To hate the sun shining in the house.

When it’s particularly sunny Or bright I always keep my blinds shut. I cannot stand the sun shining in. I like being outside in the sun but I cannot stand it shining in my house.

OH thinks I’m mad and opens the blinds again (he’s gone to work and home today so I’ve got them shut again). We have black out blinds in front room and kitchen 🤣

He thinks I’m some kind of hermit for not liking it shining in. I prefer the blinds shut when it’s bright and it feels cosier. I prefer it darker anyway.

Aibu to think I can’t be the only one? I absolutely cannot stand the sun shining in.

The way my house faces it shines in badly in the back windows so I tend to keep them shut and keep the front blinds open...

Please tell me I’m not mad!

Adore the sun! Hate dull days ,If too dark put fairy lights as well .The only downside is sun catching you in the face when sitting down .

I’ve always thought I have reverse SAD.
I love the sun outside and if on holiday somewhere hot.
At home I adore autumn and winter and do not like hard bright sunny days with harsh glare inside my home. Always love north/east facing rooms more than any other. Like indirect light inside.

I love the sun..in summer. But it makes me irrationally angry in cold months. I would much prefer it to be dark and raining.

BentNeckLady · 21/01/2020 07:04

Is this a thing? I read on here once that some people never ever open their windows either Confused

ringme · 21/01/2020 07:08

Another one who loves to sit in the dark (near darkness). Agree ja makes the house feel cosier.
I find the light hurts my eyes a little.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 21/01/2020 07:10

DP prefers to have the place in darkness like a junkie hovel.

He has always wondered why he gets depressed so easily. Can't imagine how spending all day in the dark and only leaving the house on days off after dark could be related, somehow. After all, he never sees daylight for weeks on end.

It's a complete mystery.

I have a v modern house where every room has floor to ceiling glass and house faces south.

My problem is not the light but the extreme heat this generates inside.

YABU

We don't get enough sun this time of year anyway so what we do get should be welcomed!

Coulddowithanap · 21/01/2020 09:48

I wish we had a house that the sun shined into. Our house is so dark and miserable.

MintyMabel · 21/01/2020 16:46

Currently in a stand off with OH who can’t understand why we need to replace the shiny kitchen sink with a Matt black one. When the sun streams in I’m blinded by the reflection. He’s a foot and a half taller so it doesn’t bother him.

nameymcnamechangeagain · 21/01/2020 16:57

I’m like you OP!!! I never open the curtains or blinds. The only time they get opened is when DP does it who also thinks I’m mad. I tend to be referred to as a vampire.

Beautifulweeds · 26/03/2025 15:15

I'm exactly the same and have just this minute had an argument about it lol 😆 I hate it, DH loves it. I find it overwhelming and it makes me feel hot and bothered. I had a classroom that was south facing and the sun shone in all day, only had curtains so to have the windows open you couldn't close them properly. Xx

Katemax82 · 26/03/2025 17:07

The last house we lived in had great big living room windows that allowed loads of sunlight in, I absolutely hated it too

hannonle · 26/03/2025 17:12

I'm not looking forward to summer because I know my living room will be boiling. If I open door/window then the traffic noise is super loud. Grrr

Nope I’m similar 😂 in fact last few years I’ve started to dislike the later light evenings! I can cope with 8 but 10pm no way. Probably since having kids that one, but I enjoy summer very much, just by late August I’m fed up and glad for the nights drawling in, and not so bright all the time.

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 26/03/2025 17:45

Gosh no I love it. I love my south facing bedroom.
