'You are a great friend and a smashing wife.'

Is it just me?

I think that is a lovely verse in your anniversary card, Soapbox. I think it is lovely to think of your other half as your best friend personally.

Aloha!

Berries - I found it on the web!

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/08/2007 10:26

um... dh's message was Dearest ..... Happy Anniversary !
C'est douze ans ! (no idea why in French !) all my love ....xxxxx
Mine to him said Happy Anniversary.... much love as always....xxxx
ds wrote 'Happiness to both of you on this day
There is dismay because today is your best anniversary of the year !!!! - am not sure about the dismay bit but it's very sweet.

fuzzywuzzy · 23/08/2007 10:26

I'd need to lie down for a week if mine even remembered our anniversary......the thought of him putting anything more in the card than 'from X' ...well frankly as it will never happen I cant think how far off the edge it would push me

Berrie · 23/08/2007 10:28

French! How romantic

soapbox and berrie - I'd say dh was my best friend, and me his - nothing wrong with that. I'd be very shocked if he wrote anything more romantic or slushy than he usua;lly does - would be out of character but I know he means what he writes !

onlyjoking9329 · 23/08/2007 10:32

you were lucky to get a card, i got a card with some very lovely words in, that i will keep in a very safe place.

fatslag · 23/08/2007 10:50

It's all about blokespeak - you need to translate. Have you noticed that "Oh God, I've got flu" actually means "I've got a slight cold so I need to be mothered".

mm22bys · 23/08/2007 14:07

For our tenth wedding anniversary, DH got me a card that said on the front "To my darling husband..."

This was actually the second card he bought me - he left the first on the floor and DS got into it before he even had a chance to write in it.

I tried really hard to not take it too personally....the eternity ring never materialised either...

mm22bys · 23/08/2007 14:12

God I sound bitter! I'm not really.....

We did have a lovely dinner in a French restaurant...so it wasn't all bad (we wanted to go away for a couple of days but hard with a two DSs, the youngest was only about 6 weeks old so he put those plans to bed for a while....

bran · 23/08/2007 14:18

Thread hijack for mm22bys - ds has been accepted into the Montessori school so he will be going there from January. I wanted to tell you when I saw you at nursery on Tuesday, but I haven't told them yet.

florencemum · 23/08/2007 14:23

if he would have used 'best friend' maybe you'd be less dissapointed, however, what do you want you husband to think of you other than that you are his 'friend' and that he thinks you are 'sexy'?
he's a bloke, he wouldn't mean it if he wrote mushy words about love and beauty

OrmIrian · 23/08/2007 14:28

I think I see what you mean berrie. Not particularly romantic but then again I don't think that marriage is romantic first and foremost. DH does the whole gushy thing and I feel really uncomfortable as I couldn't do the same for him much as I love him.

I think your DH's message was probably heartfelt and genuine.

emj23 · 23/08/2007 14:28

I got a card from DP that said 'To the most beautiful angle in the world'. Bless him and his spelling.

Smashing is a bit of a old-fashioned word I suppose, but I'm sure he meant it in a lovely way, and him calling you a friend is sweet really.

Berrie · 23/08/2007 14:32

poor mm!

Berrie · 23/08/2007 14:32

That's funny emj!

OP posts:
Berrie · 23/08/2007 14:34

But he didn't say I was sexy Florence and as long as it wasn't silly and flowery I coud handle him telling me how much he loved me and how beautiful I am ...he always used to ...

mixedmama · 23/08/2007 16:55

Havent read all th posts but just wanted to say that i think that is a great message.

I think saying you are a great friend is the ultimate compliment and a smashing wife.

Anything lovey doovey and over the top would just make me laugh.

That is cleaarly from the heart.

mazzystar · 23/08/2007 16:56

morningpaper · 23/08/2007 16:57

MuffinMclay · 23/08/2007 17:17

Don't think I've ever had an anniversary card (or sent one).
