How much water do you drink per day?

I’ve just used this calculator to determine how much water I need to drink every day for my weight and it says 3.7 litres. Does this sound about right or excessive? I’m 5ft 6 and 12 and half stone.
I’ve been drinking 2 litres per day and thought I was doing well with that! I feel like I’d never be off the toilet if I drank more than that

I probably drink between 3-3.5 litres a day. I get awful headaches if I don't drink enough.

Whichoneofyoudidthat · 29/01/2020 13:45

I drink one coffee in the morning and then just water for all other liquids. It really does depend on how thirsty I am. It could be anything from 500ml (in the middle of winter) to 3 litres at the height of summer after exercising.

I think if your wee is straw coloured then you’re doing ok!

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2020/jan/27/the-truth-about-hydration-should-you-drink-eight-glasses-of-water-a-day

"Tellingly, if you seek water-consumption advice from a quietly reputable US source such as Harvard Medical School, instead of the 8x8 rule, you get “four to six cups” a day for healthy adults and all beverages count, even diuretics such as coffee, tea and booze"

HoldMyLobster · 29/01/2020 13:46

I drink when I'm thirsty. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

Kinneddar · 29/01/2020 13:47

According to that calculator I need 7 litres a day. I dont think so

Caramel78 · 29/01/2020 13:48

@Kinneddar haha that definitely sounds way too much!

It says I should drink 4.61 litres, I don't drink anywhere near that! If my pee's the colour of pale straw I assume I'm drinking enough. DD's drinking nowhere near enough then.

Kinneddar · 29/01/2020 13:50

I couldn't physically drink that amount plus I hate to think what it would do to me. I drink a couple of litres a day and that seems to be fine.

Tombliwho · 29/01/2020 13:51

Grin apparently I need 6 litres..

Vix20678 · 29/01/2020 13:51

Honestly I'm terrible at drinking. I just never get thirsty so some days I only have a small glass of water.

cptartapp · 29/01/2020 14:00

I never drink just water. 3-4 coffees during the day + alcohol at the weekends. Not good really. I rarely feel thirsty either.

EyeDrops · 29/01/2020 14:07

I don't drink enough! Maybe two or three glasses of squash/juice/water, plus several cups of tea (not all caffienated) a day.

oldwhyno · 29/01/2020 14:09

3.7l is absurd. 2 litres is probably more than necessary for many people. Drink when you're thirsty and avoid dehydration. Drinking more than that isn't better for you.

Baaaahhhhh · 29/01/2020 14:10

What have I had so far today? Two coffees and a small (150ml) glass of pomegranate. Just about to go for a cup of tea. I know I don't drink enough, but that's normal for me. If I drink too much water I get really sloshy and have bad acid reflux, so tend to only drink one glass a day with dinner.

WeirdPookah · 29/01/2020 14:13

That's pretty excessive. You will be fine on 2 litres plus anything else.

I drink 2 litres of plain water but also have 3 coffees, 1 tea and 1 diet coke. Plus you get water from foods.

Shockers · 29/01/2020 14:14

I drink about 2 pints during the day and another 2 through the night (I sleep with my mouth open, so it gets dry). I also drink a couple of decaf coffees and a glass of kombucha.

goodgodingovan · 29/01/2020 14:29

If your urine is pale in colour and doesn't smell strong and you don't feel thirsty then generally you're getting enough fluid.

TheFuckingDogs · 29/01/2020 14:33

5 pints water per day

Nquartz · 29/01/2020 14:37

I'd be in the toilet constantly drinking that much 😱
I drink about a litre plus 2 cups of tea or coffee & I already seem to wee a lot so I would struggle to drink more (and I have tried).

ClientQueen · 29/01/2020 14:45

About 2l tea and 1l water

Biancadelrioisback · 29/01/2020 14:56

Is the 'rule' not 8 8oz cups a day?

HoldMyLobster · 29/01/2020 15:04

According to Harvard Medical School, it's “four to six cups” a day for healthy adults.

Meruem · 29/01/2020 15:05

I never drink water. I drink tea, coffee, juice, or wine! I think it's ridiculous to think we need "rules" to tell us how much water to drink. It's like no one trusts their own body any more to tell them what it needs.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 29/01/2020 15:09

I don’t drink much water but all fluids count. I drink 2 or 3 cups of decaf tea a day, probably one coffee and a can of Diet Coke. Sometimes have a glass of sparkling water.
