to find most sleb environmental campaigners annoying and patronising hypocrites?

There was a story on the BBC breakfast showB this morning about a sleb who is an environmental campaigner. I have no idea who she is, but am I the only one who finds most people like her somewhat annoying, patronising and hypocritical?

She openly admits to flying "for her job", but she "offsets" her carbon emissions. Aren't carbon offsets kind of like drinking diet coke, but still scoffing down cake?

Even so, she is on a campgain to "save the world" by encouraging people to only boil enough water for the exact no of cups of coffee we're going to drink, and turn off lights when we're out.

Why on earth should I listen to her, what authority does she have?

(Sorry if this has been done to death elsewhere!)

madamez · 22/08/2007 15:19

Fathers4Justice is an organisation set up by a bunch of male bullies whose tactics have been attempts to intimidate their ex partners even more (several of the organisers have convictions for stalking and domestic violence). There are good reasons why some men are only allowed restricted access to their own children. And all F4Js campaign stunts have been about incoinveniencing, damaging, messing up etc - not exactly the sort of behaivour that encourages you to think, hmm, what a lovely caring sensible person to leave my child with.

aloha · 22/08/2007 15:19

Oh YES! I so agree.

It was that twonk from Blur (the one who lives on a massive farm with his triplets Lancelot, Carbon-Offset and Daisy-Larkspur) saying that to save energy we should be like him, and close off part of our house in winter to save on fuel bills
Or Sting who has hundreds of houses each a long plane journey away from each other and tours the world with tons and tons of electrical equipment etc.
Or even Al Gore in his mansion.
It's the way they think they lead by example that makes me go off POP!
I've just remembered, Richard Branson's spoilt teenage son lecturing ME from the pages of ES mag about energy consumption. Your dad runs a fricking airline, you NUMPTY! You spend half your fricking life flying to his carribbean island on a PLANE.

aloha · 22/08/2007 15:22

Actually, he said we should live in the North facing part of our house in summer (to save on air con) and in the south facing rooms in winter. HE has no fricking CLUE does he?? TWONK.
He hasn't been a millionaire all hsi life either. Yet he has clearly undergone some kind of Bourne-type memory wiping exercise.
I think I'll just close up the kitchen and ds's bedroom for the winter, eh?

Sheherazadethegoat · 22/08/2007 15:22

prince charles really gets my goat (ahem) sure he gets the train occassionally but it is his own blardy private train!

surely the award for sanctemonious top twattage goes to him?

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 15:22

Or Bono/Bonio 'Everyone should alter their lives for the environment but not me because people expect me to live flamboyantly because I'm a rock star'.

[rolls eyes]

aloha · 22/08/2007 15:24

Yes, go and live in an eco-friendly two bed, you spoilt idiot!
Actually I don't care in they live in Saddam Hussein-style gold-plated, 1000 room mansions and leave the lights on all night.
If I won the Euro-lottery I'd have an eight bedroom house in the country. But just stop lecturing people who living in little terraced houses and have a carbon pinprick compared to you.

(applies cold compress, takes diazepam)

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 15:25

Nah, I don't think Charles can go for top prize - he doesn't bring lawsuits in Scottish courts to stop ramblers 'trespessing' on Balmoral like cow-face Ann Gloag and twat Euan Snowie.

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 15:26

Trespassing.

Sorry, I'm spitting nails at these hypocrite 'slebs'.

suzycreamcheese · 22/08/2007 15:27

aloha · 22/08/2007 15:28

Alex James! Yes, that's the prize twat. And omg that STUPID flat cap thing....oooh, come the revolution... (foam, foam)

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 15:31

Surely Chris(t) Martin is a top candidate for prize celebrity hypocritical twattage, I'd have thought.

aloha · 22/08/2007 15:32

Oh yes, with his massive fricking people carrier!

They really think we are stupid dim scum, don't they.

aloha · 22/08/2007 15:32

Can we use them as an alternative, green, fuel-source? Or fertiliser or something? At least that would be useful.

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 15:34

Or public transport?!

suzycreamcheese · 22/08/2007 15:36

yes, alex james, the very name starts ire to rise...
its a dull boring ramble of a column too...

i wish they would include short resume of column writers arrogance to assume we know who all their friends are...

suzycreamcheese · 22/08/2007 15:40

oh expat what a wonderful idea...

chris martin .. doing the route of the local park n ride with gywnnie moses apple in the back for the day out!

..putting his car where his mouth is!..if only..

LoveAngel · 22/08/2007 15:41

Gwynnie Paltrow - what a sanctimonious byatch.
Madonna - I liked her much better when she was a good, old fashioned, honest slaggypants.
Lady Mucca - beyind irritating when she starts banging on about animal welfare.

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 15:42

Gwennie could save lots of oxygen by not opening her simpering mouth to whinge so much. She already does a pretty good job of looking smug just by standing up.
