Or Should I go back and pay ?

Realised from reading the other post about the lady who walked out of the restaurant without paying that I may have done something similar but interested in opinions. I took my young daughter for a trim. I'd already asked the cost on the phone and she said £10. I specifically told the hairdresser before she started she still needed to be able to tie it up in a bun for ballet. I literally looked away for a second and she had an ear length bob. Daughter had curly hair midway down her back originally so it then sprang up more. I said to the hairdresser I'm not sure how I'm going to get that in a bun, she then attempted it herself and agreed it wouldn't go even go into a ponytail. Dd was a bit upset and I was panicking slightly as dd is a nightmare about her hair. Didn't want to make dd more upset so tried to be positive and went to the desk to pay. Hairdresser said they didn't have a card machine so I said I'd go to atm. Whilst walking to atm dd starts crying, I'm getting more angry at the hair cock up and inwardly cursing hairdresser. I get money out of atm, walk back to the shop and find it closed. We go past this shop frequently but I've never bothered to go back in and pay. My instinct when I read the previous post about the restaurant was that she should have paid but given my own actions perhaps I'm being a hypocrite?

How long were you at ATM? That’s strange they closed so quickly.

Yes I would go back and pay.

feelinglost02 · 02/01/2020 20:56

Oh it was literally 5 mins walk. I was surprised they were shut when I returned

I wouldn’t pay for a seriously screwed up hair cut. However I would have explained why I wasn’t paying rather than just not paying.

HappydaysArehere · 02/01/2020 21:00

Yes, Of course you must pay. That is terrible.

feelinglost02 · 02/01/2020 21:00

I think I thought that the hairdresser knew it was a botch and that's why they never called to chase the money because they knew they shouldn't have charged

SproutMuncher · 02/01/2020 21:09

I think not paying because the hair cut was bad is a different issue to agreeing to pay and then not going back. I think if it were me, having agreed to pay, I would go back and pay. You could always raise a complaint when you go back in?

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 02/01/2020 21:19

I suspect they shut quick as the haircut was so shit

hidinginthenightgarden · 02/01/2020 21:40

How long ago was it?
I probably wouldn't go back in if it was more than a week ago.

feelinglost02 · 02/01/2020 22:21

It was in august. It's just all the posts I saw on the other thread has made me feel like a criminal
Lol so wondering if I should go back in with my tail between my legs

OP posts:
hidinginthenightgarden · 03/01/2020 08:48

The moment has definitley passed! They have probably forgotton now.

heartsonacake · 03/01/2020 08:50

You agreed to pay so you should pay. Not doing so makes you a thief.

ineedaholidaynow · 03/01/2020 08:53

How can you not have paid since August?

Theducksarenotmyfriends · 03/01/2020 08:54

Why should she pay when she didn't receive what she wanted and they massively cocked it up? Seriously, don't worry about it op. They fucked it up.

BikeRunSki · 03/01/2020 08:54

I also think they closed very quickly because they were embarrassed at what they’d done to your DD’s hair, and didn’t know how to handle the situation.

I hope your DD’s hair is getting long again! I have very curly hair, and I feel your pain about growing it.

FamilyOfAliens · 03/01/2020 08:56

It’s interesting they didn’t say, “make sure you get back before we close at 5” or something similar.

Sayhellotothethings · 03/01/2020 08:57

In this instance I wouldn't have paid bur would have told them why.
If they closed that quickly when you went to the ATM then they probably weren't expecting payment as they knew they had cocked up.

LettuceP · 03/01/2020 08:57

They know how far away the nearest cashpoint is so they know how long it would have taken you and they closed before you came back. Plus they have your contact details and haven't chased it up. Both of these point towards them knowing the hairdresser fucked up and not expecting you to pay imo.

However I would have called them the next morning to explain that they were closed when you returned to pay and also that you are not happy with dds haircut. So I do think ywbu to not contact them or go back in another day.

Sayhellotothethings · 03/01/2020 08:58

*but
My phone literally changes correctly typed words to incorrect spelling.

AvaSnowdrop · 03/01/2020 08:58

I wouldn’t pay for a bad haircut. But I’d explain why I wasn’t paying, not just run off. But if it was in August it’s far too late to drag it back up and argue about why you aren’t paying. They won’t even remember that haircut now.

ineedaholidaynow · 03/01/2020 08:59

But you discuss it with them, you don’t just ignore it. OP said she would go to the ATM to get the money, she didn’t tell the hairdresser at that moment she wasn’t going to pay as unhappy with the service. And how can you look away for a second and the hair goes from being midway down to your daughter’s back to an ear length bob?

needanewnamechange · 03/01/2020 09:03

I would of rang or text and explained that the shop was shut when you came back but not happy about paying anyway . As it was in August it was far too long ago but you are definitely not a criminal .
Some of those posts on the other thread were very dramatic so I wouldn't worry .

Hahaha88 · 03/01/2020 09:03

They clearly shut out of panic you'd go mad when you went back and no, you shouldn't have paid

Tattooedmama · 03/01/2020 09:07

I wouldnt pay either, dont worry about it. Hope your little girls hair is growing nicely now.

I remember when i went in to the hairdresser to have my fringe cut to just under my eyebrows - she cut a thick fringe half way up my forehead Sad no way to salvage it, had to have it pinned for 2 months till it grew to have it corrected
Unfortunately i didnt have the balls back then to ask what the hell she done to my hair, i feel so stupid now wondering why on earth i never said anything to her.

BikeRunSki · 03/01/2020 09:10

OP, have the salon got you phone number?? If they have, and they haven’t chased payment, then let it lie. They know they’ve clicked up.

onemorecupofcoffeefortheroad · 03/01/2020 09:12

I really wouldn't bother paying now - you tried to pay and they were shut. They knew you were intending to come back - they could easily have waited five mins for you but they shut up shop instead. Anyway they botched the haircut and didn't listen to your instructions - I wouldn't give this another thought.
