Boris Watch - Thread 1

chomalungma · 17/12/2019 19:11

Well, it's been done for Trump since he got elected.
No doubt some people will complain it's on AIBU - but it's a place with traffic.

So let's use this to keep an eye on the changes under Boris.

First Thing:

Boris introduces clause in the withdrawal agreement so the UK must leave with WTO rules if there is no trade agreement with the EU by the end of 2020

www.theguardian.com/business/2019/dec/17/pound-slides-to-pre-election-levels-in-wake-of-bid-to-outlaw-brexit-extension

Feel free to comment and add things that you notice changing. The Trump threads are at 97 now.

How is helena bullying?

As far as i can see she is just asking a question

Dont want to answer it...dont answer it

Peregrina · 19/12/2019 21:15

Having read the thread and the hundreds like it over the election/past 3 years ... its not about stopping Brexit its about stopping a 'no deal'. aka its not about hatred & Boris bashing its about 'holding our government to account'.
Pull the other one, it has bells on it.

Rubbish. Johnson won his mandate and most of us said that if he did we would have to accept the result.
But he doesn't have a mandate to wreck the country, which many of us that that a man who is a known liar and cheat will not be able to do much else. Most of us don't believe that Brexit will benefit the whole country, not just his rich chums. If if does, well and good, but don't you want to see the results?
Most of us are deeply sceptical that he will protect the NHS. Does it matter to you?

MaxNormal · 19/12/2019 21:15

We're having a hard Brexit more than likely, the Tories have got their majority, yet somehow the ardent Brexiteers and uncomfortable with any but the victim role. It's odd.

HeIenaDove · 19/12/2019 21:17

We have been on similiar threads @Walkingdeadfangirl fairly frequently where you have denigrated those on lower pay/tax credits etc.

So i assumed you were a high earner. If you are a high earner why did you lie on that webchat?

Peregrina · 19/12/2019 21:19

You wonder why they don't want to hold Johnson to account.
If Johnson can protect the NHS and produce 50,000 more nurses. If he can produce good quality work for people. If he can sort out the housing crisis, we will all say well and good. But at present, we haven't seen anything in the man and his Government of mediocrities that suggests that they will be able to do this. Many of us suspect that they don't even want to.

frumpety · 19/12/2019 21:27

Walkingdeadfangirl you won the referendum and you won the election , be happy and confident with your choices. If Boris does something great, post about it, if he does something bad post about it. If he does something you really disagree with , contact your MP. And if you change your mind about him, well there will be another election at some point Smile

Taswama · 19/12/2019 21:33

@HelenaDove - the need for ID to vote is proven to reduce voters from disadvantaged backgrounds. Hilary Clinton talked about it as a threat to democracy in the US in her book ‘What Happened’ .

Taswama · 19/12/2019 21:34

I see they are planning to repeal the fixed term parliament act.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 19/12/2019 21:37

@HeIenaDove If you had actually read many of my posts you would
know that the only people I might denigrate was Corbynistas, Momentum extremists, far left socialists etc I most certainly have not singled out people based on their income.

Yes I was right pissed off with Labours many uncosted policies eg to give a eye watering £58 Billion payout to many people who dont need it at the expense of people who were born one day later+ and wouldn't be able to afford to pay the cost of it.

And it pissed me off even more that John McDonnell gave a crappy non answer. But hey, Labour isn't the party of the workers so I guess he didn't care.

And dont worry its unlikely I will be on this thread for long as I know how nasty they get.

#LaboursNotListening

HeIenaDove · 19/12/2019 21:38

If you were just stating facts on the John McDonnell webchat then i apologize @Walkingdeadfangirl

Its just that the way you have posted on here in the past towards others on a low income lead me to believe that you wernt.

HeIenaDove · 19/12/2019 21:42

I havent seen any far left socialists on threads ive been on.

Alsohuman · 19/12/2019 21:47

Except those aren’t the facts on the proposed Waspi payments. I told a friend born in November 57 who stood to get around £6k. Trust me, she needs that money.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 19/12/2019 21:52

@HeIenaDove If I have posted anywhere putting someone down based on their income then I also apologise.

Over the years I have been unemployed, on MW and on average wages, never been a 'high earner'. But its all relative. I am a single parent of a child with special needs, live frugally, probably drink to much wine, but I own my own house & benefit from low mortgage rates. I voted green when I was 18 (I think), for Blair once (at least) but switched to blue with Cameron and stayed there ever since. Have lived in 3 out of 4 parts of the UK. Consider myself centre right now. Any more details you want?

HeIenaDove · 19/12/2019 21:55

@Walkingdeadfangirl. Im sorry that the WASPI women have been collateral damage.

Alsohuman · 19/12/2019 21:59

Don’t worry about us, Helena, we all knew that money was pie in the sky.

YappityYapYap · 19/12/2019 22:04

We're not leaving the EU, it's a myth. It was thought up by the Tories to get the working class on side and stay in power FOREVER. That's my take on it 😎

Peregrina · 19/12/2019 22:05

Fine Walkingdeadfangirl - you voted for this crowd, so be satisfied.

I am a WASPI woman, and I wouldn't have said no to the extra, but I am well aware that there are others significantly worse off than I am.
Thankfully, I didn't vote for the shower of shits that are now in Government.

Thelnebriati · 19/12/2019 22:15

Not sure if this has already been posted;

In a breach of GDPR, the Tories remove disability and health data consent rights on their first day.
mrfrankzola.wordpress.com/2019/12/17/data-consent-rights-removed/

Lepetitpiggy · 19/12/2019 22:16

So my daughter's Tory in laws were crowing tonight (Poor girl was frantically texting me to stay sane) about the nhs. They were telling her it is completely safe as is now law that it can't ever be sold off. Is this actually a fact?? I have read and followed as much as I can but can't quite get my head around it...

UrsulaPandress · 19/12/2019 22:19

I was born in 1959 and stood to get £5000. Wound gave been nice

UrsulaPandress · 19/12/2019 22:21

Autocorrect hates me.

Alsohuman · 19/12/2019 22:21

It would have been nice but it was always a fantasy. I was born in 53 and it would have been £22k.

longtimelurkerhelen · 19/12/2019 22:31

@Thelnebriati Yes I posted about this earlier in the thread, only took them 10 days to change it back. I don't understand how they are legally allowed to do this, the ICO have already informed them that they are breaching GDPR.

longtimelurkerhelen · 19/12/2019 22:35

@Lepetitpiggy No it's not a fact. Apart from the fact that it has already been sold off in parts, they can make laws and also repeal them, so it is just a symbolic gesture to reassure numpties.

They didn't need to make this a law, they can allocate spending however they choose. It means nothing.
