who seem to have any dignity from this whole charade. Though Ruth lost it a bit by the whole sofa thing last week

lolawasashowgirl · 15/02/2020 09:38

Ahh I see @rainbowcase!

Xanthangum · 15/02/2020 09:42

Five minutes googling of 2 Faced theatre companies gives me the following:

  1. They were proud of their association with PS
  1. They were served several notices for being struck off between 2011 and 2018: beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/06523095/filing-history
  1. They closed quite suddenly in 2018 without any proper explanation
  1. Two of the shareholders also run a Plastics Business: www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/business/business-news/plastics-direct-buys-vulcan-business-863201
Probably nothing weird about that last one - they probably put up the initial capital. But they dont seem to have been careful about running the business well.

More questions than answers...

Was the company really called 2 Faced? That's more than a little ironic 🙄

BeyondReasonablyDoubtsLots · 15/02/2020 09:59

There are two ways I think you can interpret Holly's "you weren't pushed" comment - either way though, I don't think the question was in the script.

1 - Holly is a bit dim and thought it was important to point out that there was no outside influence, not realising that asking it at all made it clear that there was.

2 - Holly knows everything thinks she is a bit dim, and that despite indirecting pointing out that there was an outside influence, she'd be able to get away with everyone thinking it was (1), hence her career is safe.

rainbowcase · 15/02/2020 10:04

Holly is more glove puppet than the gopher. She is told to say so she says. She was given a script to read without question so she did. I don't think she had any say in whether or not she read it or what it said.

NumbersStation · 15/02/2020 10:05

I really don’t think Ruth (and Eamonn) got any choice about the hugs and sofa moment. Ruth’s body language told you she’d rather be eating shite.

I’d love to see the 3 of them chatting away over a coffee. It would say it all.

This 100%

Henlie · 15/02/2020 10:15

I’m interested to see if the next issue of Private Eye (18/2) says anything about PS. Iain Hislop et al are normally bang on the money.

Private Eye kind of exposed PS back in November 2012, saying he was up up to all sorts then (although not as seemingly serious). Something will have to break soon....this seems to have been going on for a longtime.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 15/02/2020 10:16

I need to watch TM just for Ruth's reaction!
