To not understand why Amy Schumer is having IVF

SunflowerSuit · 14/01/2020 00:40

Eight months after her child was born?
In this country would they advise you against this so close to a recent pregnancy and birth?

I had IVF so understand how infertility means but she doesn’t seem to have said anywhere that her first child was difficult to conceive or conceived through IVF.

Is your point that she is having Ivf too soon after her previous birth or that she shouldn't be having ivf because she doesn't have infertility?

Presumably if she is paying for the procedure she can have it whenever she wants. And there is no way of knowing, unless you are her or her husband, whether she has fertility issues.

It's a bit "let's just shit on this woman" your post. From my interpretation anyways. I may have read it wrong?

Hospitalknickers · 14/01/2020 00:43

No idea who Amy Schumer is, but YABU it's not really any of your business is it?!

Cryingoverspilttea · 14/01/2020 00:43

I imagine the first was and she is using frozen embryos she had left over from her previous round.

Either that or she needs PGD for a hereditary disorder that has come to light, or sometimes it's offered prior to medical treatment that may render either infertile.

SylvanianFrenemies · 14/01/2020 00:45

Do you need to understand? It is none of your business.

DramaAlpaca · 14/01/2020 00:45

Hospitalknickers has just said what I was going to say, word for word.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 14/01/2020 00:48

YABU why on earth do YOU need to "understand"?

Her body, her DC, her choice.

drinkygin · 14/01/2020 00:48

Absoooooutely none of your business, not a single tiny little bit your business, actually.

RoomR0613 · 14/01/2020 00:49

I would usually say it's none of our business but she's pretty openly posting about it I assume because she wants to highlight what IVF does to women.

She's 38, and freezing her eggs as she wants her son to have a sibling one day. Presumably she has the money to do this rather than leaving things to natural chance/ luck and so that's her choice.

ZeroOneOneTwoThree · 14/01/2020 00:49

My husband and I had fertility treatment. First round was IVF (failed) the second was an epidydmovasostomy. The epdidymovasostomy was successful and we now have a baby. However, the surgery only works for a short amount of time in a percentage of cases. For us, it may be now or never and we’d have to ignore the usual recommended timelines between two pregnancies.

It’s a shame to think that if I had another round of IVF now (bad eggs too), I’d be questioned rather than supported.

It’s Amy’s choice.

SpaceCadet4000 · 14/01/2020 00:51

She probably has access to some brilliant doctors given her wealth. I'm sure that she's acting on their advice. She has PCOS I think and it's possible that she used IVF to conceive her first child.

Even though she's being open about IVF and her reproductive issues there is probably a lot that she has not shared which may have lead to this decision.

She's also said she's also said that she is freezing her eggs so she probably isn't immediately planning on implanting.

CapnSquirrel · 14/01/2020 00:52

Jeez shame on you for being curious about a public figure OP! Wink I don't know a lot about Amy Schumer but I do know she's often not shy in putting it all out there so I imagine she'll address it at some stage. YANBU to wonder though!

justcly · 14/01/2020 00:54

She has endometriosis (which can cause fertility to decline incredibly rapidly) and suffered hyperemesis gravidarum during her pregnancy. She also discussed that her son's birth was difficult. Maybe they are freezing her eggs because they are considering using a surrogate?

Justawaterformeplease · 14/01/2020 00:56

She said in a recent post that they’re hoping to freeze embryos.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 14/01/2020 00:57

Not a fan of hers but I’ve seen her instagram posts about this.

Hats off to her for being so open about the process and how hard it’s been. Some people talk about IVF now like it’s nothing, it’s great to see someone with a platform showing the reality.

.........
Agree.

EachandEveryone · 14/01/2020 01:26

Im sorry but I thought exactly the same! She married and was pregnant in what seemed like five minutes after meeting her bloke which makes everyone assume it happened naturally. If these celebs are going to share everything about every tiny detail of their life then of course we “followers” are allowed to speculate. I like her alot and wish her well. I just hope its genuine and not just a A listers privilege for when it suits her.

Rosehip345 · 14/01/2020 01:38

No idea who she is, but we did this.

Took years trying to get DD1 so we didn’t really wait around to start trying for no2. The doctors were really supportive, obviously they could see the amount of time/attempts on my notes so we missed out doing all the preliminary tests again and went straight into treatment

nocluewhattodoo · 14/01/2020 01:38

Are people only allowed to use IVF if they 'need' it? What determines it being a need? I doubt many people without any fertility issues would chose to go through it tbh. It's certainly not a convenience.

GrumpyHoonMain · 14/01/2020 01:45

I will go back to the fertility clinic when my DC is 6 months old to discuss number two. Why? Because I will be 40 soon, I have two endocrine problems, two serious blood disorders, and an autoimmune condition - all of which will need treatment for 3 months prior to egg collection.

VimFuego101 · 14/01/2020 02:17

I assumed it was due to her endometriosis and/ or HG. I'm surprised that a doctor would advise her putting her body through egg retrieval cycles so soon after giving birth, it must be very tough.

Amy Schumer is a god awful actress who makes her business everybody's.

OrangeHeadMummy · 14/01/2020 03:10

As she’s in her late 30s she may want to get started having another baby as time is not on her side. Who knows maybe she is planning a large family and wants to fit a few more babies in over the next few years.

OldieButaGoodie · 14/01/2020 03:52

My mum - married in May, first born the next May, 2nd born the next June, 3rd born the next June, 4th born the next November... back in the day, no choice that she had 4 in 3.5 years!

Jossina · 14/01/2020 04:48

I would say it's none of your business, like others have, but then again that doesn't make sense. If Amy didn't want it to BE everyone's business she wouldn't have told everyone.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 14/01/2020 05:15

If she has endo, doesn't bf keep it at bay for a bit? It may be that her reproductive system is in a (rare) state of good health and she's seizing the opportunity, especially if shes 38.

I wouldnt lose sleep over it OP. I doubt she's having ivf unless she needs it. It's not pleasant
