To refuse to send my child to a pirate party

Mashbocking1 · 08/02/2020 15:03

A nursery friend of my 4 yo DS is having a pirate themed birthday party. I’m planning to decline the invite as I don’t think it’s appropriate for little children, or anyone for that matter, to dress up as a pirate - it’s glorifying and sentimentalising criminal men who raped, robbed and murdered.

FFS, piracy used to carry the death penalty until recently! You wouldn’t let your child go to a Nazi themed party - I can’t see much difference!

Bloody hell, what a fun sponge...

Isaura · 09/02/2020 18:04

How ridiculous, political correctness at its worst. You can see that 98% do not agree with you. Let yiyrmmmmmmmm

LaraLondon1 · 09/02/2020 18:05

Good luck explaining to your poor child why they can’t go . You’re way too serious 🙄

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 09/02/2020 18:05

C'mon everyone, join in the singalong!

Louise122 · 09/02/2020 18:07

You're clearly mentally ill

Graciew137 · 09/02/2020 18:08

This is the type of narrow minded post that gives us all a bad name, I think you'll find some pirates were female!🤣🤣

Lou12124 · 09/02/2020 18:11

That poor kid. Who is exactly that...a KID! I remember we loved playing cops and robbers....didnt mean I was going to go out murdering and thieving from people as an adult because I played it when I was a kid. Just let the child go to the party...if you sense signs of them going to rape or whatever when you get back from the party then you know you need to step in 🙄 so ridiculous.

Taxanimal · 09/02/2020 18:14

YABU.

Get real

Wheresthetimegone · 09/02/2020 18:14

This is the funniest thing I’ve read in ages.
More laughs than a week away with my girlfriends and they’re known for the craic !!!
Was this actually intended as a serious AIBU post ????

Manchestermanchester · 09/02/2020 18:14

You sound like a barrel of fun, not.

As an adult I have no idea what pirates really are.

londonrach · 09/02/2020 18:15

Seriously!!!! Your poor children. You normally this strange

Palma1 · 09/02/2020 18:16

R u for real 😳

Pinkerbells · 09/02/2020 18:17

I actually feel sorry for how much your child will miss out on if this is the case, captain pugwash, Jack sparrow, most kids programmes have a least one episode involving pirates. And where on earth do you stop your views from influencing your child? For example, Can't watch iron man as he arms terrorists in the beginning!

NeverForgetYourDreams · 09/02/2020 18:17
Hmm
restingbitchface30 · 09/02/2020 18:18

Sat here hungover, very glad I came across this! Some hilarious comments! But seriously op get a life!

vampirethriller · 09/02/2020 18:18

I watched Muppets Treasure Island today. Cracking film but not enough Kermit.

Oxfordnono12 · 09/02/2020 18:19

This has to be a joke!!

Kateguide · 09/02/2020 18:21

Where are you OP? must be a troll. No one can be this bat shit crazy.
If OP is real, stop projecting your craziness onto your son.

JerryGiraffe · 09/02/2020 18:22

There seem to be two possibilities here. Either you are a troll who is bored and wanting to stir up a bit of debate on a boring day, or you are absolutely crackers. If it is the latter I really would recommend you get over yourself. It's a children's party for goodness sake. How on earth do you cope with halloween or easter. Does the Easter bunny somehow glorify violence because of the crucifixion?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 09/02/2020 18:22

I watched Muppets Treasure Island today. Cracking film but not enough Kermit.

That's my favorite Muppet movie. I think Christmas carol and Treasure island had Kermit as secondary characters because they were the first two movies to come out post Henson Death and Whitmere was worried about taking the role over.
Rowlf wouldn't get a voice for many years.

HughGrantsHair · 09/02/2020 18:23

Better tell your children's school not to do a Pirate theme topic then. They love Pirate themes in reception/year 1 and 2!

bellocchild · 09/02/2020 18:25

Privateers were actually legalised pirates...

iklboo · 09/02/2020 18:25

RTFT people. It's a troll who had been banned. MNHQ have left the thread up for pirate puns and nautical nonsense. Grin

PhoneTwattery · 09/02/2020 18:25

Is it possible to be so woke that it actually hurts?

vampirethriller · 09/02/2020 18:27

@CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost that would explain it. Kermit is my favourite. I know he's not real he's definitely real but he's a great role model in all his films!
