To be slightly horrified and complain

I know my experience is unpleasant but I’m not sure if I’m overreacting here. I’m posting partly because I feel the need to share my less than satisfactory Next directory shopping experience.

Today I picked up a large Next sale order. I’d ordered a fair amount of PJ’s (amongst other things) for choice as my current nightwear is getting rather threadbare.

Whilst going through the bags I noticed a used panty liner amongst the items that had been opened.

I only use reusable cloth sanitary wear. It certainly wasn’t mine. There has been no one at the house who could be responsible for its presence. When my dd returned home from school I asked her if she knew where it come from, but she was equally as horrified and bemused as me. She 100 per cent says that it isn’t hers. It hasn’t crept in at my end.

It seems possible that someone at Next has not carefully inspected return products before shipping them back out. Either that or it is at the hands of a disgruntled employee.

Do I take this further and complain to Next, or do I just write it off as one of life’s little unpleasantries?

I’m not a troll. I’ve been on MN for years.

Just write it off as one of life’s unpleasantries.

AnyOldPrion · 10/01/2020 20:52

I’d complain. That’s pretty grim.

Litsea · 10/01/2020 20:52

Sweet lord that’s nasty. I’d complain.

Yarboosucks · 10/01/2020 20:54

I am not a complainer, generally considering life to be too short. But a use panty liner in my order would be too much for me! I am afraid that the entire order that was in with that liner would be contaminated (and would remain ever thus!)

Plus, if I were the returns processing manager at Next, I would want to know!

ohwheniknow · 10/01/2020 20:55

Of course you tell them.

HappyHammy · 10/01/2020 20:56

That is pretty vile, of course you should complain.

ButtonandPickle19 · 10/01/2020 20:56

Complain. Not in a nasty way but it’s customer service

BlueEyedGreeness · 10/01/2020 20:56

Complain! Take photos as evidence

aNonnyMouse1511 · 10/01/2020 20:57

Next don’t inspect their returns very well at all. Complain. They’ll give you a £10 voucher.

Threefaries · 10/01/2020 21:02

I have photographed the offending item.

How gross- another woman who had her period has clearly worn this then returned It! I would complain then send it back.

inkydinky · 10/01/2020 21:07

I’m not sure they check returns at all. I’ve stopped using the directory because I’ve received multiple previously returned items in a poor state - the last was a pair of black Jeans covered in white dog hairs (v noticeable!) with huge tears on them. It looked like a dog had taken a dislike to them 😳

mindfulmam · 10/01/2020 21:07

Gross . But why do you have to ask Mumsnet 😃
Of course return it as it is liner and all with a hefty complaint

Shingles443 · 10/01/2020 21:13

I shop a lot from next directory and have received all sorts of orders. Children’s coats which have been washed with scuffed buttons, different sized pyjama top and buttons, dirty clothing. I have complained on numerous occasions about inspecting returned clothing. I’m not surprised things slip through the net - when I’ve returned clothing they don’t even take things out of the plastic wrapper if they can see the tag to scan it through it.

CassidyStone · 10/01/2020 21:21

Ugh, how revolting.

Complain. They need to sort their act out and get someone to check the returns are immaculate, before sending them out to other people.

mommybear1 · 10/01/2020 21:22

Complain

PlanDeRaccordement · 10/01/2020 21:24

Complain! Definitely! That’s a biohazard. I’d want my entire order replaced and an apology voucher of £100 minimum.

Bluerussian · 10/01/2020 21:25

Telephone Next customer service and tell them about it. They will be mortified and recompense you in some way.

Rachelfromfriends1 · 10/01/2020 21:25

Absolutely complain. This isn’t “one of those things” - it’s a valid complaint!

I wouldn’t trust that anything was hygienic in that bag now.

whyamidoingthis · 10/01/2020 21:25

I'm extremely horrified that you are only slightly horrified.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 10/01/2020 21:26

Jesus I would complain immediately that is GRIM. You'll need to complain as you'll need to return the items surely? I couldn't wear those snow..

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 10/01/2020 21:26

*now

MummyOfBoyAndGirl · 10/01/2020 21:29

Disgusting! I would want the full order returned and replacements issued

SunshineCake · 10/01/2020 21:32

I'd ring in rather than return.
