What has happened to Quality Street??

MomOfTwoGirls2 · 31/12/2019 20:26

I bought a small carton of Quality Street today, more for nostalgia than anything. I used to love Quality Street many years ago when I was a teen. I hadn’t had them in years.
I now only like the 2 toffee sweets!!
Have they changed? Or is it my taste buds that have changed?

Palm oil. Palm oil. Palm oil.

And they've got rid of the best ones too. They're disgusting and have gone the way of Roses etc.

TowerRavenSeven · 31/12/2019 20:27

I noticed they changed more than 10 years ago but they were from Canada!

70sWitch · 31/12/2019 20:28

They've changed. It's not you. Palm oil is the culprit.

fantasmasgoria1 · 31/12/2019 20:29

I have always hated quality street! Always preferred roses!

70sWitch · 31/12/2019 20:29

See also Cadbury. Crown Sad

Li11ibet · 31/12/2019 20:48

Agreed. They also smell really chemically this year too. And hate the new flavour caramel. Not much going for them now sadly. Same as Roses Xmas Angry

Gingernaut · 31/12/2019 20:54

Palm oil.

Nestlé

1Morewineplease · 31/12/2019 20:58

Yep.. palm oil. Also the chocolates are less interesting.
They have gone the same way as other chocolate manufacturers eg Cadbury’s .
I’ve always loved chocolate, in large quantities too, but have barely touched the stuff these last few years.

iWantToBreakBrie · 31/12/2019 21:00

Yup, palm oil came along and shagged our childhood chocolate.

Roses are even worse. They don't even have nice wrappers anymore.

SabineUndine · 31/12/2019 21:03

I've had Roses and they are making a big deal out of this chocolate truffle of theirs. Well, it's minging. The chocolate is rubbish too, since Kraft bought out Cadbury's.

meow1989 · 31/12/2019 21:06

Oh I'm glad someone else noticed the smell. I thought someone had been sick when we opened a tin in the office.

Louise91417 · 31/12/2019 21:06

Iv had a rummage through 2 tins over christmas.. where the hell has the green triangles gone..are they weening us off them???? And dont start me on the new "brownie"Shock

HabbyHadno · 31/12/2019 21:08

OMG yes the smell. I kept saying it smelled of farts when we opened it.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 31/12/2019 21:22

Palm oil.

Goawayquickly · 31/12/2019 21:24

Yep they’re horrible as are Roses and most chocolate now. Also Baileys has been given the cheaper treatment I think, unbearably sweet now and much thinner.

Karenisbaren · 31/12/2019 21:30

I bought to tubs fcor Christmas, will not be buying them again, they all just taste samey.

ManiacalLapwing · 31/12/2019 21:35

I think maybe a combination of taste buds and chocolates changing. I can only eat some milk chocolate now but not a lot of the ones I enjoy either, it's the darker the better these days.

AllergicToAMop · 31/12/2019 21:38

I haven't even bought them this year and having a christmas box of them was the first tradition I adopted when mlving hereXmas Hmm

salty78 · 31/12/2019 21:39

When they got rid of the peanut cracknel it was over for me.

ManiacalLapwing · 31/12/2019 21:40

Quality Street is Nestle so I wouldn't buy them myself because I support the boycott, but Roses are just as horrible.

Sexnotgender · 31/12/2019 21:42

Revolting now, have absolutely no interest in them anymore.

VioletCharlotte · 31/12/2019 21:44

They're not very nice at all anymore. I bought one tin this year and it's still 3/4 full. Even the teen DS won't eat them.

IceBearRocks · 31/12/2019 21:44

The chocolate brownies taste like farts !

elizabethdraper · 31/12/2019 21:47

Palm oil and Nestle are the problem

AllergicToAMop · 31/12/2019 21:47

The thing is that these changes are EVERYWHERE. I am not from Uk. I took my husband to my country of birth and bought us quark style ice lollies covered in chocolate i LOVED when young. He tasted it and pulled a face. I swiftly told him off that it's just different taste buds and it's rude to pull a face like that (admittedly bit touchy about my happy childhood memories there) and then I tasted it.
I apologised, took it off him and put it in a bin. It was disgusting. So much fat/oil. Just horrible.
I blame customers too. People want everything cheap so companies pull this oil shit and get away woth it
