To refuse to send my child to a pirate party

A nursery friend of my 4 yo DS is having a pirate themed birthday party. I’m planning to decline the invite as I don’t think it’s appropriate for little children, or anyone for that matter, to dress up as a pirate - it’s glorifying and sentimentalising criminal men who raped, robbed and murdered.

FFS, piracy used to carry the death penalty until recently! You wouldn’t let your child go to a Nazi themed party - I can’t see much difference!

Aaaaaaalmonds (does that work??)

Gogolego · 08/02/2020 17:32

So what about if they want to watch Peter Pan or Pirates Caribbean?

Yabu and PFB, give your head a wobble and here's a grip.

FWIW I come from a part of a country where a lot of touristy attractions are based on pirates. And the local rugby team is the Pirates. In fact there's a whole
Opera based on it.

"To err is human, to arrrr is pirate"

Clearly its a wind up but it made me smile as i recalled a few years ago on holiday in Cornwall and childminding some friends two year old. We took him to the beach .It was a lovely day and we set up a small tent for shade and a blanket . Well he was straight off ,running around looking for imaginary pirates ,doing his best impersonations and occasionally being distracted from his hunt by exploring rock pools and paddling. Great fun. No idea how he made the automatic link of the seaside with pirates,,maybe from one of his learn to read story books back home ?

You can’t see much difference between a pirate themed party and a Nazi themed party. What planet are you on? YABVU. Let your child go to the party and have some fun FFS.

firstimemamma · 08/02/2020 17:40

Yabu. It's just a party! A bit of fun.

My 1 and a half year old attended a lovely, lovely Dear Zoo themed party. I suppose I shouldn't have taken him to that either, as zoos are cruel, inhumane places...

Dhalandchips · 08/02/2020 17:40

I pirate walks into a bar with a paper towel on his head. The bartender says, "What's with the paper towel?".

The pirate says "Arrrr. I've got a Bounty on me head".
