What contraception do you use?

What contraception do you use and do you rate it? I’m on the combined pill (microgynon) and tempted to come off it and just use condoms as so sick of all the artificial hormones and bloating. Thanks

That's the pill I used I got on well with it. If I wasn't going to have any contraception other than condoms I would probably purchase the ava bracelet.

Bonsaigem · 30/01/2020 09:34

Whatever you do, NEVER USE THE DEPO INJECTION. It is AWFUL!

alifelived · 30/01/2020 09:39

@Bonsaigem agreed totally. It’s hellish

honeyloops · 30/01/2020 09:39

I have the Mirena IUD. I love it - no side effects for me.

okiedokieme · 30/01/2020 09:40

@honeyloops

How long did it take to settle down. I'm on my first period since having it and it's lasted twice as long as normal and counting!

apples24 · 30/01/2020 09:41

I've got kyleena coil, happy with it.

Hoohaahoo · 30/01/2020 09:42

I agree with the injection, thought I was having a nervous breakdown!
Dh had the snip a while back so we don’t use anything.

Caramel78 · 30/01/2020 09:42

@Bonsaigem what did you find bad about it? My GP was trying to push me to get it but I’ve heard horror stories

Was just about to suggest the depo injection and then I seen two other posters advice against it 🤣. Personally I've been on it for 10 years and it's been absolutely fine. I go ever 12 weeks . No side effects although it can cause weight gain. I haven't had a period in nearly 10 years which I love! No need to worry about when I'm due on!

firstimemamma · 30/01/2020 09:43

Cilique pill.

It does the job and no side effects for me personally but I still wouldn't recommend it as paracetamol is listed as one of the medicines that 'may stop this pill from working properly'. This is in the huge leaflet in tiny letters, as part of a long list of medicines most of which I have never heard of. Imo it should be in huge red letters on the box and the doctor should have told me!

JacquesHammer · 30/01/2020 09:45

Mini pill with the same active ingredient as the mirena and condoms.

Scrunchy95 · 30/01/2020 09:45

I was on the pill in my twenties and ballooned. Also my breasts became almost comically big. Came off the pill in my early 30's and just use condoms. Very happy to have my body back. I'm nearly 45 now and feel great.

TheFuckingDogs · 30/01/2020 09:46

Infertility 🙈🙈🙈

CoffeeCoinneseur · 30/01/2020 09:46

DH has had a vasectomy.

Before that I used the copper coil which caused me heavy periods and eventually anaemia.

Before that the Mirena coil which caused weight gain, mood swings, acne.

Before that the Depo injection and as a PP said just avoid avoid avoid.

Before that the pill - various brands which caused weight gain, migraines, blah blah.

Of them all I felt physically best using the cooper coil for the first year or so, the heavy periods seemed a small price to pay until the anaemia kicked in.

I was reluctant to use condoms alone, having had an accident resulting in needing the MAP.

DH, being the gent that he is, didn’t want to have sex with a woman who was on edge and couldn’t relax during sex, so we stopped and he took himself off for a vasectomy.

SweetpeaOrMarigold · 30/01/2020 09:47

Copper coil was fine for 2 years, now ttc and got bfp straight away but MC...my point being it doesnt affect fertility like other forms of contraception.
Periods stayed the same with and without it

CookPassBabtridge · 30/01/2020 09:48

Just condoms. I don't want objects inserted in my body and don't want artificial hormones affecting my mood, sex drive, weight etc. I feel free!

honeyloops · 30/01/2020 09:48

@okiedokieme It took about a month or so to settle down for me and then I haven't had a period since, 4 years later!

MaxNormal · 30/01/2020 09:48

Condoms.

Bonsaigem · 30/01/2020 09:55

@Caramel78 I had 1 shot. I bled continuously for 6 months. After 3 months I was loosing anywhere from half a pint to 1 pint of blood A DAY! i had to see a gynocologist in the end. I was put on pure progesterone to try and stop bleeding and re-set my body. It took 10 months to have a normal period again. I was bleeding so bad it would gush through fresh tampon, sanitary tool and bleed through my clothes. It was so so awful!

Do you know they use the same chemical to castrate paedophiles. No joke - Google it Angry

Alarae · 30/01/2020 09:55

Previously used the implant. Was magic for me, basically stopped all periods apart from some spotting every couple of months or so.

Fertility returned quickly after removal as I found out I was pregnant six weeks later!

TriangleBingoBongo · 30/01/2020 10:04

I have just come off the pill because I was bloated, really down, headaches. Just generally made me feel naff. We’re not just using condoms. I was also having really short cycles, with only a two week gap between periods.

I was on the depo for several years before having my son, but it took ten months for my periods to return and I would like another child in the next couple of years so don’t want anything that will mess with my cycles and fertility.

I am feeling so much better letting my body do it’s own thing!!

TriangleBingoBongo · 30/01/2020 10:05

*just using condoms!!! We’re not TTC!!

Hoohaahoo · 30/01/2020 10:06

Oh yeah, I forgot that the depo injection really does work, completely puts you off sex altogether. Nothing stirring down there for a while after too.

TriangleBingoBongo · 30/01/2020 10:07

Also using natural cycles which is a fertility awareness method, the app records your temp and detects when you’re ovulating. My cycles aren’t predictable enough and it hasn’t got enough data yet to give me “green days” which mean you can have sex without a barrier method. It also helps to have an awareness of your cycle I think.

Halloweenbabyy · 30/01/2020 10:07

I’m currently using pregnancy, thrush that won’t go away and SPD.
