to find most sleb environmental campaigners annoying and patronising hypocrites?

There was a story on the BBC breakfast showB this morning about a sleb who is an environmental campaigner. I have no idea who she is, but am I the only one who finds most people like her somewhat annoying, patronising and hypocritical?

She openly admits to flying "for her job", but she "offsets" her carbon emissions. Aren't carbon offsets kind of like drinking diet coke, but still scoffing down cake?

Even so, she is on a campgain to "save the world" by encouraging people to only boil enough water for the exact no of cups of coffee we're going to drink, and turn off lights when we're out.

Why on earth should I listen to her, what authority does she have?

(Sorry if this has been done to death elsewhere!)

I'll give him a teaspoon made from a renewable source of bamboo to use as a shovel, goat.

It was various things. her pr kept having to 'help' her because she had no idea what she was talking about. I can't say more - might be identified!

Sheherazadethegoat · 22/08/2007 16:18

and you didn't slap her? were you sedated?

"Why do I want to do this?" said 22-year-old Sam Branson. "Well my Dad asked if I wanted to come along with Will a couple of months ago and I jumped at the opportunity."

With Hollywood good looks and an inherited smile, he has also an inherited responsibility.

"I need to experience the Arctic firsthand and the effects it's having," Sam Branson said. "You know that global warming is having on the environment and learn a bit about the culture up here."

What a great big numpty arse he is. How did he get to the Artic? By bike?

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 16:23

The culture of the Arctic.

PMSL.

Rhubarb · 22/08/2007 16:26

Clooney's campaigning for summat isn't he? I agree with whatever he says so long as he shags me.
Forever.

aloha · 22/08/2007 16:27

Yah, you know, like nightclubs and stuff.

Rhubarb · 22/08/2007 16:27

Clooney said that did he?

SueBaroo · 22/08/2007 16:28

I'll have you know there's a fine art to making snowballs.

How about Branson sets it up as a new tourist destination, so people can 'see for themselves'. Prick.

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 16:28

He sounds so profound.

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 16:29

He's probably writing a book about this life-changing experience.

It will be an instant bestseller, write up there with Jade's and Jordan's autobiographies.

aloha · 22/08/2007 16:30

Sorry x-posted, just imagining Sam branson's idea of "Arctic culture"

Did I mention that I think he's an arse?

aloha · 22/08/2007 16:31

"I need to experience the Arctic first hand" - no you don't you idiot!

Rhubarb · 22/08/2007 16:32
expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 16:35

Considering he probably hasn't got the ability to understand concepts that are not immediately tangible to his senses, he probably did need to go to the Artic a) to understand that it exists b) that is it devoid of culture in the 'yah' sense of the word. Whether or not he was able to become aware that many of Branson's business actitivities have likely contributed to its diminshment, however, is a concept that will probably prove impossible for him to take on board.

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 16:38

Erm, Rhu, it wasn't Clooney who felt he need to go there - he probably realised there are no liquor stores there so there was no way he'd chose it as a travel destination.

It was Sam Branson.

Rhubarb · 22/08/2007 16:41

I know, I just started thinking about Clooney that's all.

Ignore me, I'm fantasising.

Now then, where was I? Oh yes, Clooney's willy!

aloha · 22/08/2007 16:43

I don't mind them so much when they lecture big business, it's telling ME to turn my lights off that makes me want to punch their lights out.
Actually, anyone who makes Hollywood blockbusters hasn't a leg to stand on re energy use anyway.

speedymama · 22/08/2007 16:43

Cloony is campaigning for Darfur. Respect.

aloha · 22/08/2007 16:44

I know what Rhuby thinks George Clooney should be doing with his energy.

Whizzz · 22/08/2007 16:44

oooo did someone mention George ???

expatinscotland · 22/08/2007 16:44

But you see, they never pontificate about the evils of big business. Because they know which side their bread is buttered on.

Rhubarb · 22/08/2007 16:51

I'm sorry but if it was with George I'd want the lights well and truly turned ON!

Phwoooar! He can float my iceberg anytime!

speedymama · 22/08/2007 17:06

What is it about George Cloony?
I just luuuuuurrrve the man! He is sooooooo scrumptious
