Sorry, another Philip Schofield one...

I really couldn't care less about Philip Schofield's sexuality (or anyone else's) and good for him for finally being true to himself. But what makes me quite cross is all this talk of honesty and bravery, and the self-indulgent, tortured confessional in front of the nation when really it's of no importance to anyone who doesn't know him personally.

In the clip of his chat with Holly he asks repeatedly, "When is the right time?" In my opinion, the right time is before you get married to someone who believes you are straight. It's not brave, or honest, to make someone unwittingly provide you with the benefits of a heterosexual relationship, including children, so you can be viewed by the public as a "respectable family man". It's actually rather selfish.

I had a brief relationship with someone who I later discovered was gay. He didn't even have the balls to tell me directly, and it seriously screwed me up for a long time. I can't imagine what it must be like to find out your husband of 27 years is homosexual.

I'm not gay, so perhaps I am being unreasonable as I don't know what it is like to come out to friends and family (although I imagine it is easier now than it was thirty years ago) and I don't know whether PS really believed that he was in love with his wife when they got married. But I do think that leaving a duplicitous life which affects other people is not a kind or honourable thing to do and I feel very sorry for his wife and daughters who I think really have been brave.

Riv Ferne discussed that in the column she had in Red magazine last year. She seems more down to earth. and i think she had long grown out of Celebrity Juice.

Riv12345 · 10/02/2020 23:08

Yeah I agree
Fern seem so down to earth
I keep trying to like holly but........hmmm

OhioOhioOhio · 10/02/2020 23:10

CaveMum

That's so funny.

AnneOfTeenFables · 10/02/2020 23:20

I liked Holly when she was friends with Ferne too but Holly has seemed very different/fake/false since she's been PS' presenting partner.

HangingOffYourCloud · 10/02/2020 23:20

I've been wondering why Holly came in on her day off to interview Schofe and am wondering if Eamonn and Ruth refused to do it?

HangingOffYourCloud · 10/02/2020 23:23

Also, IRL the people I have spoken to have all said "his poor wife", not a single "brave" to be seen. Plus many people who don't read gossip like me are wondering if there is something amiss going on behind the scenes that is being covered up, hence the big reveal.

Riv12345 · 10/02/2020 23:23

I still think Ruth knows something we don't

Riv12345 · 10/02/2020 23:27

Definitely something was going on!!

Why get holly to interview him as well

When it's Ruth and Eamonns show on a Friday it's like they quickly needed to make the announcement

Wigglewhooooop · 10/02/2020 23:32

**Here is Perez Hilton's vlog from today

And what he said about Schofield

HeIenaDove · 10/02/2020 23:51

a. the way Kim Woodburn was treated on LW

Ant.

The Jeremy Kyle debacle and suicide of guest. ITV has turned into a bit of a cesspit.

NutEIIaFitzgerald · 11/02/2020 00:56

Really they should all opt for the Lorraine Kelly defence.
The Philip Schofield on TV is a straight, happily-married character he plays.

Grin That is the post of the day

SpanishFly · 11/02/2020 08:23

This is freaky, how all tweets/videos etc are vanishing from the internet. This whole thing stinks. How are they getting away with this?!

AndThenThereWereSeven
I too don't understand that post Blush

yolofish · 11/02/2020 11:12

I think, when Lorraine was being investigated for tax purposes, she said something like "Lorraine on the TV" was an acting role and not actually her. Not sure how it made a difference to her tax affairs though.

AndThenThereWereSeven · 11/02/2020 11:27

@yolofish - ahh, thank you!

thetoddleratemyhomework · 11/02/2020 12:12

@yolofish

I think it worked because the premise of the case against her was that she was actually an employee of ITV as she really only had one gig, so that shouldn't be paying her through a company (on which she and ITV would pay less tax). She successfully argued (though I don't think it is clear cut) that she wasn't an employee because she wasn't being paid simply to present a show at ITV's direction but rather they were paying for a persona that she had developed and that was her own independent creation. She was more a self employed actor.

yolofish · 11/02/2020 12:15

nice work if you can get it! toddler

HuskyloverI · 11/02/2020 12:30

I didn't like him before all of this : thought he was awful to some of the guests.

But after this charade, I actually hate him with a passion.

Describing himself as "brave", when all he has done is to lie to his wife for 27 years, and now he will drop her like a stone to ride off into the sunset with some bloke. How the fuck is that brave?

His wife has not only lost 27 years of her life (she will be forever wondering what bits were real), she's also lost her future, as (presuming she was happy), she must have thought that they would grow old together.

She must feel even more betrayed by Holly and crew, who have publicly sided with Philip.

Philip is so self absorbed, I actually had to switch the interview off, it's all about meeeeeee

What was the Joan Collins thing?

Dowser · 11/02/2020 12:44

Husky lover..if I remember accurately Perez Hilton said something about inappropriateness
And Joan Collins kept asking what that was all about..till she got shut down
It’s all on tattle life
Read all about it on there

emilybrontescorsett · 11/02/2020 12:54

I wish people would stop calling him brave.
He has comitted adultery he is anything but brave.
Also it does t matter if Steph knew before he announced it to the world. I am willing to bet that she did not know before they were married.
Do people seriously think that PS said to her by the way, I am gay. I want to have sex with men and very young ones at that. I won’t stay faithful to you I will cheat. You are simply my beard. I want to marry you because you add an air of respectability to me. If I don’t enter into a relationship with a woman, my career Will take a tumble.
The fact that she didn’t immediately pack her stuff up and walk out on him and her children the minute he confessed , does not mean she condones his behaviour.
She is probably struggling to cope with all this crap her ‘loving ‘ husband has thrown at her door.
I have zero respect for him.
It smacks of Barrymore and MJ to me. Sickening.

Theromanempire · 11/02/2020 12:58

So, I have just watched the Spitting Image sketch about PS and JD not being gay together when the opposite appears to have been a 'known' secret from that time Hmm

Love that Spitting Image were clearly hinting at it all those years ago!

TooleyVanDooley · 11/02/2020 12:59

Bearding arrangements in the entertainment industry are as old as time. We have no idea what his wife knew when, but you can’t just dismiss the possibility that she knew before they married. Especially as it seems that plenty of other people knew.

HuskyloverI · 11/02/2020 13:02

Thanks Dowser

I think people are so afraid of being called Homophobic, that they jump on the sycophantic band wagon. The gushing comments on Facebook were ridiculous, with some people saying they had tears rolling down their faces at his bravery. Fuck off!

If PS had announced that he had decided he would rather fuck young women than his wife, he'd be the villain of the piece. Want to fuck men young enough to be your son though....Hoorah!!

And fwiw, PS has since admitted in an interview that he knew he was gay before he got married. What a fucking lying twat.

His poor wife. Used as a beard and she is now disposable.

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 11/02/2020 13:17

She's not dead, but she has committed cold-blooded murder on a carefully crafted PR campaign

Go for it, Joan. Grin
