Or Should I go back and pay ?

Realised from reading the other post about the lady who walked out of the restaurant without paying that I may have done something similar but interested in opinions. I took my young daughter for a trim. I'd already asked the cost on the phone and she said £10. I specifically told the hairdresser before she started she still needed to be able to tie it up in a bun for ballet. I literally looked away for a second and she had an ear length bob. Daughter had curly hair midway down her back originally so it then sprang up more. I said to the hairdresser I'm not sure how I'm going to get that in a bun, she then attempted it herself and agreed it wouldn't go even go into a ponytail. Dd was a bit upset and I was panicking slightly as dd is a nightmare about her hair. Didn't want to make dd more upset so tried to be positive and went to the desk to pay. Hairdresser said they didn't have a card machine so I said I'd go to atm. Whilst walking to atm dd starts crying, I'm getting more angry at the hair cock up and inwardly cursing hairdresser. I get money out of atm, walk back to the shop and find it closed. We go past this shop frequently but I've never bothered to go back in and pay. My instinct when I read the previous post about the restaurant was that she should have paid but given my own actions perhaps I'm being a hypocrite?

No way should you pay - they did exactly what you asked them not to do so why should you pay for that? They'll never learn to listen to customers if you reward them for that.

Pardonwhat · 03/01/2020 09:16

I’m amazed that anyone on here things you did anything wrong.
They clearly shut quickly out of embarrassment and so you couldn’t gather yourself and have to face the confrontation of you not paying - or paying but a complaint.

Properfatty · 03/01/2020 09:18

I suspect they shut quick as the haircut was so shit
This
Hows the hair now?

Actionhasmagic · 03/01/2020 09:20

Sorry but if it was only 5 mins they could have waited for the money. I think she shut because she was embarrassed

HairyString · 03/01/2020 09:26

You should not have to pay. You made it clear before the cutting what was required and by cutting, the hairdresser tacitly consented to the arrangement. The cut was not as you asked for and by attempting to put it into a bun and failing and agreeing that it was a fail, the hairdresser agreed that the contract was broken. Why would you pay for something you did not get? Do not pay. They are lucky you didn't make a massive fuss.

BrokenWing · 03/01/2020 09:27

I would have discussed with the hairdresser that she hadn't given your dd the cut you asked for and it is likely they would have not charged you, but if you agreed to pay you should have paid and it is therefore theft.

It was August, let it go. No point in going back now.

adaline · 03/01/2020 09:30

I suspect they panicked and wrote off the tenner so you couldn't claim they made you pay for a bad haircut!

Don't worry about it.

diddl · 03/01/2020 09:34

What time of day was it?

Presumably not near closing time?

Seems odd to me that they would close over it-you could have gone back at any time with the money/to make a fuss.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/01/2020 09:34

What time was it? Was it close to their normal closing time?
I agree they may have shut out of genuine embarrassment.

Anyway, too late now!

BrokenWing · 03/01/2020 09:36

Sorry but if it was only 5 mins they could have waited for the money. I think she shut because she was embarrassed

You really think a hairdresser will shut a whole shop due to embarrassment for a child's £10 cut? Hmm They deal with clients all the time and occasional cock ups are just part of the job.

It is much more likely it was normal closing time and the OP was gone more than 5 mins and the hairdresser wasn't hanging about for just £10/assumed OP wouldn't return.

IdblowJonSnow · 03/01/2020 09:42

I wouldnt have paid and would also have gone ballistic. Wtf do some hairdressers do this?
You've definitely missed the boat anyway - presumably you'll never go back there.

nimski · 03/01/2020 09:45

I wouldn't have been paying in the first place (but would have told them before I left)

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/01/2020 09:58

I expect she presumed you wouldn’t return. She screwed up your dds hair.

windycuntryside · 03/01/2020 10:00

Honestly is the best policy, such as . I didn’t ask for this hair cut, I am not paying.
However it goes both way, go and pay.

drumandthebass · 03/01/2020 10:00

No I definitely would not pay. I am annoyed for you. It annoys me so much when hairdressers do this. This happened to my son when the hairdresser just took it upon himself to cut my sons hair about an inch short. My hairdresser did the same to me last month when I said I just wanted the ends off and she cut about 2 inches off

NewName73 · 03/01/2020 10:01

It was the hairdressers' fault for closing when they knew you were coming back with the money!

So no I wouldn't pay them.

JosefKeller · 03/01/2020 10:03

How odd to close! Even if they did "close" for customers, there's always someone tidying up the shop, hairdressers don't just run out within 2 minutes.

I wouldn't bother.

Dieu · 03/01/2020 10:04

Your situation is different, and I wouldn't pay.

Dieu · 03/01/2020 10:05

Oh, have just read that it happened in August. It would look ridiculous to pay now.

BloggersBlog · 03/01/2020 10:09

Wow they certainly do things speedily in that hairdressers! You looked away for literally one second and it had already been cut from mid-length to ear! Then within 5 mins they had shut up shop, lights out, everything? Wow that is some pace they work at

pelirocco123 · 03/01/2020 10:12

It takes longer than 1 sec to cut hair into a bob
Nor to shops shut and everyone leave in 5 mins

Gonetoget · 03/01/2020 10:12

Well they can’t have been desperate for it, or they would have waited for your return.
I don’t get all the people on these threads that will happily hand over money for shit service. I wouldn’t have paid and explained why I wasn’t paying at the time.

Fr0g · 03/01/2020 10:15

Wouldn't bother from as far back as August.
Once had a haircut that was totally different from what I asked for; I complained, and someone else attempted to improve it. The manager said he wouldn't charge me - I then had their credit control team call me in the afternoon. Once I told them what I thought of the salon and their so called stylist, they didn't call back.

I now use a salon that is a social enterprise - you pay what you want to, brilliant arrangement (and an excelllent hairdresser).

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 03/01/2020 10:17

It was in august

Seriously? You've walked past it frequently before and "not bothered" go in to pay?

Yes, you are being a hypocrite if you thought the restaurant woman should have paid!

GiveHerHellFromUs · 03/01/2020 10:18

My hairdresser did the same to me last month when I said I just wanted the ends off and she cut about 2 inches off

How long had it been since your last cut, though? Because they normally cut off all the ends that need cutting off.

They also normally check that you're ok with the length before making the first cut.
