In the last thread, Trump was impeached by Congress. Now the question is when the articles will be sent to the Senate for Trial, as - at this stage - there is no guarantee from Mitch McConnell of a fair trial. Trump clings to his belief that his call to Zelensky was “perfect”.

Not a pleasant read but certainly food for thought.

I study genocide. It's been a theme in my academic endeavours for nearly 30 years. More accurately, I study the conditions in the lead up to genocide, be they cultural, social, political, economic, etc...

Telling Americans homosexuality is caused by "the devil' is now a function of our government.

Busy, busy busy.

President Trump just told reporters on Air Force One that the administration plans to release its Middle East peace plan soon, possibly before Netanyahu and Gantz come to Washington. “Sometime prior to that. Probably we’ll release it a little bit prior to that," per pool.

So nobody forgets the utter bollocks the man spouts on a daily basis: this from last year.

Not been following the seemingly futile exercise of the Senate trial, but

Today will be the final day of presentation for the House Managers. IIRC, they have about 8 hours remaining.

Then presumably, tomorrow will begin the case for the defense. I find it rather interesting that this has been conveniently timed for a Saturday, when more people will be at home to watch than during a work day. Coincidence? I think not.

On whichever day it was, Trump asserted boastfully that the water in the USA is clean.

In the same week, he has revoked legislation to check the pollution of .... water in America.

That’s going to be one hell of a legacy his (younger) child and grandchildren will have to live with. I predict a name change back to Drumpf - or maybe something less controversial and tainted (Stalin or Hitler maybe?)

I hear what they believe.

Yes.

Let's not forget her testimony.

He must be wondering where this will lead him ...

ludothedog · 25/01/2020 12:27

Why is everyone pretending that Trump didn't order a hit on Yovanovich? Yes his words could be interpreted differently but we all know what he meant and what he is capable of. There is already a wealth of evidence that this was ordered including her testimony plus the text messages, information that she was being followed, the interview given by Parnas plus she was pulled back to the US on an emergency basis by the US due to concerns about her wellbeing.

As time goes on we all know that there will be more evidence to support this. What will the GOP do then? More cognitive dissonance?

AcrossthePond55 · 25/01/2020 13:25

Why is everyone pretending that Trump didn't order a hit on Yovanovich?

I don't think 'everyone' is. It's just that his defenders gang is screaming the loudest. As usual.

The thing is, an ambassador can be recalled by a POTUS for no reason at all. They serve at the 'pleasure' of the president. He could have simply quietly recalled her and replaced her with someone 'more to his liking' and no one would really have thought a thing about it.

It all goes back to Scrotus' never wanting to do his own dirty work, even if that dirty work isn't really dirty in the illegal/unethical sense, but just unpleasant. It's been his modus operandi for decades. Let someone else take the blame. And that's because he's so very careful not to get his own fingers dirty so nothing can be pinned on him directly.

And because he's a coward.

ludothedog · 25/01/2020 14:01

News coverage seems to skip this as if they are afraid to say what we're all thinking or if they say it out loud they will be accused of catastrophising at best. But we all know what's going on here.

lionheart · 25/01/2020 14:09

It's odd, isn't it?

Law suits? A law suit that would get in the way of other proceedings somehow?

Roussette · 25/01/2020 14:12

So agree with that Across. Nothing is ever his fault. Pin the blame on someone else. I bet he's never said 'sorry' to anyone in the whole of his life.

Is there coverage of the Impeachment hearings today? If so, I wondered how many hours away? Smile

Emmelina · 25/01/2020 14:29

They’re starting earlier today @Roussette - 10am their time so 3pm UK.

Roussette · 25/01/2020 14:34

Thank you Emmelina Smile
