To refuse to send my child to a pirate party

Mashbocking1 · 08/02/2020 15:03

A nursery friend of my 4 yo DS is having a pirate themed birthday party. I’m planning to decline the invite as I don’t think it’s appropriate for little children, or anyone for that matter, to dress up as a pirate - it’s glorifying and sentimentalising criminal men who raped, robbed and murdered.

FFS, piracy used to carry the death penalty until recently! You wouldn’t let your child go to a Nazi themed party - I can’t see much difference!

I wouldnt let my child dress up as a lion because they kill people and other animals and are violent. I wouldnt let them dress as a witch because it glorifies magic and witches cast bad spells on people. Get a grip OP

If it's good enough for Prince Charles...

Harry wasn't it? (Pre Sparkle of course!!).

XXcstatic · 08/02/2020 15:39

@DaveGrohlsMuse - that is brilliant - has made my afternoon Smile

Dahlietta · 08/02/2020 15:40

Yes, Prince Charles is his dad... Wink

I am outraged at your bigoted opinions of pirates OP. My great great great grandfather 3 times removed was a pirate - they are a much maligned people by history. Your terrible views show your ignorance and bigotry (#sarcasm btw).

MyDcAreMarvel · 08/02/2020 15:40

It's sad that your child misses out because you are batshit crazy.

OMG! My children were bought Pop Up Pirate for Christmas! WIBU to return it with a stern telling off for giving them such an inappropriate gift?

Maybe we should start a petition to force Tomy to recall all of the Pop Up Pirate games sold since it was introduced in 1975? OP you've just ruined my childhood! Sad

Fun sponge

XXcstatic · 08/02/2020 15:41

dont go to Brixham 2nd May then pissed up pirates everywhere

Mis-read this as Brixton, and was surprised/confused Grin

PhilCornwall1 · 08/02/2020 15:41

@Dahlietta Ah, I see what you were doing there. I'm a tad slow today.Confused

FrangipaniBlue · 08/02/2020 15:41

I didnt allow my kids to play with guns and my GC don't either. I don't see that the same in any way as dressing up as pirates. Guns kill now and many look real.

This is up there among the most ridiculous statements I've read on MN.

Of course it's the same, guns and swords (erm, and pirate CANONS!) are all bloody weapons Confused

Jeezus wept.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 08/02/2020 15:41

Maybe you should teach those uneducated mothers a lesson and send your kid to the party with a pillory platform and some rotten fruit? He could put all his little 4 year old friends in the stocks and throw rotten fruit at them, shouting 'Shame,Shame!'

Bwahaha. I can see her son’s response now...as the OP pulls the shaming costume out. ‘Aww mum...not again”

lazylinguist · 08/02/2020 15:41

I never normally spot trolls or wind-ups, but this is 100% a wind-up. OP's username doesn't show up on any other threads and is a spoonerism of 'bash mocking'. Grin

CakeandCustard28 · 08/02/2020 15:41

Hmm. What a fun paren you must be. Grin Get a life OP!

june2007 · 08/02/2020 15:42

I had a pirate themed party. The children had a treasure hunt, and we made hats. and had a chocolate cake. Also one reason some of the pirates in somali turn to Piracy is due to over fishing by the chinease pushing them out of business. No it,s not good but it,s survival.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 08/02/2020 15:42

To err is human.
To 'arr' is pirate.

Episcomama · 08/02/2020 15:43

Shit. I was about to invite your kid to my Pol Pot Lego party this year.

PMSL!

Davros · 08/02/2020 15:43

Do we have to stop Adam and the Ants and Bow Wow Wow being shown on old TOTPs? Someone tell Dame Vivienne Westwood

ifeeltheneedtheneedforsleep · 08/02/2020 15:43

😂😂😂😂 sorry but that's pathetic! I pity the life your kids are going to have!

simonisnotme · 08/02/2020 15:43

there might be pirates in Brixton you never know Grin

oncemorewithfeeling99 · 08/02/2020 15:43

This is a bit like saying you won’t let your 4yrd own dress as a a superhero because you don’t agree with vigilante violence.

Real pirates were and are bad but pirate dressing up is about as similar to that as batman is to vigilante mobs who attack old men’s homes who they wrongly think are a child molester.

YasssKween · 08/02/2020 15:43

So i expect you’d all be fine with your kids getting dressed up in Nazi uniforms too!

It's so grossly offensive that you're using this as an analogy.

Would you let one of your kids dress up as a king? English rulers have done some terrible things over the years.
An explorer? They've stolen and damaged native land across the world.
A cowboy? They shot "Indians".
A Disney princess? Offensive to women as they are such stereotypes.

You can make an argument against so many things but some of them are hilariously ridiculous.

Using the nazi card makes you more of a wrongen than anyone else here because they have the critical thinking to understand the difference.

I'd say you were a fun sponge but I'm actually quite enjoying this thread Grin

On that note I'm pretty fucked off that all my pirate jokes have already been told on here. You can all walk the plank you bastards.

BarbedBloom · 08/02/2020 15:44

I totally agree. Best to be careful. I wouldn't let my niece go to a party as a witch. Always expect the Spanish inquisition.
