To be slightly horrified and complain

I know my experience is unpleasant but I’m not sure if I’m overreacting here. I’m posting partly because I feel the need to share my less than satisfactory Next directory shopping experience.

Today I picked up a large Next sale order. I’d ordered a fair amount of PJ’s (amongst other things) for choice as my current nightwear is getting rather threadbare.

Whilst going through the bags I noticed a used panty liner amongst the items that had been opened.

I only use reusable cloth sanitary wear. It certainly wasn’t mine. There has been no one at the house who could be responsible for its presence. When my dd returned home from school I asked her if she knew where it come from, but she was equally as horrified and bemused as me. She 100 per cent says that it isn’t hers. It hasn’t crept in at my end.

It seems possible that someone at Next has not carefully inspected return products before shipping them back out. Either that or it is at the hands of a disgruntled employee.

Do I take this further and complain to Next, or do I just write it off as one of life’s little unpleasantries?

I’m not a troll. I’ve been on MN for years.

Just write it off as one of life’s unpleasantries

Really ? really?

mindfulmam · 10/01/2020 21:42

Yes don't keep any of it it's disgusting

SqueakyChicken · 10/01/2020 21:44

I recently ordered a top online from Next that when I collected absolutely reeked of cigarette smoke. Quite clearly worn on a night out or similar.

Definitely complain!

robin04031402 · 10/01/2020 21:53

Definitely contact them!
You don't know who it has come from and who used it!

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 10/01/2020 22:08

How gross- another woman who had her period has clearly worn this then returned It

It's a panty liner not a sanitary towel. I'm assuming it's not covered in blood?

But yes that's gross OP and should be made known to Next

Rachelfromfriends1 · 10/01/2020 22:11

Not going to lie, I don’t shop for clothing at next but this has put me right off ever buying clothes from them🤢

Strangerthingshere · 10/01/2020 22:13

I would absolutely complain.

Emmelina · 10/01/2020 22:15

That’s really disgusting. I would definitely complain!

Rachelfromfriends1 · 10/01/2020 22:18

Having said that, some customers are beyond vile. I’m never surprised to the extent of how filthy the general public are.

When I worked in retail at Topshop, we had women leave used sanitary towels/tampons & nappies in the fitting rooms! Someone even urinated inside one - the shopping centre bathrooms were literally next door, a mere 1 minute walk away so there was absolutely no excuseHmm it’s not like they were forced inside my store as they swanned past the loos!

Also people trying on bikinis/bodysuits without their own underwear on - how do I know this? Because the tramps that tend to do this also like to post changing room selfies on social media of them in the act🙄

Enwi · 10/01/2020 22:24

Oh gosh, that is awful. I wouldn't want any of it after that!
Definitely complain. If nothing else it might result in staff being a wee bit more vigilant.

namina · 10/01/2020 22:31

Vile, definitely complain!

Sagradafamiliar · 10/01/2020 22:32

It's a panty liner not a sanitary towel

I thought a panty liner was a thin sanitary towel?

Of course complain, OP but I'm not sure why you told us about what you wear during your period, if didn't come from you then it didn't come from you.

DickDewy · 10/01/2020 22:34

I’d complain (when I’d stopped vomiting).

DramaAlpaca · 10/01/2020 22:34

That's grim. Send the whole lot back for refund and complain via email attaching photographs.

tillytoodles1 · 10/01/2020 22:38

My husband used to sell sports wear . One woman sent back a tracksuit as she said it was too small. The inside lining of the bottoms was covered in blood as though she's come on unexpectedly with no protection. As she was the wife of a good customer he returned her money We binned the whole thing but it pisses me off when people send back stuff that's clearly been used, but wanting their money back

Rachelfromfriends1 · 10/01/2020 22:38

Liners are different from sanitary towels. They’re designed for day to day outside of periods

Sagradafamiliar · 10/01/2020 22:42

What for?!

Pigletthedog · 10/01/2020 22:43

I ordered a pair of Mamalicious maternity jeans from next once. When they came, they had quite clearly been worn by someone without underwear. I contacted Next online to complain, and they simply told me to 'take them back'. No acknowledgement of how disgusting it was or explanation as to how it had happened

Ceebs85 · 10/01/2020 22:49

Definitely complain, items should be checked before sending out.

However people saying everything's contaminated, nothing will be hygienic etc it's not like a wash wouldn't make everything as good as new

agonyauntie2020 · 10/01/2020 22:56

Ewww I would wash the whole lot in super hot water or return it all.

Turquiose · 10/01/2020 22:59

Like another poster said email complaint to customer services with photos. Wait for reply and request replacements after they've hopefully offered you compensation. Gross.

BrickTop999 · 10/01/2020 23:05

This happened to someone I know with a well known high street brand. She got £500 compensation

managedmis · 10/01/2020 23:06

Ugh

Hadtoask · 10/01/2020 23:07

@inkydinky you’ve just made me laugh for the first time in my miserable day. Thank you.
OP that’s awful! The whole parcel would have to go back if it happened to me.
I also smiled at the person who said put it down to one of life’s unpleasantries. That’s a brave and stoic woman.

Hadtoask · 10/01/2020 23:12

@PlanDeRaccordement I honestly thought you said £100 million. And I was in agreement.
