To hate the sun shining in the house.

When it’s particularly sunny Or bright I always keep my blinds shut. I cannot stand the sun shining in. I like being outside in the sun but I cannot stand it shining in my house.

OH thinks I’m mad and opens the blinds again (he’s gone to work and home today so I’ve got them shut again). We have black out blinds in front room and kitchen 🤣

He thinks I’m some kind of hermit for not liking it shining in. I prefer the blinds shut when it’s bright and it feels cosier. I prefer it darker anyway.

Aibu to think I can’t be the only one? I absolutely cannot stand the sun shining in.

The way my house faces it shines in badly in the back windows so I tend to keep them shut and keep the front blinds open...

Please tell me I’m not mad!

Only because it shows the windows need cleaning on the inside. Sad

Doobydoo · 20/01/2020 10:04

Same here! Can never understand why,in those house programnes, people have walls of glass..and talk about the sun 'flooding the room with light' ....

Doobydoo · 20/01/2020 10:05

And that SparklingSmile

TigerBreadAddict · 20/01/2020 10:05

I love it! Sorry YABU

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2020 10:09

The cat thinks it's fabulous and luckily she doesn't notice my grubby windows. Grin

MerlinsScarf · 20/01/2020 10:09

I'm not a fan of sunlight beaming in either, but then I prefer overcast weather anyway because it makes it feel so nice and cosy indoors. It's a nuisance when you get a harsh glare of light coming in through the windows.

LettertoHermoine · 20/01/2020 10:10

You are not mad, I am exactly the same. It drives hubby nuts. "LET THE LIGHT IN!!" he says and then opens all the blinds and I am quivering like a vampire in the corner. I keep them down when he is at work. The sun shining in on me would put me in a very bad mood. I love the darkness of winter. Not a lover of summer and brightness and sunshine and sunbeams and my house being flooded in light at ALL. I only know of one other person who shares these sentiments and now you too! Thank you

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2020 10:10

My little naff solar powered dancing flower thing is liking it, and come tonight all my solar garden lights should be looking good.

There are positives.

fourquenelles · 20/01/2020 10:11

Only because it shows up how grubby absolutely filthy my kitchen cabinet fronts are.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 20/01/2020 10:13

Sometimes I wear my sunglasses indoors when it’s sunny. I don’t like it either. I like it outside (but still need sunglasses)
I think my eyes are very light sensitive.

Fieldofgreycorn · 20/01/2020 10:16

You're not mad but you may be a vampire. Are you sure you leave the house during the day?

There’s nothing wrong in itself preferring dark but it means you can’t have any house plants. More worrying is your incompatibility with the prince of light.

elQuintoConyo · 20/01/2020 10:21

I live it, makes me feel alive and warms the house. I hate grey days and having to put the heating on

JosefKeller · 20/01/2020 10:25

I don't get it, I tend to open the windows as soon as the sun is shining to let sun and fresh air in. (and regretfully close them after 10 minutes when it's 0 degrees outside)

flirtygirl · 20/01/2020 10:35

I don't like too much sunlight, I don't hate it but i will never subscribe to the blinds up all day and windows open notion.

My blinds are down permanently in my bedroom and it gets enough light. I don't need to turn on the light on anything but the darkest of days.

I would never get bifolds, would never want all that summer sun fading my decoration, fabric and wooden floor and also would never put up with constant flying insects in summer.

I would love some nice french doors but they can remain closed alot and unlike bifolds, they look nice with window treatments and as part of a room.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 20/01/2020 10:37

I don't either, I like the indoors in and the outdoors outGrin

My idea of hell would be an extension kitchen with a glass roofShock

tenlittlecygnets · 20/01/2020 10:47

YABU. I love the sun shining in the house.

Somanysocks · 20/01/2020 10:52

No, you are nuts.

FaFoutis · 20/01/2020 10:53

YANBU. I chose my house because the sun doesn't often shine directly in.
I lived in a rented house for a while which had a glass roof in the massive open plan kitchen/dining/whatever. You could not escape from the glare and the heat. It was horrible.

Southmouth · 20/01/2020 10:53

I love the sunshine but I do prefer it when it’s more duller indoors, purely because the sun shows how smeary my windows and french doors our Grin

DimplesMcGee · 20/01/2020 10:56

No, I don't get it. The only time I'd have the blinds down when it's sunny is if it's shining on the TV and I'm trying to watch something. I love a bright sunny room. And I always open the windows very day to get some fresh air in.

notaregularmom · 20/01/2020 10:57

I'm with you op. I like darkness Confused

Pop2017 · 20/01/2020 10:58

Thanks all. I have no issue with the sun light outside. I actually like being out in the sun but can’t deal with it shining in my house. If I have people over and it’s sunny I feel obliged to open the blinds as they might think I’m strange having them closed but I’m itching to get them shut again.

I do believe I’m sensitive to sunlight. Although I like being out in it. I always have to wear sunglasses else I end up squinting and with a headache!

Just remembered though when we sold our previous house the now owners first viewed it in the afternoon, they were very keen but asked if they could come back early the next morning to see how much light the house lets in and quizzed us the whole time on the amount of natural light it’s gets throughout the day Grin

Herts6789 · 20/01/2020 16:53

I love having the sun shine in.....apart from a very specific time of day when it shines through the top window of our front door at the low angle that highlights EVERY SINGLE SPECK OF HAIR OR DUST ON THE FLOOR!! drives me mad :)

(one bed flat so front door directly faces living and kitchen area, plus dog and wooden floors)

Kwkwjwkek · 20/01/2020 16:59

Me too!! I hate bright light coming in. I always pull the curtains together as soon I see them open. Can not stand it for some reason.
