Do you enjoy smoking?

Aibu- are there smokers on here? Or closet smokers like myself?

OP posts:
Freddiefatpants · 17/01/2020 17:59

Yes I enjoy it. I really don't want to though. It costs a fortune and is anti social, but still I do it.
I can also chain smoke 2 or 3 in a row especially after not having one for a while, it comes from 14 hour shifts with 2 half hour breaks I think.
I have a few friends that have quit using the tablets and they've been the only thing that has worked, but I can't have them because I've had severe depression in the past and it's contra indicated.
I am truly addicted because I do actually want to give up but I always slide back to it. I resent it.

Sunnyskies111 · 17/01/2020 18:00

Are you a journalist OP?

chipsandpeas · 17/01/2020 18:05

i did, i only stopped due to the cost, still have some when ive been drinking

PositiveVibez · 17/01/2020 18:07

I only smoke when I have a drink - so usually every weekend lol. and I really enjoy it and think they go hand in hand.

I don't smoke at all otherwise.

I am currently doing dry Jan so haven't had a fag since 31st December.

It hasn't bothered me whatsoever. I will be interested to see what happens when I have a drink again. Will I not want one after a month, or will I crave that nicotine buzz with my glass of wine in a couple of weeks.

Cinammoncake · 17/01/2020 18:08

I used to and enjoyed it, but don't miss it now. In the end, the anxiety over what it was doing to my body outweighed the momentary enjoyment.

user12345796 · 17/01/2020 18:09

I haven't had even a drag for 24 years but I still could.

mybabyisteething · 17/01/2020 18:16

DH used to smoke. He gave up using an ecig about 6 months ago and has recently stopped using the ecig too.

He never enjoyed smoking but felt like he needed it. It helped him with his anxiety but he hated it.

Ex e cig user here. Pregnant with baby #2 so I've obviously quit... but I loved it. I had a range of vapes over the years, my big Smok one being the best (albeit stupidly expensive). In hindsight I was stupidly addicted and had it on my person at all times. I had a puff when I woke up, puffed as I got ready, puffed as I drove to work. Multiple puffs in work. Puffed when I drove home from work, puffed while watching tv, in bed, before I slept... quite bad isn't it Grin

But, I loved it. Especially menthol oils. I loved the feeling in your throat.

But, alas, I'm pregnant. Baby is more important than anything else. Still was one of my favourite self indulgent hobbies (much more so than drinking).

I smoked before that, albeit fairly casually. When I quit smoking because I jumped on the e cig bandwagon, I never missed it. I wouldn't have a drag now, nor would I start again as I have children. But they remind me of my uni and nightclub working days. When life was carefree. So I'll always think back on them fondly Smile

schoolsoutforever · 17/01/2020 18:21

Isn't enjoying just the addiction talking though. I smoked relatively heavily for fifteen years and found it horrendous to give up. I used to love smoking but now looking back I think I loved the feeling because I was an addict. The cravings lasted for years.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 17/01/2020 18:25

I bloody love smoking.

I probably need to give up though. It's been 30 years and I feel I may be pushing my luck slightly.

73kittycat73 · 17/01/2020 19:14

I gave up 11 years ago and still wish I could smoke without any comebacks today. I do miss it.

Does anybody else get the smoking dreams? In them I'm always running out of fags and either I have the money but the shops closing, or the shop is open but I don't have the money! I have them quite often, at least once a week.

Mads123 · 17/01/2020 19:19

I gave up smoking nearly 2 years ago and still miss it, so yes I enjoyed smoking.

PajamasnoDramas · 17/01/2020 19:20

I switched to vaping last spring having smoked for over 20 years. I bloody loved smoking and never imagined I’d be able to give up, but now I really dont miss smoking. I bought a pack for over Christmas and still have half the pack left. I really don’t enjoy them as much as I used to. Just addicted to the vape now.

TokyoSushi · 17/01/2020 19:22

I gave up smoking to TTC, DS is now 9 and I've never smoked since, but when I did smoke, I loved it! It was much cheaper then though!

imamearcat · 17/01/2020 19:28

I used to smoke but hate it now. I do enjoy a vape

PanicAndRun · 17/01/2020 22:07

Love it!

It keeps me sane and grounded most of the time and breaks up the working day. It's what keeps me going when things are really shit "x more minutes/hours and I can get out and have a fag".

Biggest cravings... first thing in the morning, after a meal and after sex.Grin

Freddiefatpants · 17/01/2020 22:09

I found this on one of my multiple attempts to give up and used an ecig, it became like a dummy, the damned thing was never out of my mouth! I think because it doesn't have the same negative social aspect, and I could creep into the loo at work and not get caught, do it in the house etc, there weren't the same limitations like there are on smoking.

vodkaredbullgirl · 17/01/2020 22:13

Yes, dont smoke in the closet too many clothes and my tool boxes in there too lol. Just rolling 1 up as i type.

bellalou1234 · 17/01/2020 22:18

I love.my 2 on my way to work. It's what I look forward to, I know I need to break the habit

ViciousJackdaw · 18/01/2020 00:11

I swapped the cigs for a vape too - it's been almost two years since I smoked but I'm still using 11mg nicotine e-liquid, so I'm still an addict. A nicer smelling addict though, with more spare cash!

I do miss my Embassy though.

HelloHelloHelloHelloHelloHello · 18/01/2020 01:42

Oh God, I love it. I've given up but still miss it. That's why it's addictive I guess. That lovely head rush, that first drag, mmmmmm :)

Chocpear · 18/01/2020 01:46

I smoked for 15 years and I would have said I enjoyed it at that time. 15 years on I do not miss it and relieved i do not.

Yarboosucks · 18/01/2020 01:57

I am at 14 months of vaping after 30 years of smoking. I used to scrounge the odd fag, but the last one was just yucky. A man walked past me smoking today and it smelt really awful. I hate that I used to smell like that.

Bellabluea · 18/01/2020 02:15

I loved smoking, but often I’d find I loved the thought of one more than actually smoking one. I quit all the time and can last 6 months then smoke for a couple of months then quit again when the stress builds up.
I have asthma though and when I smoke for a while my chest is horrendous. I’m trying to remember that.
My favourite cigarettes are in the car. My commute to work can take an hour and a couple of ciggies really broke it up.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 18/01/2020 02:25

Smoked regularly from around 15 yrs to mid 20s then stopped.Took it up again going through divorce at 32.I can stop and start without getting bad cravings.I remember the first one of the day making me urgently need a poo especially if had it with juice 😄
