Seen lots of mentions on here of people saying they clean bathrooms/kitchens every day and hoover all the floors. Several people saying that they don’t have time to go out because they are busy keeping the house clean after work etc.
I’m feeling like a right mucky cow now! I wipe the kitchen down after I’ve cooked and put a bit of bleach in the loos each morning but the rest gets done once a week (usually!)
DH hoovers once a week while I’m out with my friend and we go out most nights as we run choirs/drama groups.
Am in in the minority here?

Never. I have a cleaner once a week for 3 hours. Apart from that I just tidy and wipe up any horrible messes between cleans. Also I do wipe down the counters after cooking.

Newmumma83 · 29/11/2019 22:04

I am sure you are not ... I hoover every day More than once a day but I have a one year old who’s sole mission in life is to find things to eat off the floor ...
Mop 2 or more times a week in kitchen for above reason ... ( my baby has actually face planted the floor to lick some thing off it 🤷‍♀️)

I wipe down kitchen sides / surfaces 2-4 times possibly more really depending on use/ food prep as I have two cats that will now jump on to any higher surface to escape said 1 year old

I too just chuck bleach down the loos daily and full clean weeks

Pre baby my routine was more similar to yours

Newmumma83 · 29/11/2019 22:04

My mum is an every day after every bath / shower person though her house is immaculate I confess I panic clean before she comes round

Salene · 29/11/2019 22:05

Tidy, wipe down daily - bathrooms / kitchen . Hoover downstairs every night , wooden floors and two young kids

Proper clean weekly , hoover stairs / upstairs weekly

stripeypillowcase · 29/11/2019 22:07

proper clean, like behind sofa, about 3x a year before mil comes for a visit
wipe kitchen surfaces and hoover kitchen every evening (to keep mice away)
general hoover & clean about once a week.

JaceLancs · 29/11/2019 22:08

Change beds n towels once a week
DD cleans for me every 2-4 weeks depending on her schedule
I keep on top of bathrooms and kitchen in between but as we are out at work all day it never gets that bad
I hate cleaning but am very tidy which helps

bridgetreilly · 29/11/2019 22:21

Once a week. Unless I'm busy or away at the weekend, in which case, most things have to wait for a fortnight.

DuesToTheDirt · 29/11/2019 22:24

Once every couple of weeks....

Ifonly86 · 29/11/2019 22:28

Whole house every evening, doesn’t take very long but I love waking up to a clean house and as it’s my job I enjoy it. Kitchen worktops should be at least once per day and toilets, handles, switches etc more often than once a week. As a full time cleaner some of the homes I have to ‘deal’ with are shocking. The majority of my regulars never clean between my visits so I have to wipe up 1/2 week old crumbs on worktops etc I couldn’t live like that personally. We all have busy lives but it takes minutes to wipe down a kitchen. Your routine is fine, each home is different so what may be too long for one is too soon for another etc, as long as it looks ok and you’re happy with it don’t worry about what others do

Seeingadistance · 29/11/2019 22:29

Rarely.

CherryPavlova · 29/11/2019 22:29

Kitchen surfaces daily.
Showers daily
Lavatories daily check.
Hoover of messy from dog.
Wash kitchen floor if it looks grubby.
Otherwise cleaners twice a week do most things.

rararaspberry · 29/11/2019 22:29

Once a week if that. We both work full time, cant quite afford a cleaner as have 2 young children in child care. DP also has a 2nd job that takes up evenings. I quite often have a lot of work to do in the evenings. If I was to clean thoroughly every day I would be in bed late (and getting up with a toddler at 5) and would have no down time at all in a day. Everyone has different priorities, mine is getting some enjoyment out of life and not worrying about a few dusty corners.

bridgetreilly · 29/11/2019 22:31

I do also wipe down the kitchen surfaces most days. That's the thing I notice makes most difference to how clean the house feels, for some reason.

Mayflower01 · 29/11/2019 22:31

Once a week the full whack, Hoover upstairs and downstairs (though downstairs gets hoovered every couple of days) scrub bathroom/ kitchen sinks with dettol/ vikal. Bleach and anti bac the toilets, empty all the bins, clean kitchen hob/ surfaces etc.

You’d think with just 2 of us living here it wouldn’t get that dirty in a week...but 7 days in it’s rank!

QuietCrotchgoblins · 29/11/2019 22:32

Unless you have loads of pets or are trampling dirt in, hoovering and mopping daily seems madness to me. Weekly ( if that) Hoover and mop here, thorough clean of bathroom. Daily kitchen wipe down and dishwasher run. Life is short, don't waste it cleaning a clean house!!

hopeishere · 29/11/2019 22:33

I do the bare minimum and have a cleaner for three hours a week.

stripeypillowcase · 29/11/2019 22:33

it helps not to wear glasses as much at home Grin

Supersimkin2 · 29/11/2019 22:40

Me and the kitten. Loo and kitchen sink cleaned daily, Robovac every other day (kitten chases it), clean sheets once a week, sofa throws every couple of weeks. Wet dust every week or so, floors scrubbed as required.

Windows open all the time, my only neurosis is homes that smell of people not nice things like coffee and clean washing.

Clothes on clean every day so lots of washing, handily. I volunteer in a charity shop sorting the donations & don't fancy bringing musty smells and moth in on clothes, otherwise I wouldn't bother. People generally clean too much.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/11/2019 22:44

Kitchen surfaces daily
Bathroom sink/loo three times a week, full bathroom clean once a week
Hoover/mop weekly
Floors swept every couple of days (v hairy cat)
Towels washed weekly
Bed changed weekly, spare bed only if DP has slept in there (he’s a snorer!)
Dusting/polishing about once a fortnight, more often in the summer when the sun streams in and shows up cat hair.

OpheliaBee · 29/11/2019 22:47

Probably hoover and shove some bleach in the loo 2-3 times per week. Dusting is done weekly. Kitchen gets wiped down every time we cook. Sinks, and the bath are deep cleaned once per week and rinsed as and when they need doing. The rabbit’s litter tray is emptied daily or every other day with a big clean and hoover up of her cage once per week. We probably do 15-20 minutes of odd jobs each per evening? Including tidying but not laundry which is a bit more of an undertaking as we use cloth nappies but even then is no more than 45 minutes of hanging, organising, stuffing Etc. Every couple of days.

OpheliaBee · 29/11/2019 22:48

(Helps to live in a tiny house with an incredibly organised and efficient husband)

AnneElliott · 29/11/2019 22:49

My cleaner comes once a week and does the kitchen and bathrooms. I hoover once a week but sweep the wooden floor twice a day.

Wannabegreenfingers · 29/11/2019 22:51

Full clean once a week. Kitchen wiped after cooking, beds and towels weekly. I move the furniture once in a blue moon. Daily is bonkers....

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 29/11/2019 22:56

God I feel like a right slob on this thread!

I leave the kitchen straight every night, hoover downstairs maybe twice a week, the bathroom gets a quick once over weekly and a proper clean monthly.

I dust when I can see the dust! I tidy when the mess bugs me.

I'm a single parent and work full time, there's not enough hours or energy left to do any more!!

Lamentations · 29/11/2019 22:57

Once every couple of weeks I drop a baby wipe on the kitchen floor and drag it around with my foot.

Reading this thread, I'm probably not getting away with it as much as I thought.
